I Thought I Could Bypass The Lobby With Online Check In??

Normally I never do online check in because the lines always seem longer than regular check in. However, I've read you can bypass the lobby completely and go straight to your room as soon as its ready, so I did it this time.... but the confirmation says I have to stop by the lobby and show ID? :confused3

Did you reserve a credit card? Input your phone/cell number? Pay off everything?

I don't usually hook up a CC is that why is says this? We just pay cash for everything. Ugh. I did give my cell phone, and everything is paid off.

COlor me confused as well.....

I also booked on line for a stay Aug 8-12, entered credit card, phone number, etc, checked in on line and yes, I still had to stop by the desk.....

There may be a change to your room and that is why they are requesting you stop by the desk.

Just wondering do you guys have your magicbands and everything?

Ugh that's annoying! I would have just done regular check in had I known this... :sad2: So did you ever get a text or anything with your room number?

Well we did request a King Bed (2 adults), but that was our only request so that would be weird. And yes, we did get our magic bands and everything.

I wonder if perhaps they couldn't fulfill the king bed request so since they couldn't fulfill the request you have to go down?

I still always go to the desk even when we online check in but that is usually because they bring you your packet with parking pass and resort map.

Did you drive or use Magical Express to get there? If your drove/cab and didn't come through magical express maybe they think you drove so need your parking pass?

Well we check in on Sunday so I just did the online check in now. I think it would be weird if they already know they can't fulfill the request, but what do I know. I also didn't request anything else (floor preference, elevator, etc) because all we really want is a king bed. We plan on using Magical Express to get there and have also gotten our packet in the mail. I guess I'll know on Sunday :confused3

I did online check in and received the same message a week or so ago. We are arriving this Friday and yesterday I received another email saying that we do not have to goto the front desk - we should enjoy the resort or head to a park and they will text or email my room number when it is ready.

Oh that's good to know, thanks!

Rooms aren't assigned until a couple days before arrival, so that's not something the system would know to instantaneously return that response that the OP received.

OP - it says you have streamlined check-in, so I would just proceed to the room once you get your room number texted you. I'd only bother to stop at the front desk if I had an issue, since you're confirmed with streamlined check-in.

We arrive Sunday as well. I completed online check in but have never received any emails saying desk or to skip it. Guess we will find out Sunday as well.

Do you have a discount applied to the room that requires a special ID, such as a cast member rate?

Ive read on a few threads on here that not 100% of the people that do everything via online check in qualify....the reasons are unbeknownst to me.

Oh well. A few extra minutes conversing with a lovely and friendly CM won't kill me Saturday if I don't get to skip it. No biggie.

From what I've heard, the process of checking in now is must easier even if it's not 'skip the counter' and takes just a few minutes.

I've been to Disney 12-13 times...I don't need a map or anything. Just smile at me and verify everything and give me my room number! :)

I suspect it may be because they have had problems at that resort with the MBs not opening the room door automatically like they are supposed to. Two of the last three trips we had to go to the front desk first and both times it was so our MBs could be manually linked to our room or that they could verify that they were going to work correctly (they weren't).

As everyone has been finding out, just by doing online check in does not guarantee you can Bypass the Front Desk. If you have done the following:

Completed Online Check In
Be paid in full
Provide a Credit Card
Provide an estimated time of arrival
Provide a U.S. Based Cellular number

you will have one of three Check In scenarios.

1.) Bypass the Front Desk - About 2 weeks out you will receive an email informing you that you can Bypass the Front Desk when you arrive. When you arrive, or sometimes before you even get on your plane at your home airport, you will receive a text. If your room is ready your text will have your room number and a link to your resort's map. If your room is not ready, your text will say so and will also say you will receive another text when it is ready. Either way, you can go directly to a park and your Magic Band will work for park entry, memory maker, any dining entitlements you may have, etc.

2.) Streamlined Check In - Once you complete Online Check In you will receive a Message just like @TeamSy posted above. When you arrive you will go to the Streamlined Check In Kiosk and hand the CM your ID. If you room is ready the CM will give you your room number and a map. If your room is not ready, you will receive a text with your room number once it is ready. Either way, once you leave the Streamlined Check In Kiosk you can use your MB for park entry, dining, etc.

3.) Online Check In - If you don't receive the Message about Streamlined Check In and don't receive an email about Skip the Front Desk, you will go to the Online Check In Desk when you arrive.

And as @BobC stated above, nobody can figure out why one person gets to Bypass the Front Desk and the next person gets Streamlined Check In. Our last trip we were traveling with another family. Both on the same exact type of package, both paid in full, both did everything exactly the same and arrived on the same flight. We got to Skip the Front Desk and they had to go to the Streamlined Check In kiosk. Both of our rooms were ready and there was nothing out of the ordinary. So who knows. :confused3

Thanks for that info @dansdad

I'm arriving in 4 days and didn't receive that email so I'm in the same boat as the OP. I did all the qualifications you mentioned but nothing.

Oh well! I was hoping to just waltz into the resort to my room, but like I said an extra 5 minutes won't kill me. Maybe I won the Disney Lotto and am getting a Club Level upgrade at WL and they want to inform me LOL.... One can dream right?

Mine did this until yesterday, a few days away from arriving and the you can skip email arrived.

Did you link a credit card and set a pincode ?

I wish!

This is really informative - thank you!!! I wish I knew this before I completed my streamlined check in - I would've just gone to the front desk! I was thinking what I was doing was Bypassing the front desk (#1). Bleh! Well, thank you for this information!!!

And thank you to everyone who has replied as well!!!

Mine did this until yesterday, a few days away from arriving and the you can skip email arrived.

So you received yours just a few days prior til arrival?

Meaning there is still hope I get mine! (4 days out)
