help!! How "scary" are these rides?

I too am a roller coaster chicken. I have learned to overcome my fear though. My young daughters are ride enthusiasts that begged me to ride with them. I figured it would be over in a minute and a half so I could gut it out once for them. Surprisingly, it was better than I thought. There are actually little hilly bumps on SDMT that make my tummy flutter, but nothing scary in the least. SM isn't scary, but I don't enjoy it at all because it is so jerky. It's not a comfortable ride at all. The theme is nice so I wish they would make it a smoother ride. Everest is kind of intense. I was able to handle riding it several times because I got over my fear, but there are parts I still have to try to gut through. It stops at a peak and sits there for a while before jerking you backwards. It made me nervous sitting there knowing I was about to be jerked backwards. Going backwards is a different feeling than going forwards too. The drop gets to me too, but overall the ride is really fun. It helped that my family loves it, so I liked joining in their fun. I say try riding these rides at least once.

oh my goodness 70 years old? wow! she is one brave women. haha i just love hearing other peoples stories because it makes me feel better about it lol i didn't think ee looked as bad as everyone is saying. I thought sm would be the worst. i hope you find the courage to go on sm and ee. it can't be all that bad right?

i've gone on rides that have gone backwards and it wasn't a big deal to me, so maybe i will be ok with EE. i'm glad you were able to over come your fears. i hope to be able to do the same...wish me luck! i am going to need it haha

You'll do great! Half the battle is preparing your mind for it. Each time you ride a coaster (same one or different), it gets easier. I never thought I would say I enjoyed riding a roller coaster but I did. It was so much fun to experience it with my girls. Have fun with it! Let us know how it goes when you get back.

i will be sure to let everyone know how this goes lol i keep trying to prepare myself by watching videos and such so i know what i can expect. now im worried because it looks like its going to rain the entire time i am there. i need to start doing the rain dance so i can get some sunshine

I am not a big coaster fan. It took a fair bit of courage for me to try BTMRR, but I absolutely loved it. My problem with coasters is the big drops, not the turns and speed. I love Big Thunder, but hate Splash Mountain because of the drop.

I've not tried Space Mountain. Partially because I'm not sure I would like it, and a bit more because I have a ruptured disc in my back, and am afraid that the jerkiness of it would leave me in pain.

7DMT . .. was a piece of cake, SUPER smooth. If you tolerated BTMRR, I think 7DMT will be a piece of cake for you.

Everest, I tried for the first time this past summer. I will do it again. It is WAY faster, and more thrilling than BTMRR, but doesn't have the straight down kind of drops that I really have a problem with. The drop is twisting / turning, and doesn't bother me nearly as much. It is a very fast ride though, plenty of G force, and it'll get the heart pumping for sure. Honestly, the backwards part of the ride didn't bother me a bit!

No one has mentioned Primevial Whirl in AK yet, so.... My coaster background: I love BTMRR (going in Aug to ride 7DMT), have a so-so relationship with Space due to the dark, and you can't drag me on EE due to some childhood Yeti issues. :) I have a love-hate thing with Primevial Whirl -- it's a a something-mouse type of a coaster, which means the cars are round and spin randomly. The track is tight, in a very small area with a couple steep drops. I always wonder at a couple points what the heck I'm doing on it, but I always go on again. It's a very different coaster than any other one at Disney. Worth trying, even (especially?) if you hate all the others!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who worries about decapitation on Space Mountain!

Keep in mind the shaky feeling you might get after a coaster ride might not be fear. Excess adrenaline can do that, and is more likely the cause. The good thing is the more you ride coasters your system realizes you're not in actual danger and adapts. You'll get just enough adrenaline to give you the fun ride "high" that makes people go on thrill rides again and again.

As for helping ease your fear, pick one good youtube video for each coaster. Virtually ride it over and over (full screen). Then when at Disney, do your best to ride the coaster in the same seat the video was shot from. The actual images will be similar enough to the video image that your system won't see it as a brand new scary thing. This helped me the first time I rode Tower of Terror after skipping it the previous 4 trips.

from reports here even if it does rain, it won't last - only Test Track seems to go down until the outside track is very dry.

I'll chime in with the others, that EE is very fun, enjoyable, but that beginning ride, if you look over to the side you may want to question your sanity! But, it doesn't have that huge downward drop that other coasters have (like at 6 Flags, etc) For me, it is the smoothest of the others - and like other posters commented, Space Mountain is jerky, and its in the dark so you don't know to brace yourself to go right, left, or down! It was my first coaster, and so I love it! I love how you sit on it - but do take off earrings before you ride it!

and if anyone has vertigo, you may want to give Rock n Roller coaster a try! DH hates, hates hates drops - so Tower of Terror he avoids, the one trip we went without dd, he said he'd ride ToT with me, if I would ride RnR with him... well, I don't like riding by myself... but my vertigo... oh, well, I thought it is only a 2 min ride, I can survive 2 minutes!! and it made my vertigo go away! (since then one program The Doctors have talked about some treatments where they do try and get those rocks back in the right area of the ear - I say, just go to Disney and ride RnR!! ;) )

Don't worry about the mine train. It's tamer and smoother than BTMRR. I don't ride Space Mountain or Everest. Space Mountain is too jarring from the bumpiness, Everest is too intense for me. I'm not a chicken because I love RNRC and Tower of Terror. It's just that Space Mtn and Everest are too uncomfortable for me.

Space Mountain is very jerky and made worse because you cannot anticipate your turns because of the darkness - will not ride it again.

I'm not a huge rollercoaster fan. I went on California Screamin' when I was nine years old and when I got off the ride I cried hysterically for about an hour.

However, I can go on most of the rides at Disney. Space, Thunder Mountain, and Mine Train I have no issues with. I absolutely will not go on Rock n' Rollercoaster. I'm also too scared to go on Everest, however I would probably be fine on that one.

However Everest, RNRC, and Tower of Terror are the only rides I absolutely refuse to go on.

I have always loved roller coasters, but on my last trip, Sept. 2014, Space Mountain scared the life out of me. I have been on it multiple times before, but I had a horrible feeling that I was going to fly out of it. I didn't feel secure at all. Seven Dwarfs is fine, Splash Mountain is fine, Big Thunder is fine and even Rockin Roller coaster is fine (the shoulder bars keep you secure), but I don't think I will eve go on Space Mountain again. It also made me all discombobulated, almost like a concussion when I got off of it and I felt that way for days.

We rode the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train last week. I had read in several different websites and books that the mine train was not scary at all, but my 8-year-old found in terrifying. She cried for a half-hour after getting off. Maybe because we rode it at night? Or perhaps they made it faster than it used to be? It may be a "kiddy" roller-coaster, but it is still a roller-coaster. My advice to parents of young (or easily scared) children would be to watch the ride first with your kids (from the outside), and let them decide if they want to go on it. I pushed my daughter to go on it because of what I had read, and it was a mistake.

I have a fear of roller coasters but over the years, I am learning to deal with it. I love EE and RnR and ride them multiple times on each visit. I freely admit my anxiety kicks in before each of these rides and then my asthma flares up because of being worked up. Its a vicious cycle. I know nothing will happen to me and I've ridden them plenty of times but the fear is still present. I think I decided to ride these rides because I was at the Happiest Place on Each and I wasn't going to miss out on the fun. I have my limit and know when enough is enough.

I do not ride SM anymore. It's too rough and I just don't enjoy it.
