Hi all….I'm still fairly new to this DVC stuff so I wanted to make sure I'm doing things right. My extended family is going to Disney World from Nov 11-18/15. Ideally would love to stay at the Poly in 4 studios. If not available we are happy to stay at home resort Saratoga Springs in 2-2 bedrooms. My use year is August. Currently have 200 2014 points available still. Planning to use 520 points on Poly reservation or 524 points on SSR. Just wondering if I should book SSR now just in case and then cancel while trying to get poly reservation. Or is that not really necessary for SSR at that time and I should just wait until 7 month window and book SSR only if Poly isn't available. Just wondering what would happen to those 4 points if we did get POLY. And there is no need to bank 2014 points right because we will be using them before they expire, correct? Now as I type this I'm wondering if the 2016 points will even be available to use since technically I'm still in 2014 use year when I need to book? Wow this is confusing! Any help is appreciated!

for an aug UY for a Nov 2015 stay, you would be traveling in your 2015 UY.
(when you call to book has nothing to do with UY.)
if you are traveling in your 2015 UY, you can use banked 2014 UY pts (you can bank them now online) + current 2015 UY pts + borrowed 2016 UY pts (if you need them).
if you book SSR and switch to poly, it should free up 4 pts from your 2015 UY that can be banked into your 2016 UY.
it's a 50/50 call IMO whether to book SSR first and try to switch to the poly. it's getting into a busy period for DVC bookings but i would personally just try to book the poly and hope SSR would still be there if the poly is full.

I agree it's 50/50. I'd lean towards calling at 9am. What if you only book 2 studios? Would that be ok?
Thanks for the help…so I should bank those 2014 points now….good to know it is based on when you travel….I'll get this straight soon I hope!
we've got a total of 14 people going so the least we could do is 3 studios….but that may be an option if 4 aren't available!

The max for a studio is 4 so 3 studios would only accommodate up to 12.
(I guess they allow 5 at the Poly but I can't imagine being that cramped)

1) they have to be banked by the end of March if you are going to use them in your 2015 UY
2) once you bank or borrow pts, that decision can never be undone.
My point was what if you were only able to book 2 Poly rooms online at 8am and ended up losing one or both of your SSR 2bedrooms. You're going at the tail end of F&W. There is a risk. That's why I would vote to call in and let the CM know you want 3 or 4 Poly rooms before canceling the 2-2bedrooms.

As to booking SSR in advance, likely not necessary. In 2012, 2013, and 2014, SSR 2BRs were avaialble at 7 months out for that time in Nov (and for at least several days beyond seven months out). In fact the only two dates I have seen SSR disappear before 7 months out in any year are New Year's Eve and the Friday in Nov (11/6 this year) before the Sat Food & Wine half marathon. Nevertheless, booking home resort during 11 month window ts always recommended to assure you have a reservation.
