High School Class of 2016/College Class 2020

Thank you...and it's one of her top choices. Now we wait financial aid.

Congratulations to your DD!!!

LOL - one of my DD's acceptances came in a box and my DD was so excited to open it. In addition to her congrats and merit offer (along with all the other paperwork) there was also a Frisbee and pair of sunglasses with the university name on them. She was thrilled :)
Oh how adorable!

So, has anyone else had to go on College Board IDOC and upload financial paperwork? Two of DD's schools have requested our tax returns, W2s, and DD's signed statement that she didn't have to file.

We had a tough time getting the forms to load and making sure files uploaded. The financial paperwork seems never ending!!!

Yes. We have to do this but I'm still waiting on my w2 forms. DH's job changed processing places in October so I only have half his income accounted for right now. There's no way I can make the February 15 deadlines.

How exciting that decisions are being made and acceptances are rolling in!!! And thanks for the info on the art schools- I was genuinely curious:) It seems so much more personal where art is concerned...
This time next week we will be in CO checking out her reach school-she has already received a personal phone call and set up a financial aid meeting. This school really will be dependent on what aide she can get and hopefully not have to do tens of thousands in loans. We were talking about financial aspects tonight in fact. College is quite a bit more expensive than when I went...

Finances are not our main consideration, but obviously money will make a difference in her final decision. D is very frugal so that part will be easy.

Dd is in to 5 schools already and is waiting on 5 more. Two are crazy reaches academically and financially, I think she just wanted to see if she could get in. SUNY Binghamton was her least competitive school and she heard back from them in Dec. this week we found out she was accepted into their scholars program, and the freshman immersion program where 30 com sci and engineering students work with faculty to solve real world problems. That with the in state tuition and the fact that they will take all of her AP credits is starting to make the school look better and better. She's a bit worried about name recognition, but there is always grad school for that.i think being the big fish in the little pond might really work for her there.

I didn't know you were supposed to send a letter of acceptance to a college. I'm assuming you send a letter to the other schools you don't choose as well?

I know where you are coming from! DD applied to 7 schools, only one in state, and that one is 3 hours away from us. If she decides on the farthest away (her #1 choice), she will be almost 11 hours from home. We have had an' empty nest' since the beginning of junior year because she lives at boarding school 150 miles away, but if she goes THAT far away, we will probably only see her a few times a year. She is an only, so we are going to be truly alone once she leaves.

Wow- I'm making myself sad.
I can't imagine. Dh told dd 4hrs was too far away

DD is still intent upon pursuing her degree in teaching. She's been interning as a student teacher for different classes, this term for a class with learning disabilities. She's been getting very good feedback and reviews and still says there's nothing else she's interested in doing. She's been approached by several teachers interested in having her intern in their classes in one of her free hours. She's insistent upon starting her gen ed at the community college and transferring into her preferred school after a year or two. I understand why that can be a really smart plan, but I'm struggling because I think she'll miss out on a lot.
That's one reason we aren't doing cc. So many kids move off campus as juniors, so if you moved on campuses then you'd be the old one.

Fingers crossed that my not so loving school DS gets into our community college. We told him if he does really well there for 2 years, he will be accepted by one of very good state schools to get his 4 year degree. He is our first, so lots of changes for our family.
Our local cc accepts everyone

Frustrated that dd couldn't get into the state school that her cousin with her GED did. Wish they gave bonus points for finishing highschool over dropping, out, but it doesn't work that way.

But it's for the best, cause she's almost decided on the best school for her anyway.

I will tell you that the some of the "state" schools here in NJ are hard to get into - my DD has a friend who had a 4.0, was on the winning football team, on student council, a Peer Mentor but yet got denied into Rutgers and TCNJ but got into Ohio State and Univ. of South Carolina.

It is so hard to figure out what a school looks and doesn't look for in a student. Perhaps it is the field of study they want to pursue or other factors? As for schools tough to get into, I think that is true in any state. You peeked my interest though and I looked at Rutgers and TCNJ and their acceptance rate. TCNJ is very tough to get into with a 46% acceptance rate... The acceptance rate at Rutgers though at 60.9% is easier to get into than Ohio State which is at 55.9%.. At least statistically speaking based on acceptance rates.

As for Ohio State... It is official, I am completely surprised that my DD has decided to pass on attending The University of Ohio State. She received her acceptance letter a couple of weeks ago along with a few other schools but has decided instead of the big campus experience of Ohio State she would much rather attend the small and intimate campus of the University of Mount Union. MU is an excellent private college and is known nationally by many as being the best division III football team in the country. Since 1993 they have won 12 national championships and currently have produced Pierre Garcon and Cecil Shorts currently in the NFL along with coach Dom Capers. But beyond athletics, it is an excellent school.

My daughter wants to pursue a dual major in Japanese and International Business and has been accepted and offered some scholarship money to attend MU. The school also offers some scholarship money if a student would like to be a member of the concert band and or marching band. My DD has played the flute and Piccolo since she was in the 4th grade. Yesterday my DD had her audition before three of the professors in the music department and she absolutely nailed it. They were so impressed with her that they asked if she would be willing to hang around for about an hour until the last audition. They really wanted to talk with her. When we met with them they really wanted to see if she would have any interest beyond just performing in the bands... We really hadn't given it much thought. They told her if she was willing to add at least a minor in music to her curriculum she (us) may be very pleased in the scholarship moneys there. We were told we would get their offers in the next couple of weeks including almost all of her tuition covered if she majored in Music Performance or in Music Education. I highly doubt she will do this because it would be too demanding to pursue much else, especially in the Music Performance, but she has made up her mind that this is where she wants to go and does want to be part of the music program at Mount Union even if its just a minor or performing in the bands.

Ds17 got into TCNJ with a crappy 3.4. He got a 30 on the ACT, plus 3 sports, theater, choir, ccd teacher, church choir, pt work - he will major in business.

Dd had two choir auditions last week. Her hs director took them as a group to both schools. The first one was just to keep her options open but the director is doing everything he can to get her there. Not sure how much he can do but we will see when letters come out.

The second she was most nervous for but did really well. Made choir and recieved a good chunk of scholarship money. Next up will be Showchoir.

At last they are all getting excited instead of just stressed.

Did he do ED or regular admission? My DD best friend is still waiting to hear from TCNJ but she's doing regular admission. My DD is still waiting to hear from 5 of her schools that she did regular admission but got accepted to her EA schools.

He did do ED, to up his chances. He was set on Rutgers until he toured TCNJ, and really liked it. His GPA reflects his poor time management skills, and I think he would struggle ar Rutgers.

I highly doubt she'll be dorming it when she transfers. The problem will be deciding which friends she'll be rooming with. I think I'll be steering towards a friend's DD who is nice, stable & gets along well with my DD, but isn't super tight with her. Less likelihood of drama. DD agrees that's probably best.

Since when is a 3.4 crappy? Granted, it's not a perfect 4.0, but I would hardly categorize a B+ student as crappy. Congratulations to you DS. He sounds like a lovely, well-rounded boy.
