Is there a forum or thread that extends as far as Austin TX?

Just looking for some recommendations for things to do there.

We will be there over Veterans Day.

Please move/remove the thread if not appropriate.

Austin is a great town, lots to do. The state capitol building has a tour that I've heard is very cool; Bob Bullock museum is supposed to be great for lots of different ages; depending on the weather the bats may still be under the Congress Ave bridge; Austin Duck Tours are cool and different. Zilker Park is beautiful and the trails around Barton Creek, especially near Spyglass so you can visit Tacodeli!

Wonderful! Thank you!

So far the only tips I've had from people have been only food related!!

There's also the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, but I don't know what would be growing then. It probably won't be cold, so maybe some Fall wildflowers. Also Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve. In Marble Falls, about an hour from Austin, Sweet Berry Farms has a pumpkin patch, hay maze, and really good pumpkin ice cream. If it's not too cold, there's kayaking and SUP on Lady Bird Lake. Live music. The Capitol is pretty. There's some art museums. The City-Wide Garage Sale is cool, but I'm not sure when the next one is. Mt Bonnel. Awesome toy store downtown called Toy Joy. Steam train to Burnet or Bertram. Alamo Drafthouse movie theater. I can't remember if they still have bowling at High Ball or not. Darts and beer at Draught Horse or Dog and Duck and maybe Gingerman. Half Price Books. Biking or roller blading at the Veloway. Metal cows at the Arboretum. Cooking classes at Central Market, or just shopping there. Flagship Whole Foods. Sunset Valley or Barton Creek Square Farmers Markets.

Austin has a pretty eclectic mix, from outdoor adventures to museums and food truck parks to fine dining. I you're runners there are several events in the area the weekends before and after Veteran's Day. Shopping, dining and people watching are great in the SoCo area. Whole Foods Market's flagship store and the surrounding area is worth a visit.

City-Data.com forums.

Austin is a great town. Get some real BBQ from John Mueller or Franklin BBQ. Or, if you have a car go out to Lockhart. Don't go to Salt Lick. It is a tourist trap and while the food is decent, it is not true to Central Texas style BBQ.

If you're into night life, try 6th St and 4th St. in downtown. 6th St bars tend to be more for the college aged crowd with lots of great music choices. 4th St seems to be a little quieter and more subdued... think dancing clubs vs. martini bars.
I love staying at the Driskill.
Take a tour of the capital- it's the only one allowed to be as tall as the US Capital because Texas was it's own republic before it joined the US. There are a lot of interesting facts and the architecture is pretty cool too.
If you're outdoorsy, there's tons to do. Lakes, bicycling, jogging, etc...you name it.
Food and shopping are all diverse. Austin is a huge melting pot of cultures so there's a lot of different foods as well as trendy clothing stores that cater to the college crowd.
Congress St Bridge and the bats.
There are a few venues that feature up and coming stars- Stubbs BBQ, etc.
If you have plenty of time and a car, a fun trip that takes about an 1.5 hours to get to is Fredricksburg. There are wineries, antique stores and a lot of museums.
It's a little over an hour to San Antonio as well.
There's something for everyone there, its just a matter of fine tuning your taste to what you want to experience.
Have fun!

I didn't want to type up a novel about Austin, because there is just too much. But, you can start by reading here http://365thingsaustin.com/

Even after living here since 1990, I still find fun things to do by reading 365 in my facebook newsfeed every week.
