Just Back (10/10 - 10/15): Hanging up my Disney Ears

I hope in the future they will come to their senses and stop this crazy over crowing.

Capacity is capacity, right?

Even with the Fast pass, we never got to ride Soaring.

Why?

Good luck with your future trips but please remember this one message- NEVER TRAVEL ON CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES!

Plenty of people enjoy their Carnival cruises just fine. Plenty of those people also cruise other lines, so they aren't just blinded by one line. Just because you or your friends have had some bad experiences doesn't mean everyone does. Therefore, if they want to try it they should.

First of all, it really is too bad that you didn't enjoy your most recent trip. We all know how much planning, anticipation (and not to mention money) goes into a Disney trip, and for it to not turn out how you wanted is never good to hear.

However, what struck me is that your biggest complaint was it being overcrowded. I'm not sure what Disney can do about that. They're not going to limit the number of tickets they sell, or close the park when it isn't at full capacity. I can see adding more attractions to further disperse the crowds, but honestly new attractions might have the opposite effect of bringing in even more crowds. This isn't to say your complaint isn't valid, just more of a question of "what can be done to combat this issue".

But no matter, hopefully you can find a new vacation destination that will bring you as much joy as Disney had prior!
Crowds are down but disney is understaffing making it seem like they are more crowded. Wouldn't be disney if they weren't trying to save every penny they could!

Ah, that I can understand, and certainly easily correctable.

I'm just dusting off my ears (literally, found them in a box) and going back next year. We aren't every year people, more like every 3 to 4.

I foresee WDW staying in our vacation rotation for a few more trips to come. After 2017 will probably be 2020/21. Visiting Vancouver and possibly a Viking River Cruise in between!!!

I feel our 3 year plan keeps things fun & fresh. There is usually several big new attractions in that time so there is something new to explore. It's a perfect amount of time to truly miss it, too. It also helps with budgeting, of course, so we can splurge more when we go. And its a perfect time to plan since (like many here) I am a bit obsessive with planning. Although I sometimes fantasize about unexpectedly coming into extra cash and heading down sooner, I really do feel that this wouldn't be the best idea. I think fondness DOES make the heart grow fonder, and if we went more often it would loose some sparkle and magic and I'd be more critical. Going every 3 years, we're SO excited when a trip comes around again. It also works great for our kids, because every 3 years they enter a new "stage" - e.g. at 4 DD was really into the Princess stuff, and at 7 she was excited to go on the thrill rides she wasn't tall enough for the first time. Next trip it will be DS's turn for the thrill rides since he went at 1YO and 4YO, and wasn't tall enough for Space Mountain & Rock N Roller Coaster (and too scared for TOT). He'll be 7 next trip. And now we have a new baby girl to do the princess stuff with again (yay!). When we went in 2012, the new Fantasyland wasn't built yet, so we were excited about that in 2015. When we go back in 2018, Pandora will be open (and maybe Star Wars/Toy Story expansion? Or, maybe not...). Shows and parades are new, etc.

I felt that way a few years ago, then the grand babies started coming and I began to enjoy Disney through their eyes. Enjoy your new vacations, wherever you may go!

OK, great. You came here to tell everyone this because...?? If you don't want to go to WDW anymore, that's fine. Plenty of people make that choice. Guess I just don't get the point of coming onto a WDW forum to say that.

Best of luck and enjoy your other trips.

You will love the Universal Hotels and thier service. Easily rivals anything WDW does.

I am hopeful! It is starting off a little frustrating as I can't seem to find as much info as I can on WDW. And I miss the free transportation to the resort :( I am spoiled like that.

But, I am really praying we love the parks - I would love to do WDW for hotel only and USO for parks at a future trip. I love the WDW bubble...I think that feeling is hard to recreate..

there's a boat from Hard Rock and Portofino and a bus from Cabana Bay to Citywalk. But there is no real need as all of them are fairly easy walking distance
There's also a Universal forum here on the boards

I don't think it is overcrowding, I think it is FP+. At the times we go, for years we were used to walking on POTC, Small World, Figment, Buzz, Living with the Land, Nemo etc, even in the middle of the afternoon. Now, we find lines for each of those often at 30 to 40 minutes. We feel like we run back and forth with FP+. It was actually a little better this last trip since they have given you the ability to book your 4th FP+ on the app. It is frustrating to deal with lines significantly longer than what you have been used to for years, and for the rides that were traditionally FP, to be unable to use FP for them in the tiering parks or even in the other parks with the 3 day limit. (the old days we would FP Soarin and Test Track each once and nothing else- ocassionally 2 for Soarin). Our trip a couple of weeks ago we really felt at the recent cut backs too. Although people have been complaining about it for years and we have gone to WDW every year for the last 9 years, last year was the first year we felt any impact at all, and this year we really felt it. If you still love Disney, I would suggest giving DLR a try. We LOVE DLR. If it wasn't for EPCOT, I'm not sure any of us would feel the need to go back to WDW and we would all be perfectly happy at DLR. EPCOT is the only thing we miss when we are at DLR. We typically stay at DLH and with the walk to the park from there being through DTD, we still feel like we are in the Disney bubble. Of course, there is also a whole big wide world out there to explore!

