Exclusive Baby Gorilla Photos! (plus bonus Trip Report) - June '15 - completed 10/23 - Page 31

What side is the dancing scene on in 7DMT? I want to be prepared :)

The right side, at the end of the ride. You can't miss it, since the train is moving slowly at that point.

Off topic, can I bring up a comment from earlier in this TR?

I'm guessing you are more likely to see Teddy Bridgewater in a parade at MK than we are witnessing Nick Foles......o_O

Foles looked pretty good yesterday against the defending NFC Champs! What a game that was :)

Woot! I believe even our coach was giddy in disbelief! Don't want to get carried away yet!

Wow, you guys took the park by STORM this morning! Awesome! Silly question, does that sword ever come up at of the stone? I saw a really old park clip of the Disneyland version where it did, but how about at WDW?

Circa 2010...

She was 2/2 on that trip, btw. The photo above was the second one. Dylan was much less outraged the first time she got it (he had been trying for years, with no success).

I would say that Columbia Harbour House is a yearly must-do for us, but by know, you've probably figured out that just about everywhere we eat is a yearly must-do. We like what we like, and we eat there. We stray a little, but not much.

Anyway, this is pretty clearly (to us, at least) the best QS restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. As usual, we're here early enough to not have to wait in line. But we do have to wait for the place to open. But only about another minute.

There's nothing really fancy here, but what they do, they do well. Dylan got the chicken fingers, even though he does not really like chicken:

Kristin got them as well. I got the fried shrimp:

If you like fried food goodness, then this place is for you! Sure, they have some other items, but why bother? I love me some fried shrimp. Emily, on the other hand, loves her some this:

For once, we all opted for the same dessert, which was the peach cobbler:

There are no photos to prove it, but we were sitting up in the overpass over the walkway where Liberty Square becomes Fantasyland, and the ride with the dancing dolls meets the ride with the hitchiking ghosts. We're on the Liberty Square side (urine trail view), and due to a complaining son and a mother who has had about enough of it, we're split between two small tables. I've got the boy, and Kristin's got the girl. We're all right up against the windows, so there's a lot of people watchin' going on.

As I tell Dylan to eat his chicken already, I realize that I have the camera...but not the case. I left the camera case in the pocket on the Mine Train.

While this disappoints me, Kristin reminds me that the case was garbage anyway - the zipper handle was lost, replaced with a paper clip, then lost again - and we can get a new case when we get home from Emily. I'm still annoyed that the camera will be unprotected for the rest of the trip, but I guess the thin case really do a lot, anyway. Alright, let's put our behind in the past, stop whining, and head out!

In spite of the minor problems, the meal itself was simple but enjoyable, as usual. A few photos before we go...

...and it's out into Liberty Square.

We opt out of the Hall of Presidents (again), and decide to head back to CBR to...yep, you guessed it - swim!

But first, photos!

Coronado Springs fountain at the Magic Kingdom!

Love the new hub, with the character statues guarding the fountains!

Balloons!

Art!

Boat!

Bird!

Parasailer!

Now THAT would be cool! But not today. Bus! Kids!

We get a great view of one of the deluxe resorts:

And a not-so-great view of another one of the deluxe resorts:

It's right around noon, and we're back at Caribbean Beach!

We got back to the room, and I switched our 11:55 FPs for Splash Mountain to 8:00. A little late for Splash, but hey, it's June. And hot. So Splash later, pool now.

I'm going to spare you photos of the pool, since you've seen plenty of those already. You've also seen a hair wrap already, but Emily has decided she wants to use her money to get another one:

Lookin' good!

Now, how about something tastin' good?

While I haven't really mentioned it (that) much, I haven't been drinking a lot on this trip so far. A beer or two at dinner, but that's basically been it. Not much else. But today, I'm having a beer. Two, actually. But not at the same time. That would be a bit TOO crazy.

My first was some sort of Florida Avenue Blueberry Ale, which was PERFECT at the moment. It was hot, we were by the pool, and this hit the spot.

The second choice was a Kona IPA, which was also really good. I've had the Kona Longboard and Fire Rock before (thanks, Poly!), but never this one. Like the others, it's a good one.

Emily got herself a strawberry banana smoothie from inside Old Port Royale, which was really good, too.

