What to do with half a day in Orlando

My family and I will be in Orlando for a half day before and after a Disney cruise we are taking this summer. We are looking for ideas of what would be fun to do in a half day. Some ideas we had were airboat rides or the space center. We thought one of the theme parks might be too much (and too expensive) for just a half day. Any thoughts are welcome!

The Orlando Eye is a nice little complex to visit.

The Eye itself is fun, and there are some nice places to eat around the area too.

You could always go to Disney Springs. We did the space center but it was a full day just to see everything.

If you have the chance, Disney Springs is a great place to eat, shop, and spend a few hours and easily half the day.

Years ago my family did a Segway tour through Orlando and Celebration and it was a bomb! I would highly recommend doing the tour as driving a Segway is a unique experience and it was such a neat way to experience Celebration, all while learning neat tidbits of history!

First Question Do you have a car ?

If yes & you wish to do an Airboat Ride .... here is an idea.

Get onto Hwy 50 ..... heading towards Titisville .

On this road you will go through Christmas ( There is a replica of Fort Christmas About 4 miles up the

left turn road ) Go through Christmas & Midway Airboat Rides are on your Left .

After Airboat Ride head for Port Canaveral ( Cocoa Beach )

Another One ....... As you exit Port Canaveral TURN Left heading for Cocoa Beach

AT Ron Johns Turn RIGHT Heading for Merritt Island Keep on

Eventually you will come to The Lone Cabbage Patch ( on your Left ) Here there is another

Air boat Ride .

You could go over to Fort Wilderness to eat and do some of the many activities there. Take the boat to Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary and look around. Take the monorail over to the Poly for a Dole Whip, they boat to MK and back to the Fort.

If you are talking about you embarkation day, in practical terms you don't have 1/2 a day. I know they say departure is at 4, but you need to be on board at least 2 hours early. If you are driving you want plenty of time for something to go wrong. I wouldn't want to leave Orlando after 10 or MAYBE 1030. That really gives you time to for a decent breakfast somewhere. On the way back you may have time to do something, but be very careful on embarkation day.

Disney Springs, or (gasp) City Walk at Universal are good choices. If you'd like something really easy, you may wish to visit Disney's neighboring town, Celebration. It is exactly what you would expect from a town originally built by Disney. There are trails to walk, restaurants and a few shops. Very low key after a cruise!