Oh, and count me in with the no Carnival group. Cruised them one time. It was part of our Honeymoon- we did a split Carnival cruise/WDW trip. We were trapped on a boat with 838 high school seniors on their senior trip- who at age 18 were legal to drink at sea. Carnival did not warn us ahead of time- we did not find out until we were on the boat and had left the dock. It was a few days of listening to kids screaming up and down the halls all night long (they typically quieted down about 4:30 or 5:00 a.m.), drunk kids everywhere day and night, every place that we thought would be fun packed with drunk kids etc. We found my suitcase lying in the middle of the hall around the corner and down the hall from our room because apparently it had fallen off the luggage cart when they were bringing the luggage around and no one noticed. DH got his in the room--but apparently they didn't even realize that they didn't have mine. There was other stuff too - like things that we were supposed to get and didn't and a bad shore excursion. It pretty much ruined me on cruises- I haven't set foot on one since. I'm glad others have had better experiences with them. I'm just glad we at least had WDW for part of our Honeymoon too--- although come to think of it, we stayed at WL (which I love), but they put us in a room over the trash/service area so we got to wake up at 5:30 or 6:00 a.m. every morning to the back up beeps of trucks. That also was not fun- but the rest of WL and WDW was fun! Good thing the honeymoon wasn't a predictor of the marriage!

Capacity is something Disney CAN control. They could:

Properly staff the park so it is running all services, rides and attractions at peak performance.

Build new attractions to pick up the crowds...and build things that eat a lot of people like omnimovers or large theaters, rather than the ridiculously slow loading boat rides like Frozen.

Heck even limiting attendance (will NEVER happen).

Even Disney knows that a 60 minute long line is 60 minutes worth of people not spending money.

I agree about Carnival. I went on NCL for the first time and did a review on it:
http://bit.ly/escapecaribbean I also agree about Epcot. It has just become a place to drink and eat. We went last week 10/10/ to 10/15. I can see why Epcot has turned into a booze festival. Folks seem to love it. But its not what i come for disney for.

I'm giving it a break as well. Using DVC points for Vero and Hilton head. But I have to say this. We've done 3 river cruises in Europe, an ocean cruise of the Mediterranean and cruises of the islands. Everything...and I do mean EVERYTHING that is a tourist attraction is crowded. No escaping it unless you go to an all inclusive resort in a random country on an isolated beach for several thousand a day. =) OK. That's a bit extreme....or is it? Had to wait one hour with hoards of people to get through security and into St Peters Bascilica. Once inside it was elbow to elbow. (They could learn some lessons for Disney for security and queueing!!) Barcelona and even Crotia were the same. We are just a crowded world!!

We have been to WDW three times. This December will be the fourth, and I'm a little bit disappointed in all the talk about construction. I'm sure that there will be plenty to do there, but if this is a "transitional" period for Disney, that really sucks for people like me that only get a decent, 7-day-or-more vacation every 3 or 4 years or so.

Also, last time we went to WDW (in 2008), the entire trip cost a little bit over $3K, including airfare and everything else (we live in Washington state), this time (admittedly, we are going to splurge a little more, but not a lot more), it's going to cost us well over $6K. Between airline prices and the ever-increasing cost of theme park tickets, this may be our last trip to WDW.

Honestly, the same can be said about your post. What, exactly, have you added to the conversation? Nothing. That's what. In your own words, "Guess I just don't get the point of coming onto a WDW forum to say that."

I'm guessing that there's some level or mourning, if you will, when someone decides to stop going somewhere or doing something that they once truly loved. The OP probably posted to share those feelings with other like-minded people. You're part of the DisBoard problem. Choose to be part of the joy instead.

We tried it twice, and have family and friends that have cruised on multiple boats, and nobody walked away with a great experience compared to other cruise lines like Celebrity and Princess.

I do realize that alot of these cruise lines are owned by the same parent, but for us there was a huge distinction in (a) cleanliness, (b) quality of staff and (c) clientle. Please don't treat these comments as bashing anything you've done or any positive experiences you may have hopefully had.

Oh, I definitely don't take it that way. I was just curious. We've cruised Carnival, RCCL, Celebrity, Princess and HAL and while we've never had a really bad cruise, for us the worst one was on Celebrity and the most outstanding one was on Carnival.

I kind of get what @Klayfish is saying, though. There are multiple threads in the community forum saying the same thing.

I'm sorry that OP feels Disney is no longer what it once was. Maybe it would have been better posted in Community, though?

We actually thought it was not crowded on our June 2016 trip...
But I am comparing it to spring break, which is when we usually go.

We also alternate a cruise with WDW as well - one for my wife, one for me ;-)