Meanwhile, Kristin decides she also wants another hair wrap:

In case you were wondering, here's what the OPR outside seating area looks like:

This is also the location for the giant inflatable movie screen, which ripples in the wind, making even the best Disney movies all but unwatchable. So we don't even try.

I know I said I'd spare you the pool pics, but all the same, here's Emily:

And here she is again. As usual, she's the one who is upside down.

And here's some theming:

Someone else was upside down in that one. Here's a bird:

Alright, enough pool. It's 4:00 now, so let's get ready for dinner.

As I told you earlier, in the previous update, dinner was at the luxurious Walt Disney World Beach Club tonight, at the historic Cape May Cafe. The story behind this place is an alligator wanted to open a ski resort, for some reason, but idiotically did it in Central Florida. Where it's hot. What was he thinking? So now, it's a restaurant with all-you-can-eat snow crab legs. And other stuff. But who cares? They have all-you-can-eat snow crab legs.

But, of course, we have to get there before we can start crackin' them crab legs. But how, we're not exactly sure. We're taking a cab, but first, must get to the Custom House, 13 kilometers from the rest of the rest.

After checking in the previous Monday, we walked past Centertown from the inconveniently-placed Custom House, so we're not really sure how to get to it. We need to get there, since that's where we can catch a cab to the place with the crab legs.

And, today, we walk too far. WAY too far. We have to double back, since we walked all the way to Martinique. Custom House is behind Barbados. We walked right past it, sort of. So back we go, avoiding this guy on the way:

Not sure how he got there.

We eventually reached the Custom House, where I ask the girl from bell services if she can call a cab for us. She's tells us it's right around the corner. Wow! Kristin called earlier to ask if we could get a cab there, but she didn't actually request anything. But there's one just about here. Nice!

The guy pulls in a second later, and he's a quiet cabbie, which is a shame. I like a talkative cabby.

We reach the Beach Club security gates, and our Magic Bands, which are linked to the ADR, are our key to this kingdom. That's pretty cool :) However, this is all a bit odd to me, since we usually approach the Beach Club by sea. It's not the same from the road.

In we go, and we get our pager. Almost immediately, we're buzzed in. This is all happening very seamlessly. It's wonderful.

Also wonderful, as always, is the food. Kristin and I have two completely different strategies. I start with the seafood bisque...

...and move on to a healthy assortment of mussels, clams, pizza (yes, pizza), clam strips, fish, and, of course, snow crab legs. And my personal second-favorite, the cod balls. They're bascially really good breaded fish hunks.

Here is some of that stuff:

Kristin's strategy, on the other hand, is to not waste any time or appetite on almost all of that, opting to go for nothing but snow crab legs. The entire meal. Until dessert.

Not sure what any of this is, besides the grey stuff, which you really should try. It's...really good!

Oh, and that's pistachio cheesecake alongside of it.

While everything at this place is delicious, the crab legs and desserts are the highlights. Whatever your strategy, if you like seafood, this place is fantastic. If you don't like seafood, they have other stuff, including fresh-sliced beef, which I never get. But that looks good, too :)

Our server was nice, but not really around that often. Which is ok at this place. All in all, it was another great meal in a long string of great meals at the Cape May Cafe, and another in a long string of great meals on this trip.

A few absurd photos...

...and we're done! Back to the Magic Kingdom!

(to be continued)

Welcome Back Clare!

Yes, August is face melting HOT!! I remembered you were checking in August 20 - the day we were leaving - and I was wondering how your trip was going. I'll be anxious to read your TR!

Thanks! My TR got started tonight finally! There's link in my siggy!

Now back to nilla. Phew, I'm exhausted reading all this. Man, how awesome that MK was so not crowded. I love seeing all the emptiness in your pics. I can't believe you got on all that stuff before 9:30!

CHH. Mmmmmmmmm. We ate there this year. You'll read about it. I wish it had been that quiet, though.

I can't believe Emily and Kristin got more hair wraps! They did look cool.

Cape May. Another one to add to my list. It looks so good. Excellent updates!

Your meal at Coral Reef looks good. We enjoyed it when we ate there but there are just too many good options at EPCOT ...

