The family has decided on a road trip Memorial Day weekend and the plan is to stay for 2 nights. I want to explore both side of Falls so one day we will be on the NY side and the next day we will be on the Canada side. Looking for suggestions on a good hotel to be our base camp as we do the tourist things...

Went last April. Stayed at the Sheraton on the falls. Got a package with the indoor water park. Also a room with a view of the falls. Parked in their lot and everything was walkable. Self parking was cheaper than valet. It as on the Canadian side.

We stayed on the Canadian side at the Embassy Suites, falls view and breakfast. We walked pretty much everywhere on the Canadian side although at the end of the day we took a cab back a few times. Lots of walking to be done! We did the American side on the way home, traffic across the bridge was backed up all the time so we only wanted to cross it twice.

Go to Canada...the Canadian side is built up way more. The Sheraton is a nice place to stay...great pool. Much more to do on Canada side. Ohh--The casino is nearby too and views of falls on that side are just tremendous.

Embassy Suites -- Canadian side. Great location, beautiful view from the two room suite, breakfast buffet and afternoon drinks and snacks. I can highly recommend.

Just went in October. Stayed at the Marriott Fallsview on the Canadian side. The NY side was not as nice. There is now so much to do that I wouldn't even waste time going to the US side, I'd just stay both nights on the Canadian side and save that time.

We go twice a year, always stay at the Embassy Suites on the Canadian side. Free breakfast, drinks at night. Be sure to grab a great dinner at the Keg - steakhouse on the ninth floor. Great view of the falls.

We stayed at the Sheraton on the US side, across the street from the Casino. Falls was very walkable, not far from the hotel. Easy parking lot at the hotel, and a few minutes from the Rainbow Bridge.

Check Groupon. Some great deals on 1,2, or 3 night stays on quite a few of the hotels on the US or Canadian side.

We always stayed on CA side, many years. Now we have family up there and stay American side at their home. A few things come to mind.
If driving over into CA, the customs can have horrible long delays, find the times at various crossings, especially if staing on the US side. Travel up to one of the other crossings, there must be an ap for that.

The second thing is you need at least passcards if you don't have a passport to go over. The kids vary with ages, I think up to 16 with a birth certificate.

We did the same in late August and I 100% agree. We had a fantastic view of the falls from our room and were able to walk everywhere and there was a ton to see and do.

You can do the USA side in 2 hours. The only thing to do different on the American side is the Cave of the Winds tour. You can do the Maid of the Mist on either the US side or Canada side. As far as hotel, it depends what you want. The Clifton Hill area is bustling with activity but is can be louder. The Fallsview area is a bit away from the Falls but there is an incline railway behind the Embassy Suites that will get you to the Table Rock building.

The Canadian side is better in general but Cave of the Winds on the NY side is worth doing.

We went a few years ago over Memorial Weekend. We did the NY side in one morning/afternoon and then stayed on the Canadian side in a Bed and Breakfast. Victorian Charm B&B. It was within walking distance of the falls ( a few blocks ). We left our car there for most of the weekend and walked everywhere! We did drive up to Niagara-On-The-Lake one day...great town and very nice atmosphere. Niagara Falls on the Canadian side has a nice bus transportation system to get around also. I also vote for the Canadian side!!

this. we had a fabulous view and enjoyed the hotel very much.

Just to throw out another option - we stayed at the Country Inn and Suites on the Canadian side and were happy with it. It is well reviewed on trip advisor also.

Just stayed at Embassy Suites last week, in Canada. It was very nice with many things to do in the vacinity. When we were there it was just too cold to do much walking around but in spring or summer this is a great location. You could also walk over the rainbow bridge to american side to explore for a little while.

We also love the Embassy Suites. We get good deals sent to us since we've stayed there and/or sometimes get great groupon deals. We stayed there last month for $95 per night which included $25 for the Keg, two free happy hour drinks and snacks, a full made to order breakfast for four and a $25 credit at the casino. The valet parking was an extra $30 per night though - but still worth it. Great rooms that overlook the falls! :thumbsup2
