Canadian Buffoon's Solo Disney Vacation - Update 07/08! pp99 - Here today gone tomorrow

I'm interested in your take on the FP+ system and how you liked it or didn't. I'm not thrilled with having to plan my rides ahead of time. I didn't mind the dining reservations because we love to eat. And of course I plan which park to go to on what day. But that is where my planning ends. And the Tier system is stupid! What if I want to ride Test Track and Soarin on the same day? And part of the fun of MK was walking down Main Street and deciding at the last minute whether to turn right or left.

They have those at Applebee’s. How often do you think they disinfect the screens?

I've never seen them at Applebee's. I will have to look next time. And I usually have anti-bacterial wipes.

She wasn't.
And neither was the 17 year old.

I still think that right up to the moment I left, they thought I was pranking them.

My 32-year-old was the same. She wandered around the house saying "I can't believe I'm not going" for the entire week before we left - that is I left. With 2 granddaughters.

I don't sashay when I'm angry.
I march.
Quickly.
Seethingly.

I'm just going to back away, now.

I dunno.
I was thinking that everyone with problems maybe had them delivered?
I thought maybe there'd be less likelihood of an incorrectly programmed band if you picked it up at the resort.

And I could be completely wrong.

Delivered. Worked perfectly. Bazinga!

It just about broke my heart. This poor woman sitting there with tears running down her face while I'm off to Disney for fun and sun.

I'll bet it put a damper on your good mood for a while.

I was so ready to start fighting the CM on room assignment!

Put up your dukes! What a let down when you didn't get to fight!

BUZZ!!!!! OMG! I thought you'd dropped off the end of the world!
Where've you been?????
I've missed you!

So happy you're here!!

Look who's here! How's the whole Buzz family?

This is so how I feel on a Disney trip! Some times I think the planning is the best part. It is at the very least a huge part of the whole experience.

I like the planning too, but sometimes it gets to the point where I've had enough and just want to get there already!

I love the planning. It really is half the fun for me. And, it's not just Disney trips, but all trips, big and small.

Sandy
(Now that I know how to multi-quote, and it is so easy, I am going to be so annoying!)

I have read the latest chapter, yay me! . Working on a breakdown, and while I was actually about 3/4 of the way done with it, I pressed the eject button on my keyboard and it all disappeared .

Fortunately, I was able to recover the majority of it, but now have to sift through a slew of repeated text that got jumbled together in the interim. I will hopefully post the breakdown tomorrow.

Agreed! I even have gone so far as to think I won't make any plans at all. Just wing it! But with the need for FP+ and dining reservations, some planning must be done. It's a small price to pay for such a great vacation.

It really does make a difference.
I love using the FP lane and by-passing the masses.
A little research goes a long way.
But at some point, you have to close the book, shut the computer and say, "Enough!"

Wow already on page 6? I have some catching up to do. Hope you feel better

Hi Tammie! I was wondering if you'd pop in!
So great that you made it! :goodvibes

My back and my cold are slowly resolving.
Today was the first day where I hardly winced at all.

ETA: Nice start, Ponz. So hard to be hit with that lady's sad reality while you are on your carefree start of vacay. It was really nice of you to listen to her.

I couldn't just walk away when someone's hurting right in front of me.

I love that you were at ASMu. That will be our first night this trip, so I'm interested to see your pics of the resort. We have never been there. I have been at the front of Pop at 5AM on a bus on our way to the airport, but I didn't see much.

Uh, oh. I hate to tell you this. I think I only took one more picture at ASMu.
I just wasn't there very much.

You'll see.
Or not, as the case may be.

That means LeFou has been voted off the Island!

 And Survivor just started, too.
Are you watching?

And looking above, it also looks like I have no idea how to quote

It's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it's not bad.

I'll have an interesting (well I thought it was. YMMV) take on that by the last day of the TR.
I'll also discuss Soarin' vs TT when I'm at Epcot.

My 32-year-old was the same. She wandered around the house saying "I can't believe I'm not going" for the entire week before we left - that is I left. With 2 granddaughters.

 So I see some things don't change!

I'm just going to back away, now.

Don't mess with me if I'm marching.
Sashaying? Oh, sure.

But marching?
Just. Don't.

Delivered. Worked perfectly. Bazinga!

I'll bet it put a damper on your good mood for a while.

To be honest, I was on such a high that not too long after talking with her,
I was in a pretty good mood again.
I guess nothing can bring you down from an imminent Disney vacay!

Put up your dukes! What a let down when you didn't get to fight!

I know! I haven't done it before and was almost looking forward to it!
"You can't trick me! I'll show you! Now give me the room that I want!"

I love the planning. It really is half the fun for me. And, it's not just Disney trips, but all trips, big and small.

Yeah I plan the heck out of mine too. I planned like crazy for Hawaii and Europe.
And for little trips in between.
Eventually, though. I make myself sick of it... or I panic that I'm not ready yet!

