Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE Information & Questions

hello folks. I've stayed at AKL once in May of last year in a regular standard view room, and we ended up being pretty close to the lobby on the 3rd floor with a decent view of sunset savanna, though it was a standard view. I just booked two nights (12/7-9) in an 1 bedroom villa-standard view at Jambo on cash. I am going with my 4 year old twins and my parents. It was a late booking and there were not a lot of room choices left for 5 with a passholder discount, but I am excited for AKL. We are only coming in for the Christmas party the night of the 8th. We get in super late on the 7th, probably 11pm or midnight-ish. Anyway, my Dad has some mobility issues and isn't coming to the party, he will just hang out at the resort for our entire stay. What would you put in for room requests? I guess the priority is to minimize walking for him. Or should I call and have that added? We would love an animal view but I think we would sacrifice that to be closer to the elevators/lobby/pool. Thanks for any advice!

Has anyone tried it during the testing phase? I wonder what the menu is like.

Actually just got the email they are opening for quick service tomorrow - no word on full service.

Now that it has been announced, I got lucky enough to test it (right place, right time). It was good. They have cinnamon rolls, bobattie pie (souffle), mickey waffle and they had a banana bread with nutella-ish spread that looked really good. I have pictures I will put up later. I had the dish with boererwars sausage tomato chutney poached eggs and bacon with tanzian hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were amazing.

Awesome! Were the animals really active in the morning outside of Sanaa?

Great news.

Question for my picky DD. Mara only has a plain cheese pizza on the kids menu for late night dining. Has anyone been able to order this during normal lunch or dinner? TIA.

Checking in to AKL in 19 days. I went in to check my room requests on online check in and they were gone. No bunk bed, partial savannah view or Kudu Trail options. I guess they updated the system again. We are booked in a standard room. Can I call and add these requests to our reservation?

....I think you kind of answered your own question, but I'd add "3rd floor"....you are going to love your holiday stay - the resort is decorated so nicely for the Holidays!

Thanks! Can you believe I actually kind of forgot that the resort would be decorated too? I think the 1-bedrooms aren't on the 3rd floor though. I cant check the available requests online because it's still too far out, I guess that was more what I was asking, if I would need to call or if those things are listed on the new online check in :)

Yes, in Jambo the 1 br. standard view villas will be on Kudu or Zebra trail on the 5th floor. W/ on line check in you might request close to elevator & hope for a close in view of the people pen on Uzima savanna from Zebra trail for easy access to the Mara & pool for your father. I think in your situation I'd call and have your father's mobility issues noted w/ a request for near elevators on Zebra trail. You may end up w/ a pool view, but for such a short stay that might fit your needs best.

I'm looking for reviews from anyone who has eaten breakfast at Sanaa. I realize it's only been open two mornings, but trying to determine if the setting and food is worth the short trek from Jambo (where we'll be staying in two weeks) over simply grabbing a quick breakfast at Mara.

Also, does anyone know how far is it to walk to Sanaa from Jambo?

Here is the quick-service menu, which sounds very similar (identical) to Mara's:
  • Savannah Platter – Two farm fresh eggs any style, tomato chutney, Tanzanian hash browns and bacon
  • Bore Breakfast – Two farm fresh eggs any style, tomato chutney, Tanzanian hash browns, Boerewors sausage and bacon
  • Safari Waffle – Waffle topped with seasonal berries and chai whipped cream
  • Sunrise Sandwich – Egg, ham, and cheddar cheese served on a croissant
  • Fruit Sosatie – With Quinoa and dried fruit salad
  • Kids Explorer Platter – One farm fresh egg any style, hash browns, and bacon
  • Kids Mickey Waffle – Two Mickey waffles and bacon

How is the coffee at AKL? I have dreams of ordering room service and sipping coffee on my balcony in the mornings. We have 3 non park day mornings to enjoy.

Do all standard view rooms with king beds overlook a partial savanna at Jambo? In other words, do any king bed rooms overlook the parking lot? I have reviewed the rooms at touringplans.com and am not sure. I think it would help prevent a view of the parking lot if I requested a king bed room.

I don't remember the coffee at the resort as much as the Pressed coffee pot in Sanaa....Now that was A W E S O M E...

Yum!! I wonder if we can get a press pot through room service.

Hello fellow AKLodgers! We just scored an unbelievable deal on a DVC rental for Kidani Savanna View Studio. Stayed at ALK back in 2009 (pre-kids) but Kidani was still under construction then so I have never even visited. Having a great time reading this thread and re-familiarizing myself with the resort :teacher:

DS is an animal lover and has no idea we are staying there :ssst: :)

Add us to the list for 1/13/17 through 1/21/17...thanks!

Ok, here's a thought. If the breakfast at Sanaa goes over really well, do you think that more people from Jambo will treck over there for it? In return, will the buses possibly be even more full in the mornings before they get to Jambo?

Good morning, all! Just booked a trip for early spring with rented DVC points--so excited! I've been wanting to stay at AKL since it opened. Quick question: does one make room requests at 60-day check-in, or should I call to make a request sooner? Nothing major, my spouse just has limited mobility, so we'd like to be close to an elevator if possible.
