Use Year Question

I am considering purchasing a DVC property with a June 15 use year. Our hope was to have a Disney vacation in July or August of this summer. We are a family of 6. Question: Can I book before June as long as I don't stay before June?

Thank you.

Rich

yes. the points exist. you only need wait until the booking window to use them. you are well within the window so as soon as you have your member number you're good to go

You don't need to have the points when you make the reservation, you need to have them for the dates of your reservation.

Thank you. Is availability an issue for any Orlando property if reservations are not made until the beginning of May?

Depends on where you want to stay and the exact date of the reservation. I would guess it is very limited for the 4th of July week but not so bad on other weeks. SSR, AKV, OKW and possibly BLT will have rooms but some of the other resorts may be limited.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

DVC is designed to operate at 98% capacity. Your home resort allows you to book 11 months in advance, and everyone is equal across resorts at 7 months. If you're only booking 2 months out, you'll be picking up the leftovers, which could easily be single stranded days at a resort.

Trying to understand this also. I want to add on points in 2015. Our use year is December. We want to add on 150 points at Old Key West. If we add on before December will we get 2014 use year points... to bank right away? Then we would get another 150 use year points in December of 2015? Thanks in advance. :)

You are buying direct, why?

If you buy before Dec you are in your 2014 UY and you will buy 2014 points. Dec 2015 you are in your next UY and you will receive your 2015 points.

That's correct. But since you can rent points for around $13/point, it seems like a poor choice to pay ~$65/point more to purchase direct and get those points.

Personally I would rather own the points to have them until 2057 vs. a one time rental at 13.00. I know you have dues and what not but it works for us. :)

My point was not renting versus owning, but the added cost of purchasing direct. If you want to bank those points, I would assume that you don't need them immediately. And, you'd have to go on a wait list for OKW regardless. So you might as well purchase a contract on the resale market and use the money you saved to rent a few points if you need them immediately. You'll still save over $50/point even if you rent some to use now.

That make since, I was lost on your reply before thanks for the clarification. Thanks for you input.