Oh, no! I know how busy you are Heather, you don't have to do a breakdown,
just a "I have read the latest chapter, yay me!" would be great!
But if you do... I'll look forward to it! :)

I can't copy on this tablet yet so I'll just reply . I wouldn't miss your trip
At least you got a pic of the room ;) I don't even know about sections I did see on a map that they have a guitar pool too I thought it was only a piano glad you feel better hope your back holds out

Ok, I read and commented on the last chapter. When's the next one? :earboy2:

When and what is your next trip?

So, I found some problems with my new car. For one the CD player doesn't work. :worried: Not sure I can survive without one!!! The fuel gauge doesn't work, and I keep getting service engine soon and low windshield washer fluid low messages! It's too late now, no returns. But it drives really nice and looks really good.

I know! I wasn't going to tell this story, but I've changed my mind.
When we were leaving for Disney last November, just me and 2 granddaughters aged 16 and 6, we had to swing back by my house to pick up a forgotten jacket. My daughter met me in the driveway and said that she had just had a call from a New Orleans hospital saying that her ex (father of the 6 year old) had just had a stroke. The father of the 16 year old (ex of my older daughter) had died after having a series of strokes during back surgery about 3 years ago. I was kind of stunned, thinking this was going to change DGD6's life for ever, and that she was going to have to visit him in a rest home for the rest of his life. Also, I thought she might have to be providing care for him when she became an adult.
I was thinking that DD would have to contact his mom and sister and get them to apply for disability for him and arrange for long term care, maybe get him transported near them.
Should I tell the girls? Am I a horrible person to just keep going toward Florida? Would it do any good to upset them both and end the trip before it has started? I decided it would serve no purpose to tell them, so I just kept driving. There were tears running down my face but I somehow kept them hidden and acted like I was just really paying attention to traffic. By the time we hit Alabama I was in good spirits (a sad statement on my character).
He recovered completely, by the way, and was only off work about 7 weeks after physical therapy and a major change to his diet. It turns out that my DD#2 is still his emergency contact - she is not happy about that.

I have tons of issues when I try to reply using my iPod, so I feel your pain.
I know a bit about the sections.
Jazz = good. Country Fair = long, loooooong walk to busses and food court.
As in, don't even bother. Just give up and stay in your room.

The guitar pool is the main pool and can get busy.
The piano pool was nice and quiet. Too far to go or not known about by the guests closer to the front of the resort.

I have read the latest chapter. YAY ME!:jumping1:

Nope.
I said Lady H could just put that.
From you I expect a complete breakdown of every sentence including footnotes and bibliography.

Oh, all right. Wipe those tears. I'll let you use "I have read the latest chapter" too.

Ok, I read and commented on the last chapter. When's the next one? :earboy2:

Not too soon. Still working (slowly) on getting the photos done.
Been busy, but.... hopefully not too long.
I'm at work on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Weekends are slow.
Weekend evenings are really slow.
So I should be able to do a fair bit of writing then.

When and what is your next trip?

Got nothing planned at the moment.
But I had a conversation with Ruby...
And I may start going to Disney (with or without her) more often.

And by more often, I mean maybe once a year... not multiple times/year.

Oh, wait. I may be heading out to Toronto in April, depending if she's going for work or not.

Oh, that's too bad about finding problems.
Not something you want when you just get it.
Did you buy it from a dealer? Or a private seller?

Some times you have to take care of yourself and your family (in this case DGD6) first and worry about other stuff later.
I totally get it.

Got the car from a dealer but I bought it as is and no warranty so no take backs or fixes for it. DH thinks I might be able to hook up my phone to the car so maybe I'll be able to play itunes.

I'm hoping we can go to WDW next year the last week of September. I really want to stay part of the time at AKL and part of the time at a value. Or the whole time at a moderate. Do you want to go next September???

September 2016? My DD is hoping for another DCP gig for Fall of 2016. I need another excuse to head to WDW for visitation. ::yes::

Yes Marie, September 2016. We want to go the last week so we can go to F&W. DH wants to try the escargot in France. I tried the beer cheese soup in Canada one year and I didn't really like it. We'll have to see about the money situation to see where we stay and for how long. DH and I have joked that we want to stay at a value and get deluxe dining!!! :D

Okay, pretty sure (not 100% but pretty sure) that this is the first TR I've read that featured an underpants picture. So congrats on that!!!! :woohoo:

Hmmm, up at 5, at work at 6:30. You’re doing something wrong - I get up at 5:45, shower, dress, hair, make-up, make coffee, get the dog out and fed, get the kid up, dressed, ready to go and dropped off with the amazing granddad, and get to work at 6:30. I'm thinking I may have a slightly shorter commute than you do…..

:rotfl2: Dying over your check-in process. That is just the kind of situation I am always stumbling into. GAH!!!!

