We're taking our first trip to FW this summer in our new 24 ft travel trailer for 18 nights!! I want to rent a golf cart offsite. Does anyone have any experience with Orlando Golf Cart Rentals? I know we will have to meet somewhere of property to get the cart. Can anyone share their experience renting offsite and recommend a good rental company?? We booked a preferred site..Can anyone tell me about these sites and where they are located. Do the sites have sand? My DH hates sand and he will break out in a rash if exposed to it for 18 days...Thanks so much!!!

Jonell,
Welcome to the Camping forum. :welcome:

You will have a great time for 18 days. The Preferred sites are loops 100, 200 and 300. These sites are closest to the Settlement and boat docks.
Here is a map that shows the loops. 100 is my favorite because of the proximity to the boats and the Settlement.

Preferred sites are smaller than the Premium sites with shorter and/or narrower paved areas. They also tend to be slightly narrower and have trees closer in. This makes them a challenge for the really 'big' rigs. Preferred sites do have a coquina crushed shell pad for tents where the Premium sites do not. As for "sand", the coquina shell feels and acts like sand. It gets on shoes and carried into your camper or tent, but it isn't sand. I'm not sure if that will make a difference for your DH or not. The pads are at the rear of the sites and unless you have a very long camper, you don't need to use it. If it is a big concern, you may want to change your reservation to a Premium site.

I have never rented a cart, but many on here have. Kenny at T-time has a pretty good reputation. I'm sure someone else will be along soon with Kenny's number and other recommendations.

Jonell,

Welcome to the Fort!

I sent you a PM regarding some info on Kenny, let me know if you need anything else on that subject. Never done the preferred, always take a premium site myself. I have the same allergy to sand that he does. It's actually crushed shells, but the effect of getting into everything is the same.

Jonell, welcome from me too.

Preferred sites are 12' wide paved and have the coquina tent pad at the rear. They are identical to the Full hookup sites at the Fort, the only difference being their location in the Fort (Disney prices Preferred sites a few dollars higher since they are closer to the boat dock/beach area).

Premiums are 18' wide paved and over 50' in length with NO coquina tent pad. They have plenty of space around them for slideouts and awnings on the bigger rigs. They are the most expensive sites at the Fort.

As far as sand or coquina tracking, as long as your trailer door is on the concrete and you don't walk back across the tent pad, it won't be an issue. But it does take a percentage of your site out of action since you don't want to use it.

PS - new trailer, huh? we love pictures....<hint, hint> popcorn::

Thanks guys for your replies. We would also like to set up a canopy with a screen on our site. Which would be our better option.. Preferred or premium site? Thanks

Preferred has less concrete, so more ground to stake a canopy.

Jonell,

Here are some pics of our last trip at the Fort. This is site 103. Loop 100. Most of the sites are about this big. Some a little bigger. If you have slides on both sides, it may be a little tight to get a screen room too. You can see in the pics, I have the camper set as far to the side as it can and the awning still extends off the pavement. I also have the trailer pushed back where the wheels are on boards at the edge of the coquina pad. My trailer is 30 ft long and I have a very long truck, but you can see I am still at the edge of the road.

I don't want to talk you out of a Preferred site, but if you have a larger rig with slides on both sides, it is a tight fit.

Thanks..This pic is very helpful. I was thinking the sites were much bigger, but camper is only 24 ft with one slide so we should be fine with the size.

I'm going out on a limb here but is purchasing a cart an option? For the length of your stay, a cart would pay for itself in two trips. We rented a cart our first trip and we felt like it was just throwing $$$ out the window.

We stayed 21 nights our last trip and if we had rented a cart from Disney it would have been $1400 plus with tax - no way! You can buy used ones in the range of $2,000 - $3,000.
