Ok,seeing these pictures,I'm concerned. I arrive Saturday and we are staying deluxe for the first time to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday and our room is courtyard. It was my understanding construction wasn't starting till October or I never would have chosen this hotel...

We are arriving 9/8 and are staying CL. We have two rooms booked and requested at least one bunk bed room. Anything else we can request to avoid construction noise/views? This is likely our only stay for many years to come, so if there's any way to somewhat avoid the "minor" construction I'd like to!

As far as the current, non-DVC (scaffolding) work, I was told that it's expected to continue another 4-6 months and will overlap with the DVC expansion. The work I saw was at times very noisy and scaffolding was up in two areas: South Wing over the entrance by The Mercantile and in the WL Courtyard by the 7th floor CL window where they're replacing the logs.

Do you think the 4-6 months timeline is reliable? Going to be there late April. I'm starting to get nervous about all this construction.

Hi everyone. We're here now & are staying in the side that faces MK & I must say, besides seeing the scaffolding as we drive towards WL to check in, we haven't noticed the construction at all. I wouldn't call it minor but I can say it hasn't affected my stay at all. If I hadn't seen it on the drive in, I probably wouldn't even know it was going on. I would definitely request asking for a room on the north wing of the hotel. That must be a popular request though because when we checked in yesterday, the only room they had on that side was a room on the second floor. It's still a nice view and we can see wishes through the trees. The upper floors must have a really good view of the fireworks!

We are in room 1021 and I can see the scaffolding from my little porch. Waiting on the boat right now to go back to the lodge from MK. I will see what other angles I can take. Also the whole front is now covered with scaffolding. And if anyone is wondering last night there was no signs of reburb at the country bears. Today my husband pointed out the Bears is all covered with scaffolding but behind mesh screens

thank you for the live updates. We were supposed to be in courtyard bunk bed room Nov 1 -6. Do you think now that I would be better off trying to get a woods view bunk room instead? Also, for those there now, is the noise only during the 9am-7pm timeframe? or is it occurring before and after as well. I wanted to stay WL for boat to MK bc we will be there 3 of our 5 1/2 park days. Not really expecting to be at hotel except maybe one early evening so I was hoping the construction wouldn't bother us much as I wanted the WL more for convenience over a moderate resort but am now second guessing this as live reports are starting to come in. would love your thoughts. thanks.

Well I am a bad example to answer this because I am in construction so I have learned to tune it out. But yes the noise is there and yes you see all the tools cords barriers and ugly scaffolding. You should stay at the parks during the day

I just read on the POFQ thread that you can now by a case of bottled water for $6.38 in the Port Orleand gift shops. Can anyone that is there now or recently been there confirm whether bottled water cases are at WL mercantile too? I was going to order two cases and have them shipped, but if j can just buy them there I'd rather do that.

As of last month, yes. $6.49 each.

Thanks for the update KOOK

Ya know, DH were, yep were scheduled to arrive 9/2 for our very first, very special trip without the kiddies, umm young adults. We kept going back and forth, hemming and hawing and even after a lengthy convo with a wonderful Guest Services CM, specifically put on assignment to handle the WL construction calls swore up, down, inside out and sideways, promised everything In the WDWorld that NOTHING in the way of construction, scaffolding, hammering, noise, NOTHING would be going on during our 9/2-5 stay. Well, we went with out gut and cancelled last week. Our room request is right in the middle of that mess of a pic you posted and you know us, it's that room location or bust. That is just how it is. Our beloved WL will still be there, as will WDW when we decide to venture back. Maybe the Poly for just DH and I when that mess is completely finished. We don't get to WDW often and now that we have more flexibility, we will find the right time for us. It's just not now.

Enjoy the mom/DD trip. You will cherish it always!!!:cloud9:

I can't blame you for canceling, WL is just not the same with scaffolding in at least two areas and drilling noises, and that's not even any part of the upcoming DVC expansion. Also, for over a year, at least, they've let all the courtyard foliage become overgrown and it now obstructs many views. Not sure if they've been letting it go so as to block upcoming views of cabin and/or restaurant construction views. Poly is still a partial eyesore with the East Pool completely dug up and surrounded by scrims, (posted those photos last week on Poly thread). GF is beautiful and quiet...for now. CR looked calm, too;)

Yay Mercantile pics, thanks Kook!! :dogdance:

You're welcome, but unfortunately, it's pretty much the same stuff they've had for...years?

I'd ask for a North Wing room...unless you see scaffolding when you look out, then I'd ask to be moved to the South Wing.

I actually do think that's pretty accurate because I talked to a construction worker rather than a Disney CM;)

Hi Kook - from all the information you have gathered do you think that they are still going to build the cabins or is it just a wild rumor as that one CM said to another guest?

They will be built. My information was always based on the publicly filed plans and permits, which I have in my WL DVC Expansion thread. I also confirmed this while onsite this week.

I figured that the rumors were true and the CM was wrong since that has been our experience so far. Thanks for checking. :)

We just checked out. We arrived the 26th & pretty much hung out in the room & had dinner at Whispering Canyon at 5:30pm and then went back to the room around 7:30. We also walked around the pool area. We did rope drop for MK yesterday (EMH) and went back to the hotel around 1:30pm for a break (it was raining) then headed back to MK around 5:30. I never heard any construction noise. My exact room number was 2026. It was very convenient to the QS for coffee and drink refills as well as to the boat dock. The elevators are FAST too! The same room on a higher floor would have a clear view of wishes right out of the balcony! All that to say, the construction really didn't affect us on that side of the resort. We stayed there because like you, we wanted the convenience of the boat to the MK for our quick stay before our cruise. Getting back to the hotel after MK closed was a piece of cake because it has its own boat with no additional stops!

Thanks for your trip updates. I liked your room view. And I agree with you about the boat to MK. It is really nice, especially when MK closes. :)