Awww - I totally understand feeling like a cad. But parents are people too - we forget that most of the time, but at some point, we have to remember that. I have a semi-secret dream of one day going to WDW all by myself. One of many reasons I’m so excited that you have started this TR. :goodvibes

Okay, look, big dog farts are NO JOKE in this house..... :scared1: We share our space with a VERY large dog........

When I first heard you had a NINE HOUR lay-over, I freaked out a little for you. Sounds like it was more of a visit than a lay-over though, so I'm okay now. I know you were concerned.

The iPad waiting area is really something. I have definitely never seen anything like that in the airports we have visited. I bet your fellow traveler really appreciated your kindness. :goodvibes

Gotta admit to being a smidge jealous of your carefree carry-on only approach. Our last trip to WDW and upcoming trip involved not just the Willow Princess Situation but two trips in one - WDW and DCL. Yep - we travel with plenty of carry-on luggage plus 3 HUGE checked bags. One of those checked bags is pretty much stuffed with princess dresses…… I’m guessing this will be the last trip for that though, so I’m not going to flinch - one more trip filled with that little-girl love of the princess magic? I’ll shlep a lot of bags for that at this point.

Can't wait to read about your first Disney day!!!! :goodvibes

Woohoo! And you've made it to Disney... I've been laughing all the way! Glad you got the Jazz section! :thumbsup2

Ugh. Did the dealer tell you about those issues, though?
Doesn't seem overly ethical.

Oh, brother. Listen to me.
Using the word 'ethical' in a conversation about a used car salesman.

:sad2:

I've been in September, and it's great.
But I think (unless it's a family trip... not likely) that I'd like to stick to winter.
That was kind of the whole point when I said I'd like to do it more often.

It was soooooooooo nice to get away from the cold.
Even if it was just for a short time.
As I get older, these winters just seem to get longer, and longer.

DH and I have joked that we want to stay at a value and get deluxe dining!!! :D

Let me know how that goes!

Okay, pretty sure (not 100% but pretty sure) that this is the first TR I've read that featured an underpants picture. So congrats on that!!!! :woohoo:

I promised never before seen pics, didn't I?
More on that later.

I could (in a pinch) get up at 5:45 and still make it on time.
I have to be out the door by 6:00.
I used to get up at 5:30, but it just felt rushed.
I just didn't want to rush anymore in the morning.

So there ya have it.
:rotfl2: Dying over your check-in process. That is just the kind of situation I am always stumbling into. GAH!!!!

Perhaps there will be another story for the return trip????

I will confess this to you, since you're dreaming of it.
I was never happier that I was alone.
And yet...

I did things, as you can imagine, on my own time and with my own agenda.
And yet...

I would see or do something and want to share it with Ruby.
Or look at something and think "Oh, Kay would love this!"

Would I go alone again?
Absolutely!
But at some point, I'd like to be able to share my fun with someone, too.

Okay, look, big dog farts are NO JOKE in this house..... :scared1: We share our space with a VERY large dog........

We have a mid-size pup... I hear ya.

And sometimes, at night, I hear the dog too.

When I first heard you had a NINE HOUR lay-over, I freaked out a little for you. Sounds like it was more of a visit than a lay-over though, so I'm okay now. I know you were concerned.

I was! When I booked the flight and saw the layover,
my first thought was "Oh no! I hope Roni's going to be okay!!"

The iPad waiting area is really something. I have definitely never seen anything like that in the airports we have visited. I bet your fellow traveler really appreciated your kindness. :goodvibes

I doubt she'd remember me. She was pretty overwhelmed with life at the moment.
Still. Glad I did it though.

I totally get that.
First trip with our girls when they were 4 and 8.
We did stuff, or more importantly, didn't do stuff that would never have happened without them.

But totally worth it.

Can't wait to read about your first Disney day!!!! :goodvibes

Soon... Well, maybe a few days.
I've got some other TRs that I need to catch up with .... including yours!

Woohoo! And you've made it to Disney... I've been laughing all the way! Glad you got the Jazz section! :thumbsup2

Yup! And it was only slightly painful!
Glad you're enjoying the TR! :)

And, trust me on this, you're not nearly as glad that I got Jazz as I was!

Ponzi, I see you're talking about making regular trips to WDW. I'm sure you've figured this out already, but if you know you're going yearly, get an annual pass and schedule the next trip a week before your pass ends. They're also great for discounts in the shops.

I have no idea how that came out - but then maybe most don't. :lmao:

Oh, and I did DVR Survivor and Amazing Race but haven't watched Survivor yet. AR is interesting this season

Any other letter and I probably wouldn't have noticed.

I've (hopefully :scared:) got AR DVRd, but haven't had a chance to watch them yet.

Actually.... no, I hadn't thought about an AP.
Only after I read your comment did I check on the cost.
Only problem is I won't know that far ahead if I'll be doing two trips in one year.
Ruby's schedule is such that I don't necessarily want to leave her alone without help at the wrong time.
I definitely will be giving it some thought, though.
