FYI, passports are taking between 5-6 months right now

DD(18) needed to get a new passport. Because she just turned 18, it's not a renewal and is instead a new application. She got it done at the post office and was told it's taking 5-6 months to get back due to COVID.

Wow, that's terrible. I don't doubt that it's true (It took this retired cop 10 months to get Global Entry), but it really doesn't seem right.

I think some governmental agencies are more hiding behind Covid than trying to work through it.

Both DH and I sent ours for renewal 62 days ago and haven't received our new ones yet. However, DD had to get a new one because she is too young for a renewal and she got hers in 48 days.

I am at over 8 weeks on a renewal and still waiting. I wonder if it depends on when you sent the application in since they are backed up. They had my renewal on site for 4 weeks before it even showed as in processing. In the meantime, my Global Entry renewed in about 2 days.

Our local news this morning said to expect to wait 18 weeks for new or renewal, and if you pay the $60 expedite fee, expect to wait 12 weeks.

Ugh, thanks for the heads up. I have to get my youngest her passport for next summer, so I suppose I'd better get the ball rolling soon just to be on the safe side.

This is the official time frame on the US gov website. Maybe we'll get lucky and have it come back early :) The 4 week turnaround previously mentioned sounds pretty great.

Not sure what is going on. Just back from my Post Office and they have big signs up saying as of August 1 they are no longer a Passport facility. I asked the clerk and she said it was because so few people were using the service because they were staying home due to the pandemic.

my wife applied for hers in June and I did mine in July for a Feb 2022 trip. Sounds like it was a good thing we got a jump on them.

We sent ours off in Mid May. Mine was a first time and DH's was a renewal. His is showing "in progress" and mine is showing "not found", but I know they have it because they cashed my check. We need ours for November - surely we will have them by then.