Though the fact the have Tank 7 there as a beer option moves it way up the list as that is one of my favorites

World Showcase is so great for photos .... Though agree about Morocco - how often does anyone really buy things there. Well, except the one time we got my daughter a bracelet for completing her mission of meeting all the princesses in her autograph book - though I think we might be the exception that proves the rule.

Hard to top the feelings of Wishes on Main St but I think Illuminations is the better show - and love the FP area as does give you a bit more room to stretch out a bit

Good job getting everyone up and at-them the next morning, even if as a bit of a force job on Emily.

Wow, you got so much done that morning! Big Thunder back row really is the best - even better at night.

I am interested to see how much is being done to Pieates given how long it is down

Love CHH. We last ate there in 2014 and like to sit upstairs and people watch too.
We'll have to try Cape May sometime. Crab legs & dessert sound perfect!

Over the years we've taken cabs to Typhoon Lagoon, DTD, DHS and Epcot. The first time I asked about one at the Poly front desk the CM said they don't need to call them since there are always a couple sitting outside. We've had quiet drivers, talkative drivers, and crazy speeding drivers.

Emily planned to go parasailing this year but never got around to it since the trip was short and there just wasn't time. Maybe next year.

Love the pics of the Peter Pan queue! We have that down as an early morning ride since it's not one everyone will agree to fast pass (and because we want to see the new elements!) so I'm glad to hear that worked out for you. I love the themed queues - we did Disneyland this summer and it was a bit of a downer to wait in (and see, everywhere) switchback lines with scores of people in front of every ride. It really ruins the visual of the themed environments.

We're being forced into March / spring break this year (darn high school-er), so I love seeing all that you've been able to knock out despite the higher crowds in June!

Cape May looks delicious! I think cabs tend to always sit outside some of the resorts, at AKL there were always 2 or 3 outsides just waiting. The only time we had to call one on our past trip was when we were at the Contemporary.

Ooh! I wanted to add that Emily isn't the only one whose always upside down. My girls would join her there. They now watch TV upside down. All the time. Gymnastics.

The day's not over, either! More updates tonight!

We love it, too! We usually hit it right when it opens.

I can't believe Emily and Kristin got more hair wraps! They did look cool.

They finally came out with about a week left in August!

Hair wraps were the main thing we were able to use to convince Emily to embrace the switch to CBR this year :)

Cape May. Another one to add to my list. It looks so good. Excellent updates!

Thanks! It IS really good. I love seafood, and lobster is probably lower on my list than the items they have at CMCB. Plus, the pizza is delicious!

Your meal at Coral Reef looks good. We enjoyed it when we ate there but there are just too many good options at EPCOT ...

Yeah, it's tough. Meanwhile, some of the other parks are shortchanged it that regard.

Though the fact the have Tank 7 there as a beer option moves it way up the list as that is one of my favorites

I think they had it in bottles at most places. I know I got it at Cape May. And it was good!

World Showcase is so great for photos .... Though agree about Morocco - how often does anyone really buy things there. Well, except the one time we got my daughter a bracelet for completing her mission of meeting all the princesses in her autograph book - though I think we might be the exception that proves the rule.

I did get little boxes on year with clay luchadors in them :)

Hard to top the feelings of Wishes on Main St but I think Illuminations is the better show - and love the FP area as does give you a bit more room to stretch out a bit

That's a tough one for me. But I can't really argue with you convincingly. Both are great!

Good job getting everyone up and at-them the next morning, even if as a bit of a force job on Emily.

"I've been up for two hours already. Get up!"

Wow, you got so much done that morning! Big Thunder back row really is the best - even better at night.

It's nuts at night!

I am interested to see how much is being done to Pieates given how long it is down

I'm thinking the work consists exclusively of a new mist image :)

Love CHH. We last ate there in 2014 and like to sit upstairs and people watch too.
We'll have to try Cape May sometime. Crab legs & dessert sound perfect!

Both are great! You should definitely try Cape May. Very good. And it's at the Beach Club :)

That's great that it's so convenient!

Emily planned to go parasailing this year but never got around to it since the trip was short and there just wasn't time. Maybe next year.

Kristin and I parasailed in St. Pete Beach last year, and a few times before that. But never in Disney. I think it would be incredible!

