Late flight home, what to do?

It looks like the most reasonably priced flight home after our cruise isn't until 7:25pm. Any suggestions on where to rent a car at the port that can be returned at MCO? Should we go to DTD
And maybe some monorail hopping? Or Kennedy Space Center? My girls will be 5 and 8 when we go and we'll also be with my inlaws.

We are going to spend the day at the airport Hyatt. They have day rooms you can book & then spend the day by the pool, resting, or just watching tv til the flight.

This. Take the DCL bus back to MCO, so you can through-check your bags from your stateroom all the way back to your home airport (assuming you're on a participating airline to a US destination), then get a day room at the MCO Hyatt. This also allows you to stay up late the last night of the cruise even though you have to get up early, since you can take a nap as soon as you get to the airport.

We are renting a car at the port and we are having lunch at WCC and then spending the day enjoying the monorail resorts. Taking boats, shopping, riding the monorail, maybe get to take hula lessons at the Poly.
Kennedy is awesome. We took my kids when they were 8 & 7. We could have spent tons more time there.
I am not a fan of DTD but you could certainly go bowling.

It is very easy to rent a car at port and return it to MCO with all rental car agencies available there. We rented a car one year and spent the day at the Kennedy Space Center. It was very cool. The other year we went to check out Cocoa Beach.

We are in the same situation on 7/4. I have a rental a car booked and we're planning to go to DTD for the day. Our flight doesn't leave until 8 pm. DS is excited to go to the Lego store. I'm just worried about all the construction and parking I've been reading about. I'm not familiar enough with DTD and am having trouble coming up with a plan.

My brother lives in Orlando so he is going to pick us up from MCO when we take the DCL shuttle back and spend the day at a Universal since my boys both love it there!

If you think you have time, Harry Potter!!! Your girls will be blown away by it if they are fans. That is $$$ of course; DTD/monorail/transportation boats could be a lot of fun and much less expensive.

We booked a day room at the Hyatt and it worked out great. We had lunch, spent some time shopping and then hung out in the pool. It was really nice to be able to take a shower and get cleaned up before the flight back to the west coast. I would definitely go that route again if we have a later flight.

Flying back to the west coast we always have a 6 or 7 pm flight back. We've done DTD for the day, WDW for a few hours, just doing tourist things. But really the best thing is getting the $99 day room at the MCO Hyatt. Because honestly we are pretty tired when the cruise is over, so the no stress relaxing hotel with a pool inside the airport works for us.

Last year we rented a car and drove to EPCOT- we were there by 9:30. We spent the day there- our flight was at 8:00pm. We rented from National and dropped it at MCO- It only cost $65.

Same situation and I have chosen to do the day room at the Hyatt. But I think it depends on your family's own stamina level. If my husband and I were traveling solo, we would probably go explore and hit some type of tourist attraction. But I know my kids and after being on vacation and off schedule with the sad news of going home, less is more. I know it costs about $100 for the room but we can relax and swim and repack and digest everything we have taken in. If you think your family would enjoy some time at an attraction or DTD then go for it. You can always wait until that day to decide.....

We have decided to do the day room at the Hyatt too. Glad to hear that others have had a good experience doing this!
