This (DISNEY)land Was Made For You and Me - July 2016 Weight Loss and Lifestyle Change Challenge

I am back!! Sorry for being away for so long!! Michael and I went to Prague (what an amazing city!!!) for a few days at the beginning of last week and when I got back it was so difficult to get back into my routine. I still have not stepped on the scale again. But I started running again (I missed it sooo much!!). I still don't have my new inserts, but the foot feels great at the moment and I feel that since the tendon has healed a little running cannot hurt. I am also kind of on track with the eating.

But I feel like I put on 6 pounds over the last 10 days and do not dare to step on the scale... I finally got my thyroid levels tested. Need to call later today to find out about the results. Part of me wants to hear that I need a higher dosage of the medication because that would explain my difficulties losing weight the last two months. But part of me does not want to hear that because I rather want to not have a very crappy thyroid...

QOTD:
I have experienced DLP and WDW at Christmas and loved both experiences. At WDW my favourite were the Epcot storytellers. We will be back at WDW this year during the Christmas season and I am very much looking forward to Epcot to catch some more of the storytellers! DLP has a lovely little Christmas calvacade and a beautiful tree lighting cermony. The one thing I did not enjoy was that the parks are playing Christmas music instead of their usual sound track, I really missed the normal back ground music!
I also loved our Very Merrytime cruise on the Disney Fantasy. The ship was beautifully decorated and they had some really cute Christmas themed events going on. Elsa even came and made it snow in the atrium of the ship!

Wow that many people lined up to complain! I get they are disappointed but Disney can't control the weather o_O

I was thinking the same thing! At first I thought the line was for a rare character but we got to talking with the cast member when we returned our stroller and they said it was people wanting a refund because the parade got cancelled even though they had the first one. I asked him if they gave refunds even though they say on the tickets no rain checks etc and he wouldn't say yes but hinted around that they want to make the guests happy. IMO there is no way waiting in that line would have been worth what they gave me.

Week 3 Results.

You guys are rockin' it. Only 1 more week to go and then I'll be sending out Disney pins to those who achieved 100%!

Note: I think I may have missed a few, especially since I forgot to post last week. So if these are wrong, please PM me so I see the message and I'll fix it in my master spreadsheet.

July 26 - Mickey and the Magical Map

The stage show so tucked away that you may miss it.

Mickey and the Magical Map is an awesome stage show that is filled with dancing, face characters, and cool special effects. It's a beautiful
stage show and is sadly not promoted enough that you may miss it.It's tucked away behind It's A Small World towards Toon Town...
so it is quite possible that unless you actually were looking for it that you missed it.

So what is it about?

Mickey's a sorcerer's apprentice to a map maker and soon gets sucked into a magical map that takes him to different
lands / places featuring Disney characters. His guide is "Spot", a rambunctious ink blot that interacts with Mickey.

It's 22 minutes of magic! A great way to rest your legs and enjoy a beautiful stage show with dancing, singing, and awesome effects.

July 26 - Question of the Day
Mickey and the Magical Map boasts Disney Songs galore that put you into a great mood!
Listening to music can help your workout routines go faster - so let's talk about music.

Are there any particular Disney-themed songs you listen to on a regular basis?
What about workout music -- share your top 5 favorite songs to run/exercise to. Maybe we can build a new playlist!

Bonus: Have you seen Mickey and the Magical Map? If not, are you planning to soon?

I am at 77.5%. I put it at the bottom of my long post on Sunday. I am sure it was easy to miss. No big deal.

I do not have a workout playlist. I just put my county station on Pandora. I tend not to listen much though because I get lost in thought a lot.

I have never been to the show but it sounds like one we would love. Hopefully it will still be around when ever I get my husband to agree to go.

I love listening to Disney music, especially the villain themes. But what really gets me pumped? "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Mulan. It's the perfect pre-half marathon pump you up song. Plus it's Donny Osmond singing and it's just... all over perfect. :)

I've recently updated my running playlist with songs that have a BPM that achieves an average of a 12.5 minute mile - so the beats will keep me on track. I've noticed I've been running faster because of it! Here's the site in case you want to start building your own list: https://jog.fm/
  • The Walker -- by Fitz and the Tantrums
  • Reach Up For the Sunrise -- by Duran Duran
  • Blue (da ba dee) - by Eiffel 65
  • Fade Away -- by Electric Youth
  • When Can I See You Again --- by Owl City (aka: the Paint the Night song)
  • I Remember -- DeadMau5

So I have some songs that average about a 13 minute mile and others that are about 11.5 minute mile songs. I usually use them for pacing and average about a 12.5 minute mile when I run...

I've been trying to mentally prepare for Dumbo Double Dare in about a month and I think I'm going for a 1:18 10K time and a 3:15 finish for the half. I want to push myself on the 10K, as it looks like we're hitting the Anaheim Convention Center in lieu of the two freeway overpasses off Harbor. In short, it's a flatter, faster course. I won't exhaust myself in the first 2 miles trying to weave around people and getting over hills.

