7DMT...impossible?

I was unable to get a FP for 7DMT in May and we never saw a wait less than an hour for it, even during a downpour that lasted 2 hours. I am not able to get a FP for it for my upcoming trip in 2.5 weeks either. I am going to a MNSSHP, do you think I will be able to ride it without standing in line for an hour during the party? I am just not sure it's an hour's worth of fun, but I would like to see what all the fuss is about. I won't be doing any characters, just rides and the fireworks and maybe 1 parade.

I also rode right before closing. It's like a 20 minute wait but the sign out front said 70! Don't believe the posted wait times at close!

We've also had success riding at closing -- like getting in line one minute before closing. Wait has always been much shorter than what was posted.

Two years ago I couldn't get a FP for 7DMT. So I waited until the evening parade got started and then I went to it. The time was listed at 70 minutes. I walked into the queue stopping a couple of times to play with the interactive things, and walked basically directly to the ride. Had to wait a few minutes and got on. The total time I spend from entering the queue to walking out after the ride was 20 minutes. Or it might even work for the 3 o'clock parade, I didn't try then so I don't know. There is more then one way to fit on a ride, and some are very simple.

Stand-by moves much faster during parties since there is no FP line slowing it down. I waited around 20 min during a Christmas party last year late in the night. That said, near to close, if you stay that late, as suggested above is the best strategy to not waist any party time.

I agree that the answer everyone else has given is probably the "best" one. A few other things to consider. Check the FP+ system several times a day. People add and drop stuff all the time, you may luck into a 7DMT FP+. We've done it. I also agree with the above post that just looking at the line is a good gauge of how long it will really be. Third, I'd suggest getting the Lines app. I've found it to be more realistic of wait times than MDE (which reflects what's posted at the ride entrance). MDE is very conservative, which I'd assume is done on purpose. A posted 60 minute wait may actually only be 40.

late at night is the best time to ride. The later you can make it in the park the shorter the wait will be. Like others have said sometimes it'll say it's an hour plus wait late at night when really it's just 20 or 30 min.

When we walk by it, we've ridden it quite a bit so I'll judge by where the line is it. If the line goes out the gate or is right to the gate where the entrance is, then it's going to be about an hour wait. If the line is up closer to the interactive games then it's closer to 30 min

After the first time not getting a FP and watching those insane line times, we came to the conclusion that the only time to get on it was to be absolutely first at rope drop or wait until the bitter end and it's always worked out perfectly!

Make it the last ride at closing, get in line 10 minutes or so before closing and then you are not missing anything. Plus, by the time you get off the ride the crowds will be gone:)
Our fp window isn't open yet, so we don't know what to expect (I am guessing it'll be hard to find fp for a whole 8 people though), but my DH, sister and I are planning on getting in the standby line last thing at the Halloween party. If for no other reason than because we want to see what the queue is like.

Walked on at closing on our last trip during the craziness of mid-March. Wasn't planning to do it...but got through BTMR much faster than we expected and decided to hotfoot it across the park. We were just about the last ones in line and it was awesome. Last train of the night!!! It was maybe a 15-20 min wait then.

Toward the end of the night the line will likely be shorter.

We rode during a parade at MVMCP and waited maybe 5-10 minutes. But we also got super lucky, we were in line for Big Thunder and I pulled up the app and clicked to change my FP+ and to my shock 7DMT showed up, with a time window starting in 10 minutes. I had tried that periodically during the trip, and it finally paid off.

I was able to get it after using my initial 3 FP's several times during the last 2 weeks. Just keep refreshing by checking different times and grab whatever time that comes up and modify from there.

Thank you for all the tips and strategies! There are some great ideas on here. I will get on there one way or another this time! :)

I agree with the others. Disney regularly inflates wait times, especially near the end of the night. I've also had similar experiences with Space Mountain, where a 70-minute posted wait near closing is actually 15-20.

You can try to see if you can get a 4th fastpass for later in the day for the attraction. I have been able to achieve this for 7DMT several times. It seems people cancel later in the day. Also as others have said the wait time is never what is posted towards the end of the night. Last week for example around closing the posted wait was 50 min actual wait was 15.