We did it last year, too, when A&E was the massive queue du jour. With the new theming for Peter Pan, it makes it even better.

I've never been to Disneyland, but a lot of it just looks bizarre to me. It's a Small World...with the queue outside? What?

We're being forced into March / spring break this year (darn high school-er), so I love seeing all that you've been able to knock out despite the higher crowds in June!

The long trip helps, but timing things right is key, too. And FPs.

That is SO AWESOME!!!! I Love Dillon's face in the photo, it's like "Did that REALLY just happen!" Very, very cool. :thumbsup2

He was VERY unhappy about it! Perceived injustice is a massive pet peeve of his, and seeing his sister accomplish what he failed to do for years - twice - was a bit too much to take!

Late to the game but am enjoying your report! :)

Never too late to join! Welcome! And thanks!

Cape May looks delicious! I think cabs tend to always sit outside some of the resorts, at AKL there were always 2 or 3 outsides just waiting. The only time we had to call one on our past trip was when we were at the Contemporary.

We started using cabs a lot more in recent years, though only once this year. It's really the easiest way to go from resort to resort, in most cases.

Ooh! I wanted to add that Emily isn't the only one whose always upside down. My girls would join her there. They now watch TV upside down. All the time. Gymnastics.

I can read upside down, but only by spinning the book. I'm not ready to start trying to stand on my head just yet :)

Ok. let's wrap this day up!

We decided to take a resort bus from the Beach Club to Magic Kingdom, knowing full well that "moderate trash" like us are typically not welcome on the buses used by the luxies (that's what we mod rats call people who stay at the deluxes. Well, that's what I call people who stay at the deluxes. As of about ten seconds ago, when I typed it into my Trip Report).

We made it a point to avoid wearing tank tops (for men), ripped clothing, and anything with offensive language or graphics on it, so we just kept our mouths shut and slowly allowed ourselves to be inconspiculously absorbed into the privileged elite.

The gold-chassised bus got priority entry into the Magic Kingdom lot, and the footman rolled out the red carpet as the paparazzi swarmed the vehicle. Luckily, we slipped through the crowd as the actual super-wealthy staying at the Beach Club (we're also known as "dining plan trash", btw) was forced to face the media frenzy. And back into MK we went.

Well, there's one photog we couldn't escape:

Oh well, we did our best. Smile, kids - you're famous!

Our adjusted-time FPs for Splash Mountain were almost ready, but it's all the way over there:

Actually, that's BTMRR, which we have no delusions of finding 5 minute standby waits for right now. Alright, kids, start walking!

Clouds look pretty wild right now:

It's 8:00 now, and we waste no time walking past the standby trash on our way to rafts. We wait for the first two rows, as always. I snap the "8" shot you saw at the beginning of this Trip Report Day, we board, and away we go.

...and we're back.

Wait, that's it? The ride's over! And that's the only picture?

Yep. Now get over it. You know our camera doesn't perform well in that lighting. So cut me some slack, Jack! You dig?

Besides, you already know this ride. Or should. Or should be surprised when you ride it. Or something.

After riding, we decided to get some more FPs. Hey, they have Jungle Cruise - for right now! Can't beat that time.

So we walk, fortunately NOT soaking wet, in the evening heat (yes, it's still somewhat hot) toward Adventureland.

It's not that dark yet, so I don't know if we'll get an "at night" experience on the ride, but oh well.

Into the queue we go, and it seems abnormally long. Like "longer than the standby line" long. Now the standby trash is snubbing US! We can't catch a break.

No matter, let's play Head's Up!

I'm starting to have the clues memorized for the "Disney characters" category, which is the only one we play. It's easy when the four of us give the exact same clues every time.

While I may have exaggerated about the standby line moving more quickly than the FastPass line, I wasn't entirely off base. Check this out:

In all, we probably waited 30 minutes in that "Fast"Pass line, but we occupied ourselves, so it wasn't too bad. Besides, we get to experience this ride at night after all! See how happy that makes us?

The skipper was a riot, the masses were into it, and fun was had by all. A little kid (who was flagrantly violating the "no one other than the skipper in front of this line" rule) was interrogating our tour guide, and he handled it beautifully. I love this ride at night!
