Buena Vista Suites and similar...

Hi!
We have stayed at the Buena Vista Suites before, but its been years. Looking for something similar -- close to the parks, and the room must be a suite. Any suggestions?
We may go with Buena Vista but wanted to see if anyone had other suggestions.

We don't want to spend a lot of money because we will be at the parks most of the time.

I'm a huge fan of the DoubleTree Suites on Hotel Plaza Blvd next to Disney Springs. I've stayed many nights (50+) in the past couple of years and never had more than a minor problem that always get fixed instantly. (Stuff like broken TV remotes or soap/shampoo that didn't get replenished.) Most stays have been blemish-free.

Suites are similar to the Buena Vista Suites: a bedroom with either 1 king bed or 2 queen beds plus a sleeper sofa in the living area. There's also a wet bar with sink, mini refrigerator, and microwave. The DoubleTree rooms are wide, not long like at Buena Vista Suites. By that I mean that the living room and bedroom both have windows.

If you're looking to save money, you can easily walk from the DoubleTree Suites to cheaper off-site dining options like McDonalds, Perkins, and Taco Bell. It's about a 10 minute walk. (If you need a late-night snack or early morning meal, both McDonalds and Perkins have dining rooms open 24/7.)

Transportation is provided to the theme parks every 30 minutes. There are two buses, each visiting two parks. One will usually go to the Transportation and Ticket Center (bus/monorail transfer to Magic Kingdom) and then Disney's Animal Kingdom. The other usually goes to Epcot, then Disney's Hollywood Studios.

I've never priced the Buena Vista Suites, so I can't compare. The DoubleTree Suites rates can be as low as $109 or as high as $200+. Parking is extra but there is not a resort fee.

I always check the Disney Springs Hotels marketing website to see if there are any discounts available. Any links there will send you to the official Hilton website, which means you can earn frequent guest points via the HHonors program. (If you're not a member, be sure to sign up prior to staying. It's free and points don't expire as long as you have a qualifying activity every 12 months.)

I agree with PP. I have stayed at both and there is a lot more room in the Doubletree suites. I felt very cramped in Buena Vista but we are a family of 5.

It really depends on what you need. I am sure the DoubleTree is a great suite as an efficiency. If you are looking for a full kitchen, full dining area, family room, 1 or more bedrooms, Wyndham Bonnet Creek is extremely hard to beat. Look at options like Windsor Hills (I have not stayed there but seriously considering it this Summer). There are tons of options, but it all depends on what you want.

It will only be for 3 nights so I think we could get away without the full kitchen. I'll look at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek though.

We stayed in Windsor Hills last month actually and had a great time. We don't need a full week this time though and are looking to book using credit card points so we won't actually have to pay anything.

I'm leaning toward Doubletree in DS. We won't be cooking. We just need a separate sleeping space for our children. Only reason I lean toward Buena Vista is its cheaper, and has free breakfast...

I did see the daily resort fee... but they have free parking. Does DS charge $20 a day for parking or is the $20 a flat rate for the whole stay?
I saw the free continental breakfast! That's pretty good.

BVS... $380 for 3 nights plus $9.95 per day resort fee. Includes free full breakfast
DTS... $550 plus $20 per night parking... free continental breakfast

Since I only stay at Hilton Family hotels, that is all I can comment on. If you have a car, I would go with the Homewood Suites Lake Buena Vista. I usually find better rates than Doubletree and you don't have to pay for parking. You do get a free breakfast and dinner w/ wine or beer.

Homewood is often overlooked. We have stayed at many and always a good experience.

Been a few years and they totally rehabbed the suites since but had great stay.
Location is great, can even walk to some eats from there.
Buffet breakfast in morning was a large variety and good, filled us up every day.
Our suite was a 2 bedroom, great layout.
Pool area is nice, smaller, but it was never crowded and we only went once since we are park-centric.
Absolutely would stay again as they have lots of perks and not on the FEE bandwagon.

about location and restaurants.
I changed our reservation to Staybridge instead of BVS and I'm looking forward to it! We got a two bedroom suite that sleeps 8 so it's much larger than BVS, slightly more expensive, but with breakfast I think it'll be worth it.

Plus, BVS has had some very questionable reviews lately.

Across one way is a Winn Dixie grocery, liquor store, ice cream and pizza.
Across the other is a shopping center with italian, mexican and steak & shake.
Within a block or so is Joes Crab Shack, Macaroni Grill, Chilis, Shoneys, Ale House, Dunkin .... and more!

Unless a big change, there is no comparison between BVS and SBS breakfast.
StayBridge had a WAY bigger better selection and multiple rooms to eat in.
After one day eating at BVS we skipped the breakfast.
