Securing stuff at beach - KYSS vs. SAFEGO vs. ???

Common-sense precautions at CC and the other beaches - don't flaunt your stuff, always keep it nearby and in sight, don't take anything valuable that you don't need, etc. - will probably deter most attempts at theft. However, I'd like something physically secures my stuff yet still keeps it all close at hand (versus, say, a locker).

Very few solutions will stop a very determined thief, but I wouldn't mind something that makes me feel more at ease in turning my back away from my stuff for 5-10 minutes without worrying too much about it.

Are KYSS or SAFEGO (Vacation Vault) worth the $40-$50? Are they more trouble than they are worth? Is there a superior solution?

Thanks.

What sorts of things are you trying to keep safe?

I can only speak to the KYSS bag. It is a basic deterrent for the situation you've described (peace of mind for short periods of time). I don't take it with me every trip, but if I'm going to an unfamiliar port or know I won't have someone near our chairs frequently, I bring it along. As I'm sure you've seen online, it's really just a sturdy bag with a locking chain - you lock the bag itself, then lock the entire bag to a sturdy or immovable object. Anyone intent on getting into your bag (and with the right tool) could cut fairly easily cut the bag fabric, or cut through the chain. As for being trouble, the chain is a bit bulky and heavy, but not so bad as to make it not worthwhile if it gives you a little peace of mind, IMO. I like having even though I don't use it often, so I don't consider it a waste of money. Others may disagree. Hope this helps a little!

The stuff you probably expect - iPhones, cameras, passports, KTTW cards, credit cards, cash. The cash and cards I could keep in those little watertight containers you can wear around your neck, but the other stuff is too big for that.

If a beach area has lockers available, that's great. But not all of them do, and it'd be nice either way to be able to keep your phone or camera close by for when a good photo op arises.

Well, no lockers on Castaway Cay, but can't say for sure about any other beach areas.

Things like KTTW card, credit cards, and even cash can get wet. My husband and I just put those things in our swimsuits while we're in the water. And my camera is a waterproof one, so it stays with me. We don't bring our passports ashore generally, just our driver's license for ID, and that goes with the KTTW card & credit card.

If you feel that the other stuff needs to stay put onshore, you need to either have a designated "baby sitter" for the items or go for whatever bag/security system makes you comfortable, whatever the cost is.

I was originally going to order the Kyss bag but now I'm leaning towards the Safego. We have one cell phone, ID, credit cards and cash...which looks like it will fit nicely and then I can use my regular beach bag for my towels and a few sand toys for the boys. I'm guessing a theif won't want my towels!

I have a KYSS and love it. I use it as a tote not only at the beach. I have taken it to ports with me and have no issue with locking it around the chair I use at a restaurant. That way I don't have to rely on DH to 'watch my bag' if I wish to go to the ladies room or be constantly checking (as I do with my purse) to make sure its still there. I don't have the large one, only the medium, and its still big enough to put beach towels in or purchases from stores, as well as my valuables.
As was mentioned earlier it is only a deterrent. If someone wants in your bag they will get in however they are going to have to take the time to either cut through the bag (its a very thick material) or cut through the chain. Both would take a while and I don't think a thief would bother to spend time doing that when they could walk a further 10 feet and quickly pick up someone else bag that is not chained down.
I have thought about purchasing a small KYSS bag, that's how much I love it.

Found this on Amazon. Looks like it would be handy for 1-2 ppl.

One issue we have is that we have three kids under 16, so we have to use passports instead of driver's licenses for them to get on/off the ship. Our iPhones are our cameras, and we don't have LifeProof cases, so we need a "leave-behind" option when we go in the water.

Under 16 doesn't require a photo ID.

Hmm. It seems they have always asked for our kids' passports or other supporting documentation when we get on/off at St. Thomas and St. Martin - i.e., their KTTW cards alone were not good enough. Perhaps I am misremembering it.

I have a KYSS bag (medium size) that I have yet to use. I bought it for Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, but since we go with friends and someone always hangs out I have not used it. I am sure at some point I will though. It is a very nice bag and seems durable and definitely large enough for lots of stuff. :) That could be another reason I don't carry it....I don't bring a lot of stuff with me and like to travel light. lol

Well, they might ask, but it's not required. Actually it says in the Navigator 18 and over needs the photo ID:
