The (Foodie)Force is Strong with Us...a Feb/Mar 2016 trip! THE END - NEW 9/13 Disneyland TR link!

PTR Update 7/14 - Disneyland Trip - Not the news I was looking for.

So in anticipation of our Disneyland Trip from Sept 5 - 9, I'd been booking my ADRs and getting ready to get some park plans in place. It's so hard when they haven't released park hours yet. I've also heard news that the parks will open later on those days, so while at WDW I'm used to a 9am or 8am opening, at DLR they are saying for late Aug/Sept it may be 10am to 8pm or something like that. Hmm, that is interesting. That means EMH won't start before 9am. That gives us some time to book some breakfasts before the parks open. I was hoping the park would be open earlier because coming from the East coast we'll be up really early and would get geared up, ready to go by 7am. Imagine how much we'd get done! But since official hours will not be released for our dates for another week I can only wait to see before I start scheduling additional meals.

There is also some very bad news regarding ride closures...it looks like Hyperspace Mountain will be closed for our trip. I mean, pretty much ALL of our trip. There was an official notice about the new Halloween festivities for DLR, and one of them is Ghost Galaxy, all starting on Sept 9th. This means they will need to change the interior overlay of Space Mountain from the Star Wars theme to the Halloween theme. I've asked around the DL boards and they said it usually takes 4 days to do so, which puts it at 9/5 for the start of the closure. I'm really upset by this because Hyperspace mountain was one of the reasons I was determined to book a DLR trip this year. SAD!! There is no official notice as to Hyperspace Mountain's eminent closure, but most likely that is when it is going to happen. I guess I should have known and going the week of labor day was kind of risky. But nonetheless I am really sad about this. We arrive in California 9/2 but wasn't planning to be in the parks until 9/5 and just for a half day at that, it would really hinder our plans to switch everything around.

The only thing that may be possible is if the ride is still open on labor day itself (9/5) then maybe we can catch it. That will mean leaving DH's parent's house really early in the morning, drive about 2 hours to Anaheim and make 9/5 a full park day. Not a big deal, but that means we spend less time with DH's parents.
OR
I could shift our days so that we're visiting DLR first and then spend time with DH's parents at the end of the trip, but this poses some challenges as all our hotel bookings have to be shifted. It would cost more as weekend rates cost more. Also Chunkysis's flight does not arrive until the afternoon of 9/5, so she'd either have to pay to change her flight to a few days earlier, or she'd keep her flight and have a few solo days at the end of the trip considering DH and I would have used up some days of our park hopper. This plan just doesn't make sense cost and scheduling wise. Bummer.

Also I have heard that the end of Paint The Night is 9/5 as well. We have the Paint The Night dinner package at Blue Bayou booked on this date. It is not offered on any date after 9/5 so I we will probably only get to watch it once. So I think I will keep the package after all as that night might be super crowded once people know it's the last parade.

Sooo. No Hyperspace Mountain, no Paint The Night for the rest of the trip, no Halloween celebrations...seems like DLR will be a ghost town when we are there.

I am going to go cry in my Star Wars pillows now ...Waaaaah.

Yeah the end of summer is always risky with ride closures, setting up for Halloween etc. Grrrrr!! Since we're there the week before you we are also looking at earlier hours, 10-9, 10-8. Sucks because - hello - less park time! But means we get a good rest, have a good breakfast and have no excuse not to get to the parks for rope drop! Also means no breaks during the day so that we make the most of all park days. We also will only have one opportunity for PTN, on Sept 1st, so I'm super glad we also booked a dining package (Aladdin on the go).

Ugh, I hope things work out and maybe you'll catch the very end of Hyperspace Mountain somehow (and maybe even the Ghost Galaxy's opening?) I guess I am an optimist. Hoping for the best for you. So glad you are catching that last PtN from a reserved area, though!

Some of the rumors say that Paint the Night might be moving to MK. So, maybe you will get to see it again. Sorry about the DLR stuff. It will still be a cool trip though.

Boo, hiss to all the bad news! That totally stinks. :(

I know...I was so looking foward to Hyperspace Mountain...and now we may not be able to ride any version of Space Mountain at all!:sad::sad:

I don't even know if WoC will still be going on...I would not be surprised if they pull the rug from under us and left us with no shows to watch...:sad::sad:
Thank you Disney for what could be the most unmagical trip of all! I will drown my sorrows in food. And my Star Wars pillows.:sad::sad:

That does totally stink..but...the bright side...maybe crowds will be less? Trying to think of a positive...

Thanks, I think that will probably be the case considering EVERYTHING IS CLOSED. Well, everything that mattered to me anyways. WAAAAAH :sad::sad:

Thanks for the optimism! I really doubt I'll catch any hypserspace...or any version of the mountain. Possibility of Ghost Galaxy. But I don't want Ghost Galaxy, I want Hyperspace! *Throws immature adult tantrum on floor while everyone points and stares*:rotfl:
LOL. I have resigned to the fact that this trip will not be the trip I had initially planned, but I guess I'll go drown my sorrows every day at Trader Sams or something...:sad::sad:

Well, that may be a consolation, I guess it would replace the electrical parade? I hope for a cool trip, but am bummed about hyperspace.:sad::sad:

Ugh! bummer. bright side would be, you have reason to revisit sooner than later. :rolleyes2

I hope so! I hope they bring back hyperspace mtn. But I also know I won't be able to get to California that frequently.:sad::sad:

Wahh! Well, I hope you get a lil extra pixie dust! Sometimes Disney will surprisingly & miraculously have things open that were scheduled closed or add some EMH.... :tinker:

I don't think WOC will be affected at all (though it might not run every night?) But they don't do anything Halloween-related at DCA so you should be able to catch WOC at some point.

What a bummer about closure timing, but I'm so glad you'll get to at least catch Paint the Night once. I've heard it's amazing! I was at DLR at almost exactly the same time for my honeymoon two years ago, and we missed seeing the Haunted Mansion because it was down for the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. It was still such an awesome trip...I'm sure you guys will still have a great time! :)

A new PTR for a new WDW trip!!

I know I sound really bummed and bitter after the recent DLR news but I have come to accept the fact that we may not be able to ride or see all the things we really wanted to. It sucks, but there is nothing we can do at this point. :sad:I know it's not the end of the world, but it's really me just venting after being let down when the last few months I've been so excited. Well, let's see how this trip turns out. Will it suck? Will it be great? I'm curious too. I guess you will find out in my TR when we return in September! :thumbsup2

On a happy note, I did something that I thought I'd never do in my lifetime, I signed DH and Myself up for the DISNEY PRINCESS 5K in February 2017!! So we're going back to WDW in February!!

party:party:party:

You might wonder if we are runners. DH is a sometimes runner. He's done a handful of 5Ks his lifetime, nothing longer, but ME? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I despise running. I don't even like walking all that much. But I am determined to do this for a few reasons: it seems like a whole new way to experience Disney, I definitely would like to get healthy in the process, I want a Run Disney medal, and well, it allows us to go back to DISNEY WORLD FOR MY BIRTHDAY...AGAIN!!

:jumping1:

I would really like to give this a shot even though I'll be walking for most of it. I never really had much of an endurance for running and I have all sorts of knee and foot pain, but I want to try running at least a bit of it. I guess it is time to lose that belly that Anna so kindly pointed out and get in shape. :rotfl:

I am trying to convince Chunkysis to participate too. I think it'll be good for her. Plus, think of all the characters she can meet on the course! But she is pretty much not interested. I even said we could dress up like princesses! She asked which princess I'd be and I blurted out, Pocahontas! She said she'd think about it. I'm still working on her!

OMG what did I just do...I signed up for a 5k?!?!? :eek::eek::eek:
AND I agreed to run it dressed like Pocahontas???:eek::eek:

I will probably have a little PTR for this at some point because I don't know the first thing about the Run Disney races. If anyone has any tips about Run Disney, or running in general (for beginners) please let me know!

Hey, I'm doing the Wine & Dine 5k next year for my 45th birthday. I have never done a run either and hate running. DH is going to do the half, since he has done a marathon before. I just want to do it to get into AK without all of the people. I need to train a bit. I am hoping to be able to run most of it. Good luck with yours. It will be a blast. I bet your costume will be really cool too.

I completely understand about DLR. For us, when/if we do go, it will be a once in a blue moon kind of trip. I mean, we don't even go to Disney once a year and we live 7 hours away. So I would be fairly upset if things were closed. I know there is always a good possibility that something will be closed but I can still be upset about it, right??

I think signing up for a Disney 5K is awesome! If I wasn't a teacher and could get time off during the school year, I'd definitely do it. And I'm not a runner either. I have done 5Ks in the past but never on a consistent basis or anything. Currently I am at my highest weight ever, except for when I was pregnant, and I HAVE GOT to get myself in gear so I only wish I could do a Disney 5k. Perfect motivation! :) I think you have just inspired me to add it to my bucket list!

I think you will still have an amazing time at Disneyland. I really loved it there and want to go back. There are so many things to do, a couple closures shouldn't derail everything.

Wow, congrats on another Disney trip and good luck with the 5K. I am not a runner AT ALL, so I'm with you there, but I do really love walking...but I still have zero interest in ever signing up for one of these. :rotfl: I hope you have a great time, though!

I share your pain about Hyperspace Mountain :( We are there from Sep 19th to 27th, and I was kind of hoping they wouldn't do Ghost Galaxy this year since Hyperspace is relatively new. I really don't enjoy the Ghost Galaxy overlay and I know my younger kids will hate it. Our youngest was going to ride Space for the first time this trip also but I'm thinking she shouldn't as I think it will scare her off of it forever!!!

Could you maybe have a day at Disneyland the first day you arrive in LA or stay overnight and go the next day, then stay at DH's parents for an extra day before heading back to DL??

You'll do great. I'm not a runner but am a walker. I walked a marathon and half marathon one weekend. I never thought I'd be able to do it.......but I did. Everyday you are at disney you are walking a 5k, so you've had plenty of experience! Think of it this way, it's about 3 times around World Show Case.....a piece of cake.

It's Saturday night in the summer. Must be time to get a bit caught up on trip reports!

I always love reading about EPCOT, especially updates where lots of samples of food happen!

Mexican Donald is really cute!

The shrimp taco looks veeerrryyy good.

I want a table with an aquarium in it!

The Flower & Garden shirt you got for your DH is perfect.

That is really cool that you stumbled on the Disney training grounds for characters.

I really enjoyed your recap of Behind the Seeds. I did this tour in January. I haven't started writing about it yet, I'm a couple of updates away, and I'm starting to forget a lot of the tour!

We didn't do the spice/seed ID. I would have rocked at that. I cook a lot and I have over 100 different spices in my cabinet, which hangs off my pantry door.

Wow, not too many people on the ride right now.

PTR Update 7/14 - Disneyland Trip - Not the news I was looking for.

Oh, no!!! Major bummer!

It is really frustrating when you are trying to plan and the info is so vague or delayed.

I hope you can work something out for the things you want to see on the trip.

Aren't they so pretty and colorful? On the left we have Schweitzer Slush: Frozen Apple Juice and Passion Fruit topped with Bursting Green Apple Boba Balls. On the right we have Punch Line Punch: with Tropical Fruit Juices and Mango Purée. They were both good but the Punch Line Punch was exceptionally good because I love mango!

I love all of these shots of the castle. The lamp looks like a full moon in the first one. Great photopass picture, too.

YUM- The drinks sound fantastic. Bet they were refreshing. Sorry the rest of the meal didn't blow you away. Adventurous doesn't scare me, so I was intrigued, but the reviews I have read about Skipper's have mostly been tepid, along the lines of not worth the price.

YAY for a meet-up with Topdog! I'm glad you were able to work that out.

:thumbsup2
