Wine and Dine 2015

Well that was fun. Great story here guys - I FINALLY got through to rundisney on the phone after they hung up on me a ton of times. I finally went through the event info option and got someone. Who put me on hold and checked with his supervisor. Then he came back, admitted there were errors with the website and he didn't know why I got that, that it was their fault, but that I am not registered. Sorry, better luck next time. End of conversation. I was beyond shocked. I mean that's not Disney customer service, I get better customer service at Wendys. At this point I was really ticked off so I calmly told him they really need to figure out a new way to do this because via active is very clearly not working, thank you, goodbye. *slams down phone

I then called back my new bff I made today at Active.com, who gave me some fun info. He is more of a customer relations guys on the race client end as best I can understand, but they got slammed today with the error and I happened to get transferred to him. He said they opened 2000 spots - except wait no - someone loaded it as 20 (yes, TWENTY) spots at first. (So, maybe I ended up submitting in the midst of them correcting that??) He said it threw off the system and it had to recover. I took a photo of the website when it said I was already registered and could not register again and he told me to email rundisney and send them that. He also asked me to email him later this week when they respond and he recorded my wait time for when I called rundisney to try and figure it out, as well as who I spoke to over there? I didn't know why but I was sure angry so I said sure ok here ya go!

So after all of that, he said he can't add me on the back end because rundisney closes them out when the number is reached. But, he did tell me they are scheduled to release 18,000 spots on the 17th.
Pretty much standard for RunDisney! They know that REGARDLESS of what they do they will sell out so upsetting a customer doesn't bother them in the least. It's clearly one of the most arrogant sections of Disney having had to deal with them a few times. As long as they can sell out races in under an hour, why should they change?

@Keels Thanks for the link!! It saved me during Dumbo registration since it went active a few minutes early! Hoping for the same with W&D. Looks like we will be attending both events! Hopefully we can meet up!!

So about 20,000 runners for W&D,2,000 early registrations and 18,000 on the 17th,that's 5-6,000 more than any other year,am I correct? If that's correct its going to be pretty tight for the first couple of miles.I'm fine with it as long as registration stays open for at least several hours on the 17th so I can get my friends in.

For the early registration that filled up yesterday, was that just for the 1/2 marathon or did that include registrations for the 5K as well?

Yes!!!! How fun!!

There were slots for the 5K that filled up, as well. I don't know if the numbers that are out there (2000 released yesterday, 18,000 more coming on the 17th) include the 5K slots or are just 1/2 slots, but there were early registration spots for that race that filled. (Not as fast, but relatively quickly--in under an hour, definitely.)

In general when I deal with Active if I get an error I immediately just retry until I get a success or a valid entry. I can always have my credit card company charge back duplicate transactions. But yes its a very frustrating site, and as someone who works in that field there are better ways of running a site like that and coding for race registration. But the core of the problem is simply that demand is so high and supply is so low. Years ago you had MONTHS to get into a runDisney race (back before it was called runDisney).

Yeah, that was what I attempted to do after it seemed off the first time. And I started early enough I should have been able to still get in, but the registration form wouldn't let me. I submitted a couple of times and it just kept telling me error, you are already registered. I sent an email this morning attaching the screenshot of said error to the rundisney supervisor like I was instructed by the agent. Honestly, they are probably just going to tell me better luck next time (again). But I felt like they handled me so rudely that I at least feel better complaining to someone higher up!

The plot thickens...someone from rundisney just called me. He said that they are going through their records and this same thing happened to multiple people, but less than 100. He said he is hopeful that there is just a problem on the back end of the website and the registrations actually will go through in a day or two...I told him they should make an exception since it is clearly an error on either them or active and it is so few people, and further explained to him I took a photo of the page telling me I was already registered and he gave me an email address for his superior and told me to send it to them because he believes they should make the exception but he doesn't have clearance. He said he asked them, and was told to just start focusing on the 17th.
Good grief! I'm sorry the glitch got you :( It happened to a few folks I know, too. Fingers crossed they either make the exception, or everything goes smoothly for you on the 17th!

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing - so much for W&D being a the smaller, less-packed race. I imagine they felt they could bump it up to accommodate the overflow from no TOT.

Oh man guys - the craziest thing just happened. They sent me a special link and password to register and told me they were making an exception! I honestly sent that email with the intent to vent my frustration at how poorly registration always goes, I truthfully didn't think they'd budge. It must have been because I had the photo. So glad I took that!

:yay::butterfly:rainbow::tongue::worship: This is me right now!

Thanks so much for everyone talking me off a ledge! Before I closed that page I seriously scoured my confirmation email and used the link @Keels posted just to make sure I showed up! Rundisney registration has to be at least as hard and stressful as the actual race.

...and I took another photo of the confirmation page. Because why risk it?? lol

Yay!!! So happy they did the right thing!!

I wonder if would have just kept trying I would have been registered while the correction from 20 to 2000 was being made. I was shocked that it was full in just five minutes.

Go ahead and post the special link and password. I won't share with anyone :lmao: :lmao:

I am surprised the AP went so fast. Now I will have to plan to be off for the general sign up. Cough cough :rotfl2:

I don't think the wine and dine host resorts have been announced yet. Because PHM was much larger all resorts were host resorts, but for wine and dine it is usually more like 2-3 choices per resort category I believe. But, Caribbean was a host resort in 2013 because I stayed. It is going to be the same set up, the run event buses will stop at all of the internal stops to pick up runners. I am waiting just because I'd hate to book a hotel and then find out it does not have the early AM busses. I'd think Caribbean beach and one of the boardwalk area resorts are likely to be included though. So you could at least walk across the boardwalk to one of them!
Thanks...turns out akl not on the list
