We're headed into "The Fort" for a week in April and want to bring our own means of transpo for on site.... bikes are a given but where are the rules on what you can/cant bring as far as golf carts? Disney isnt the only place we camp so we're looking for something that will fit the bill at both WDW and our other camping adventures.

Thanks for posting! Just read the document, what do they exactly mean by "must be golf style carts"? I'm assuming it needs to be an ezgo, club car, or yamaha golf cart and the no off road means razors and that sort of vehicles. I have an ezgo but it has a lift kit and the tires on it are not just smooth regular tires, they do have grips. That is not part of the prohibited carts is it?

We stayed at Fort Wilderness in one of the cabins this past weekend and saw numerous golf carts that had lift kits with off-road tires. I think the main thing is they don't want ATV quads and things like that.

Thanks! that's what I figured, just wanted to make sure someone had seen that to verify.

Is there an overwhelming amount of golf carts driving all over? We go to a campground where the amount of golf cart traffic is over the top. The funny thing about that campground is it's small enough to walk, but you see hardly anyone riding a bike or walking anywhere. And half the people on them don't look old enough to drive them. They race them too. You literally half to dodge them, almost hit us or our dogs numerous times. No one enforces the speed, age, or anything. This campground is on a beach so it's beautiful, but the golf carts are really too much. Admittedly they do have some really cool bad-bleep golf carts, cool wheels and tires, lift kits, all decorated up etc. I guess my question is do they take them on the bike walking paths? Are they everywhere like in this campground I'm describing? I hope they at least enforce a driving age. With Fort Wilderness being such a large resort might not be a problem.

Oh, I thought you were describing Fort Wilderness...:jester:

Come on Ed. That's the quietest I've ever seen you. :rotfl2:

There are times when it probably feels like what you described. A lot depends on the time of year, time of the day and who is in camp at that point.

Overall, my personal experience has been the carts are fine and not a problem. There have been specific times of the day when things were a bit crazy. We were coming back from the boat doc and HDDR had just let out and there was a big boat load of people coming home from MK. For about 10 or 15 minutes it was pretty crazy with everyone trying to get their carts out of the parking by the dock and the bus depot. Many with no lights and honking at the walkers to get off the walkway. 30 minutes later I was out walking around the loop and the Settlement had cleared out. On a walk back from the campfire and movie, again, when things were letting out, it was a bit crazy. Kids driving, yelling, weaving, no lights. Generally stupid behavior. Short lived.

Other times of the day, you may not even see a cart.

Hehe you guys are funny. No I was referring to another small campground we go to where mostly tweens/teens are racing them around unsupervised. It does really affect our enjoyment of that campground, it's insane. But I'm sure Fort Wilderness is large, and won't be an issue. Looking forward to my April trip and getting out of this long frigid Northeast nightmare winter. wooo hoooo. :smooth: :sunny:

Now I feel old, Teamubr....

Back in the bad old days on this board, there were battles between walkers/cyclists and golf cart folks. I'm grateful that we now have a board full of considerate, nice people who can discuss subjects in a civil tone.

In the good old days at the Fort, golf carts used to be able to drive across the bridge behind the Meadow Trading Post (between the pool and the TP) but it's been blocked off for several years. I was at the Fort once back when the bridge was open and there was an accident on the bridge between somebody on a cart and someone "not". Orange County Sheriff cars were present as was an ambulance. They kept us bystanders away so I couldn't see what happened.

All I know is next trip to the Fort, golf carts were blocked from the bridge and to get to the pool or campfire area, they had to drive the road around by 1500 and come in the back drive. I have been walking across the bridge "back in the day" (walking at a normal pace) and been honked at to not block the paved sidewalk by a golf cart. Needless to say I walked right down the middle of the walk as far as I wanted. ::yes::

The less I say the better...

Until somebody gets hurt WORSE than what's already occurred, tink, you will have to bite your tongue and wonder aloud, as I do, where are the parents of these kids in the golf carts.

I better stop now.

Bama Ed

PS - thanks, Jim, for the brake assist.....

Seriously, tink and OP, here are the published Fort Wilderness rules for golf carts and such. It's in the handouts you get when you check in.

I smile to myself when I think about golf carts at the Fort...

(this is me as happy as I can be)

It's a one page handout front-and-back.

Little ol' me....

I think we are pretty close to the same age, so, nope, you're not old. :yay:

I've been on here nearly as long as you. And I'm pretty sure I remember the battles with the GC set. From 05 or 06 until 2010 I had a different userID. During a hiatus from the forums my old computer failed and I lost my account password. Never did remember it so I just created a new account. The old user still shows on the list and I can see my old posts. Had 1500 or so on the old account. It's probably best that account stays in hibernation. I used to spend a fair amount of time on the other sections of DIS forums where the conversations are/were a little more Wild, Wild West'ish and things could get pretty heated.

Either way, I completely agree that this is a great, civil place and we should keep it that way.

So... back to the OP.

Thanks for posting the official rules. If I could ever figure out how to get it there with my 5th wheel, I know that my Gator wouldn't be allowed.
