CSR, would it really be a HUGE step down from a Deluxe?

I really, really want to make myself book a Deluxe, specifically an MK Deluxe (though also considering BWI, we love Epcot resorts and don't want to do BC/YC this time) because we've never stayed at one...but the price of the CSR right now (booking through Amex), even for Business Club, is very appealing. And I've read some great things from people on this board about it but then I've read some things from others where it sounds far less appealing.

We CAN book a Deluxe from a money standpoint and rates are decent for when we want to go. But, we spend very little time at the resort, maybe one half day's worth of pool time, and I don't know if the convenience of a MK resort trumps money savings...Oh and I've heard the rooms at WL are small so that is not among our considerations for a MK hotel, we don't spend a lot of time there but we are 4 people and like a little space when we are.

In my opinion, no. I'm a huge fan of CSR and refer to it as Disney's "deluxe mod" because the furnishings and decor would fit easily into a deluxe resort. A lot of people don't like the resort as a whole because of its large size, but that doesn't bother me. My favorite section is actually Ranchos, which is the farthest one can get from El Centro, but the landscaping is beautiful and makes for a nice 8 or so minute walk.

For me, accommodations aren't what make a deluxe a deluxe. For me, it's all about location. I want be able to walk to at least one park, or at the very least not have to hop onto a bus for everything. CSR is a beautiful resort, but is landlocked and too remote for my tastes.

I really think the deluxe resorts are worth the extra money from a proximity and amenity standpoint. When staying in either location (MK & EC) you have a lot of flexibility as far as Disney Transportation. I always suggest that you choose your resort area based on your preference of parks.

IMO it is worth the additional money.

JMO We find that the biggest difference you get with deluxe is Location, indoor hallways, balconies, additional transportation. Years ago there was so many more reasons to do Deluxe over Mods, but (for us) not nowadays. We will only do deluxe now, if we want to splurge, because we do not think its worth the extra $200-$400 per night difference, especially if you are not taking advantage of the extras.

We have stayed almost everywhere. Over Christmas we stayed at CSR and were happy with the accommodations. We were most happy that we were able to get free dining though. Yes, it is different from a Deluxe but with the huge savings in the room price I think that you will be fine. I would suggest that you pay the extra to get a preferred location. That makes the resort seem smaller. We did not like the theming. It was fine, just not what we like. I would stay at CSR without hesitation.

Not in the least!! a pp put it plain and simple... We also like to call it a DELUXE-Lite.... w/out Deluxe $$

Out of all the mods, this is the best IMHO of all.

From the decor/theming, to the food choices, ( whether that be TS, or QS , orwalk up window, to the lounge, to one of the BEST Main Pools on all WDW property...Opening ceremony is cool too:thumbsup2 The grounds are absolutely gorgeous * Especially at night..... It also has the Largest hot tub on property, and the best of all....Bus SERVICE out of ANY resort, including deluxes.....

I'd say...Do it..Do it..:rotfl:

We loved CSR!! We have stayed at Wilderness Lodge for several years straight and were hesitant but stayed at CSR for the first time last year. We loved it and booked it again for this year. We stayed business class so the location was great and it was nice to get a quick breakfast in the morning before the parks. The beer/wine/sangria in the evening were perfect as well! We spend most of our time at the parks as well so the quick breakfasts/coffee and bus stop location was excellent for us. We're not huge pool people but CSR's pool is our kids' favorite!

I've stayed at many deluxe resorts, three values resorts and one moderate, and of course I like the deluxe resorts the best. That being said, it is difficult for me to justify staying at a deluxe resort on trips where I plan to spend a lot of time in the parks. This coming spring break, we are staying at CSR and are really looking forward to it. I hear the pool is super nice, so my girls are interested in that!

I love the theme, seems tropical and vacation like to me. I loved our room in the business class (concierge lite) building too. Cost a little more than standard view but was worth it. And the bus service is always great.

To me CSR doesn't even come close to being a deluxe. The rooms really need refurbishment. On site, there is something missing. The lobby is boring. Pepper market food was not good. Besides the fact that it's really big, the layout could be better. I keep reading that the bus service is better than anywhere else but the two times we stayed there we did not think it was different from other moderates.

If a moderate had to be "close from Deluxe" it would be Port Orleans. The rooms are the best, the lobby is classy, the quiet pools are better looking than any other moderate. Cutest foodcourt. They have a boat going to Downtown Disney which is a plus.

I stay at all different levels of resort, based on my needs for any particular trip. You can't think of the resorts as a "step up" or a "step down". Each resort fulfills a specific need. If you are planning to just sleep and shower in the room, a lot of folks would say to book a value and use the savings for other things on the trip.

Only you know what is important to you when you travel. If room size is important, then you want to book a resort with large rooms. I have stayed at CR in some of the largest rooms on property, and I have stayed at WL. Yes, there is a noticeable difference in room size, but most of the time when I'm at WL, it's on solo trips so the room size isn't as much of an issue. I will be at POFQ later this month, in a party of three, but we will be out in the parks and only in the room to sleep and shower, so the room size to us is OK compared to what we are saving during peak season over a deluxe. Each trip has it's own set of variables, from which parks you plan to spend the most time in, to how many high end meals you plan to eat, to whether you have plans for tours or renting boats, or other recreational activities. Sometimes it's all about the room, or the resort location, and sometimes it's about saving money on the room to spend elsewhere (even on another Disney trip).

Since your budget will accommodate the deluxe as well as the moderate, you just have to decide where you want to spend the money - on the room or on other things. There's not a right or wrong answer, but one will work better for you than the other.

Lets see... Disney Deluxe do great service, oh wait maybe not?
Disney Deluxe have efficient valet parking? (Does 45 minutes to get my car count as efficient?
Disney Deluxe rooms are cleaned and well maintained (Does the fact that I could write "Dust me" on the furniture and that stayed there for two days count as "clean and well maintained"?
Disney Deluxe hotels have the BEST transport (I mean I only stopped at four resorts before we got to mine and the bus was so full on pick up I had to stand but it's great right?

LOL!

I guess if you like the theme and interior corridors it's worth it, but....
