Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Next June, we will have to FP whatever show they have then...lol. I had thought about TH BF again but we are skipping the DDP and my kids just don't eat enough to justify the cost.

We were so back in forth about the DP this trip ... at first just the second half (which wouldn't have helped with Tusker anyway), then we contemplated whole trip, and just this week we decided none at all. (We actually crunched some numbers and for the 8 of us, we will likely come out at least $1000 ahead by NOT using the DP ... and that's including taxes (which DP covers) and not counting any DVC discounts I might be able to use. We still plan on a QS and a TS most days, but are trying a bunch of new places (for us anyway).

I think in the end we will save money, too. But honestly, even if we don't, I still prefer to not do it because we can eat the way we want to. I tend to be a grazer and that's hard to do on the DDP. Also, like I mentioned, my boys ate practically nothing except what I brought in for them. We also still plan on a QS and TS most days, but I have cut out some of the character buffets as those tend to cost more and the boys have to pay full price for eating fruit loops or a Mickey waffle.

Hey there, how's everyone doing? I'm excited for everyone who has trips coming up! As a local I miss being excited about arriving on property and that first bus ride to the parks in the morning and all the 'vacation' stuff.

I hadn't heard about the DHS EMM, good to know. I know plenty of people don't like the paid EMM because they worry about Disney taking away free EMH for onsite guests, but I like them. We tried the one at MK and had a great time! I'll have to take a look at the dates for DHS and see if they'll work for us.

We just got back from a trip to Hawaii, including a week at Aulani. It was beautiful, I'd highly recommend going if given the opportunity, and Grayson got to meet Mickey!

Way too cute!!

@ArielSRL ... totally agree that even if we didn't save money, the freedom of not being on the DP suits us better. We Since we are no longer trying to maximize our credits, the only character meal we are doing is Chef Mickey breakfast on departure day, which has kind of become a tradition the past few trips.

@KateP85, that photo is adorable ... clearly another Disney fan In your family!

He's so cute and he's getting so big!

oops I'm getting excited because MK hours were just extended for us and one is an EMH night until 2. I'm happy my dh won't be LOL. The next day is a sleep in day so tough luck too bad. I was going to edit my previous post but I want to see 700 pages before I leave:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::cool1::banana::cheer2:

Oh my gosh, I can't believe how much ROLF has grown! What a sweetie! Love that he smiles at Mickey...my DD (now 38) was scared to death of characters in costumes...especially the ones with those really big heads...

We experienced our first evening EMH at MK on our trip a few weeks ago. On our previous trips, either the kids were too young to stay out that late or it just didn't logistically fit in our plans. This year was perfect. The youngest "kid" was 11; the next morning was already a planned sleep-in morning with no real plans until 3:00 in the afternoon; plus, the night of the EMH we had a late dinner at CRT. We knew we'd be able to take a nice break that afternoon, head to CRT for our 8:15 ADR and then stay in the park until 2:00 a.m. Everyone was really excited about it. Well...DH decided he was tired and headed back to the resort around 10:30. The other "adults" (ages 30, 27, 26, & 18) decided they were tired and left around 11:45. It ended up being me and the 16 & 11 yo's who stayed until 2:00 a.m. But we *loved* it. Got on a bunch of rides; saw the Kiss Goodnight; and enjoyed the emptiness of the park. I will definitely plan to do it again....regardless of what the other wimps in the family decide. :D

Just to let you know it's less than 2 weeks for us. Most of the packing is done and today I'm baking and freezing food for the ride down. It's getting so real I can almost taste it or the blueberry and bananas I just got finished baking. 6 dozen in total some for today and some for the road.

We're on roughly the same timeframe, but still a bit too soon to start packing for us (we're more the day or two in advance type).

Goal for today is to figure out our Garden Grocer order and make a list of non-perishables we will bring down with us.

(One of the unexpected perks of of DVC is how much we actual enjoy breakfast in our villa ... we can get going early as needed, but we're not exactly morning people!)

I'm in the dilemma of over or underestimating the Garden Grocer.

We didn't get our order done today (planned a family BBQ for next weekend instead). Guess GG order is now tomorrow's priority.

FWIW, we tend to underestimate since the resort shops do carry some staples (milk, bread, etc.) if we run out. Also, we fly so don't really have the option of bringing a bunch of left overs back with us.

When you can't sleep you can at least be productive .......so I'm pushing it to the TOP of the page!