I usually am watching TV, but when I need a few more minutes to hit my hour (if the show runs short), I've been putting on Adele's Send My Love to get me hyped for the last few minutes. Love that song!

Bonus: LOVED that show. The effects are awesome!

Such a neat concept!

Such a neat concept!

Isn't it though? I was blown away at how the music I was listening to was slowing me down. Searching by artist allowed me to see what songs were "slow" and then doing it by time really showcased what I should be listening to. If I am going to be listening to music for 4 hours (3:15 for the half and 45 minutes waiting to run out the chute) I'd better have stuff that won't slow me down :P

We've discovered a new race tradition: enter your corral as it gets closer to the start line. We noticed standing around wiating for 45 minutes exhausted us too much. Instead, waiting by the start and sneaking in at the last possible minute allowed us to rest and be ready to go for a better race/

I have not seen that show. I wonder if it's at WDW. I need to start getting my plans together for our trip, so I'll look it up.

I have already been on the treadmill today, yay me. :) I don't listen to music while I walk, I usually listen to books. My husband listens to audiobooks like crazy, so we usually have a pretty good selection. Right now I am listening to the last Harry Potter. It's perfect because I already know the story, mostly, so I can stop it and start it every day without really losing track of what's going on.

I tried to make a Disney playlist on Amazon Prime Music, but it ended up being instrumental only or sung by the wrong people. I'll have to try again. I would really like the songs that we recognize. My weekly average, after yesterday is 9925, so I am almost back where I should be. I'll do extra again today!

Thanks for posting that link! I am so excited for DDD too! It is so awesome that the course is flatter than Tink. I am still not sure what my strategy is other than finish lol.

We usually listen to Disney music when we are in the car as a family. When I run I tend to listen to songs that are "my" music and not necessarily things I want little ears to hear. Here is my top 5

1. Break the Ice by Britney Spears (not usually a Britney fan but for some reason when I am running it pumps me up)

2. Immortals by Fall Out Boy, I guess that is a Disney song from Big Hero 6

3. So What by P!nk

4. Renegades by X Ambassadors

5. Fight Song by Rachel Platten

Bonus: I have not seen Mickey and the Magical Map but now it is on my list :)

Tink was supreme bottlenecking out the chute - I was so disappointed that I had to run in the planters and through the Gas Station to get around the walkers. I am really excited about running through the Convention Center.

Hoping for a letter "C" (at least) for the 10K and maybe a D or E for the Half. I am actually nervous since they started the 2:45 time requirement. I submitted a POT of a 1:21 10k, which I think is about a 2:50 half marathon. So we'll see :P

We are going to be close cause my 10k POT was 1:19 and I was in D for the Tink half using the same POT.

The only time I listen to Disney music is when I have to call them for trip stuff... It's fun for the first 5 minutes of waiting, but after that not so much.

I'm currently stuck on playing Carrie Underwood's Storyteller while I'm walking. This morning I briefly thought about switching to Adele, since she's in town, but couldn't do it. I listen to about 9 of the songs while I'm doing my early morning laps around the office.

The only disney themed song I listen to on a regular basis is "Celebrate You" (they used to play it when the parks opened a few years back). Its on my running playlist. I think it was one of the first songs on my running playlist actually when I was training for my first Tink Half! My top 5 songs to run to are currently:

Light em Up - Fall out boy
Stronger - Kelly Clarkson
Titanium - dont know who its by
Right Round - Flo Rida
Ready, Set, Roll - Chase Rice

Bonus: Have you seen Mickey and the Magical Map? If not, are you planning to soon?
I have and I really like it! We missed it this passed summer cause it was only playing on the weekend and I think the day we had time to watch it was a Wednesday or something like that. I'm was surprised that they weren't showing it every day!

I realized this too last year! Now I may enter my corral 45 minutes early still BUT I find a spot on the curb and sit until I'm forced to move up or they start singing the National Anthem. I figure the less time I"m physically on my feet, the better!

I don't have many Disney songs on my phone, but there are a couple. If I need a Disney pick me up, I go with Belle from Beauty and the Beast. It got stuck in my head during a Disney trip a few years ago and I always associate it with the parks and fun w/ the family.

As for my running soundtrack, I have about 70 songs that I just put on shuffle. I grew up with 80's and 90's R&B, so there is a lot of that mixed with everything else.

I've been fixated with Coldplay recently. Ever since the show last Thursday I don't think I've listened to anything else. As I told my wife, the Coldplay concert for me was very much like a Disney trip. I was just blown away by the show. So, my last few runs have all been helped by Chris Martin and co. Here are some of my favorites to run to from them:

Charlie Brown
A Head Full of Dreams
Every Teardrop is a Waterfall
Hymn for the Weekend
Adventure of a Lifetime
A Sky Full of Stars
Lost+ (with Jay-Z)

The only negative is some of them have either a slow start or finish (or both), but once they kick in they've been working for me. I'm sure I'll run them into the ground soon.
