has anyone had experience signing up their AS child over 12 for Jedi Training? My 11 yo NT daughter wants to do it this year and my 14 yo AS son has said he wants to do it to. This is the first trip where I have felt he could participate (following directions etc) and I would hate for him to be turned away because he is too old. I know they don't require proof of age but he would pass as 12 and under at 5'9"
Thanks

They do not make exceptions.

1) It would be grossly unfair to other kids (handicapped or not) if they let specific 12-year-olds attend.
2) If they did, then MANY others would try to claim an exemption, and things would rapidly get out of control.
3) Additionally, if they changed the rule, then at what age would they then try to stop entry?
4) As mentioned above, you should try for the daughter and take the son elsewhere during the time she would be engaged.

My son will be 12 in 2 mos and is only 4' 11.5" tall. 12 is 12. My daughter was set to do it last Oct but they closed for refurb right before we got there. She knew it was her only chance, and now she's too old. It's unfortunate, but a good teaching moment.

It's not allowed. And would you really want your AS kid to lie? Besides being a firm believer in karma, I'm under the impression that it really bothers AS kids to lie, to be told to lie, to be tricked, etc.

Do they make age exceptions? No

Do they require proof of age? No

Will they ask your son his age directly? More than likely yes, and quite possibly more than one time.

Are you and he okay and prepared for him to be dishonest? Will sister accidentally 'rat him out'? Are you prepared to deal with the 'ramifications' if they find out at some point he is older than 12 and 'disqualify' him? Only you can decide these things.

I know it's not the same but I took my 14 year old autistic son to an air show a couple of weeks ago. Child tickets are for children 12 and under. I walked up and said "two adults". And the ticket seller said to my son "you're only 12 right?" and my son said "I'm 14" and again the ticket seller said "you're 12, right" and winked. My son again insisted that he was 14. The guy said "I am trying to save your mom money, so say you are 12". And my son said "I'm 14, I don't lie". I know in the case of my son lying even to save mom money isn't something he would do. It's also not something I want him to do.

I think in your situation you just need to explain he's too old for the activity. It sucks but that's what happens in life. I'm sorry he's too old for this event. I totally understand, my son could never do it either. When he was under 12 he just couldn't handle it, now he could but it's not a possibility, so we will find another activity to do. :(

12 year olds can do it. A 14 year old cannot. And you probably can't count on the CM giving him a pass, they are not supposed to. Jedi Training has been very strict on the ages. Your only way is to have him lie about his age if he is asked, and hope they let him participate.

1) Cheating the system is not the way to go.
2) People should stick to the rules.
3) Yes, I know it is sometimes difficult to disappoint the kiddies.
4) But, can you imagine the confusion if everyone tried to please every member of their party.

FWIW, my 12 year old did it last week and felt out of place. He towered over all the other kids ( and he's shirt for his age). It may have just been bad timing but he was years older than everyone else in his class. My 15 year old was a little disappointed at first that she could not sign up until she saw how young everyone else was.

I love how some parents of Spectrum kids rant and rave about wanting their kids to be treated normally and like everyone else and mainstreamed yet want exceptions made because of their status on the Spectrum.

can't have it both ways. if there is an age limit, there is an age limit and it is a PHYSICAL BIOLOGICAL age, NOT a mental or emotional age.

of course if they ever did present an Adult version, we'd be first in line.....

Not for nothing, but your 5'9" 14 year old is probably going to be as tall as the actors playing the roles. There becomes a safety issue when a child that large is swinging his "light saber" at someone. I've seen little kids go after Vader in an aggressive manner, and the CMs have pulled them back. I can't imagine a man sized teenager doing it. They aren't going to let him participate. Even if he were actually 12, they can refuse him due to his physical size.

Has he met Kylo or Chewy in the Launch bay, or traded with the Jawas, or seen the stage show A Galaxy Far Far Away? Rusty Scupper had mentioned if someone could take him somewhere else when your other child is doing JTA so he wouldn't be disappointed and any of those ideas above may be of interest to him. Have fun!

Good point.

My 9 year old was one of the tallest/oldest in her group, there were only a couple of "older" kids, I don't think there was anyone as old as 12 even in their group.

Everyone is correct, unfortunatley :sad2: You may want to take him to meet Kylo Ren and Chewwy to make up for it
