Thank you @pilferk - I'm holding out hope - we are arriving 9/10, attending NOJ & MNSSHP, departing 9/20. Bringing my father as a thank you for working his butt off (he worked shift work at a glass plant for many years) so I finished college with no student loans (he just retired). It's once in a lifetime for him & I am wanting it to be amazing - to me the castle is way everyone has in mind when thinking about Wdw which is why I'm so hung up on the construction walls in that area. I had hoped that when they reopened the show all the walls would have come down...

Tempted to use my AP privileges to pre-register for the 5K...
If you've never done a rundisney race of any length I highly suggest it and I've only done one. I am doing the 5k and half marathon this coming January. One of the best Disney experiences I've ever done.

I don't mind everything else going on around the castle, but I feel really bad for people who've never been and can't walk through the castle on their first trip. And being selfish, I'm keeping my fingers crossed you can at least walk through it again come September 3rd.

Ismo...I'm right there with you. That's a terrible way to see the castle for the first and/or only time.

Let me know how it looks for you when you arrive, as I am right on your heels arriving 9/12. I'm hoping they are really productive over the next week for your sake!

Haven't been back to WDW in 15 months, but of the previous 5 trips, we were only able to walk through the castle one time. It was always blocked off because of the shows. Don't now if they open it up or not on a regular basis.

Regularly it is only closed for DaWM and Wishes. Before the construction there were days where I seemed to only be near the castle during show time so I couldn't walk through, but that was coincidence.

It is a shame for those who are visiting for their first/only time, but let's remember that some of the attractions are in a really bad condition right now precisely because guests won't allow Disney to close them for more than a couple of months and refurbish them. And hey, at least they didn't cover the whole castle at MK like they did at DL for the 60th decorations.

I'm sorry. I understand people coming for the first time want to see and do everything ( which isn't possible) but if something needs to be worked on or fixed it should be done right away and not put off because they are worried about first time guests. Disney used to close attractions regularly if something wasn't working, now look at attractions like Kali, SSE, and universe of energy. The worst castle decor Disney had ever done was the castle cake. I think the Disneyland castle for the 60th looks great. It was actually worse, they had large plastic diamonds that looked bad on the castle turrets but they took them off when they got the feed back that it looked bad.

Yep. It's easier to refurbish rides at DL because when something is closed, the locals just have to come back later and that's it. At WDW guests are not happy when they miss their favorite rides.

As for the 60th layout, I actually think it looks beautiful. I meant this:

Ok I didn't understand you were talking about the scrim in front of the castle my bad. That wasn't there very long tho. However in Hong Kong during their Castle refurb they put up a scrim with the picture of the castle on it which was up for longer than the Disneyland one was.

I never meant to imply they shouldn't make improvements. The improvements around the castle and hub are necessary and are going to make a huge difference. For me it's no big deal, as I will be back every year. But that doesn't change the fact that I feel bad for those who only can visit WDW once and just happen that one trip is during a major renovation. It's one thing if the Astros Orbiter is down, but it's another when the castle is covered in scrims. It's totally necessary, but still a shame.

I figured the Kali effects werent put on out of laziness tbh. But on an unrelated note can I just say how underwhelming that ride is as a raft ride even though I enjoy it immensely

I did the Frozen 5K last year. Being local and carless means it's a bit more difficult to swing, especially since I've got to do an internship this spring to finish school.

And the frozen 5k was one of the coldest races ever. I understand tho I am in high school yet so it's even harder for me. Other than marathon weekend I really want to do the tinker bell in Disneyland because it's during my birthday weekend.

All of those effects that don't work are because of laziness. Look at the paperboy in SSE. Oh let's just turn him around so no one can see he doesn't work...
