Interactive Wands at HP

Anyone with any experience with the interactive wands? There a several different ones. Do they all do the same thing or does the difference in the wands only work certain effects?

The differences between the wands are aesthetic and have no effect on the usage on the interactive effects. They should all work the same.

Can the interactive wands be bought at the Universal Store in CityWalk, or just in Hogsmeade & Diagon Alley?

Do Premier AP holders get a discount at any of those places? (I am guessing that the Universal Store is "Universal owned and operated" but perhaps those in Hogsmeade & DA are not?)

Hoping to save a little on the purchase price with our AP's if possible.

Gina, I think I did get an AP discount on the wand. We bought it inside DA. While it is officially belonging to DD, I had fun with it too. I would buy it inside the park, as the only places our AP did not work was at some of the kiosks and the comic store. Always ask if you can use the discount.

With as crowded as I read DA is, is it actually possible to use the wands? We will be there in early June, and I'm betting at least one of my boys would get a kick out of using one.

Thank you Lynne! :thumbsup2

Just be sure to look at the wand and make sure it's an interactive one. It'll have a little nub at the end. Some lovely human put a non-interactive into an interactive wand box. DS didn't take the wand out, just looked from the top, and he hadn't actually seen an interactive one, and bought it. Since none of us had seen the interactives out of a box, it took us a bit too long to finally realize that something was wrong. Thankfully the kind TM at Hogsmeade Ollivanders exchanged it for us after several questions. Whew.

The interactive spots can get a line; even in January we saw TMs at the more popular spots, helping people out.

We went Jan 18-23rd and were able to do some of the wand stuff but not all. They were mobbed a lot of the time.Your best bet is doing them as one of the first things in the morning.Once the crowds roll in it is harder

That's what I was wondering. Crowds are supposed to be moderate during our visit, but you never know. We'll talk to the boys about this and see what they think. Dh is not a rope-dropper most of the time, so early is going to be out, I think.

The wands were one of the highlights of our trip. Even if it's crowded, there are LOTS of stations. The kids had a ball with them. And oddly, they didn't seem to mind if they saw the effect from the person in front of them (we always hang way back for the MK pirate game). It was different than doing it themselves, I guess (and my kids are 13&10). I highly recommend the wands, and I was a doubter.

I don't know about the character wands but the price for the Ollivanders originals is $48 with tax. IMO Ollivanders is the best place to get a wand, you can use your AP discount and TM's there are very friendly and helpful in choosing what style. Especially for my picky dd (9) who wanted "her own" wand, meaning not a replica of a HP character.

We were there last year and the kids both got wands. Do they need new/different ones for the interactive feature to work?

if you bought the interactive wands, they have something on the tip of them, then they would work on future trips to DA.

Yep, wands work all the time on all trips. My son has his and does bring it sometimes. It depends on his decision the morning we go.

Also AP discounts are applied.

Just remember normally most kiosk in parks and CW don't accept AP discounts.

When you were there last year, did they get interactive wands or regular wands? You have to buy an interactive wand for the interactive features to work. So if you bought interactive wands last year, you're fine. But if you bought regular wands last year, they won't work on the interactive features. (Maybe that was obvious, I'm not sure.)

It was actually Fall 2013, from the original Ollivanders, so I'm assuming they are the regular ones. Now to just try and convince the kids to share one instead of having to get 2 more

My kids have both decided to bring their wands from previous trips and let me buy the interactive one--and they'll use theirs while I use mine so they can pretend they're doing it. :goodvibes
