Lots of folks complaining about the new “beverage policy” so I am curious, have you sent an email/letter/phone call expressing your feelings?

Years ago DVC tried to put paper cups in the studios and there was such a outpouring of emails complaining about it that they revised their policy. Please do speak up in an official email/letter/phone call and let the policy makers know how you feel.

When I sent my email I tried to be polite but also mentioned the unreasonableness of one blanket policy for maximum number of bottles/cans allowed without regard for length of trip and without regard for non-wine/beer drinkers who also would like to be able to bring their beverage of choice in their carry-on. Also in my email I discussed our future plans for a transatlantic cruise and a Panama Canal cruise and how we will need to rethink which cruise line we now should use. I ended my letter with, “I sincerely hope Disney will reconsider this new policy and revise it to make it more reasonable. “

This is the address I used. Perhaps if others have different addresses that should be utilized they will post them in this forum.

Many thanks!

Quick edit, two days after sending my email to the above address I received a phone call from a DCL representative. He said Disney is "listening" to the comments and concerns regarding the new beverage policy and will be taking them into consideration for any future changes.

I sent an email to the CEO, Karl Holz. I strongly urge people to contact them in some way, shape, or form to make our voices heard. Like kid-at-heart, remind them of how many cruises you've taken and what you have planned for the future. You can complain all you want here but it's going to take flooding their inboxes to reassess the change.

Hi,

While my family and I have not sent an e-mail regarding a the recent adult beverage policy change, my mom has sent an e-mail to DCL complaining about the pool hours change. She got a reply from DCL after she complained about the pool hour change, but it was very generic but it was polite. The response also took a couple of days to receive.

I wouldn't even consider this. We don't go to get sloshed. We go to have a "family" vacation. I've seen pics of people who take a LOT of alcohol. Who's watching the kids? I've been on enough of these cruises to tell you that sometimes, no one. I've seen kids running amuck, being rude, often hitting other kids, pushing them around in the pools and the parents are busy having their "drinks" to either notice or care.

We take enough for my husband to have beer at night after our DS has gone to bed. I might have a glass of wine. If your drinking enough liquor to get sloshed, who's watching the kids? If kids aren't supervised, perhaps that's part of society's problem! Regardless of how much I might like to drink, at the end of the day, I still have to be a parent. So with that said, there's only so much I can drink and enjoy where I can still be a responsible parent.

A lot of cruise lines don't let you bring anything on at all! So I have NO problem with the no liquor and limited beer. At least you can openly bring it and not try to "hide" it. So no, I don't have a problem with it and won't be writing anyone.

To each his own. If you want to drink and booze it up, go to Carnival! Or better yet, stay home.

I sent one a few years ago when they tried to change this policy before. They did change their mind that time. I would have been irate if they did this and I had a cruise booked that couldn't be changed without penalty. Fortunately we just sailed in May and had a dummy cruise booked. I was already on the fence about it. I just cancelled it and booked a cruise on Royal Caribbean this morning. We will get the drink package and it will still be cheaper than disney.

Your story makes for a great email because you did cancel. I sent several emails to Karl Holz. We are PIF, cruising Oct, and cannot cancel.

Ouch. Judgemental much? Geez.

We enjoy a couple/few drinks a day and STILL manage to be responsible, loving and mindful parents. It's amazing. We're talented like that.

I will say it again...we are on a 7 night, in October, past our PIF date. My major problem with their change in policy is that they changed their terms of service after my PIF date. They can (and will) do whatever they want, but it's just bad business to treat your customers in such a way. I did write a letter. We will not be booking for Alaska next summer as we had planned and I told them that as well.

Judge much? I've said it before I'll say it again...yes, it's a FAMILY driven vacation not a KID driven vacation. You don't need kids to be a family. If adults want to drink its none of your business. I honestly don't understand the judgement about alcohol use. And as it was stated before, it's more about implementing it after a pif date. What if, say, DCL started charging kids for soda and water AND they left the drink stations in plain view for the kids to see. You'd be pretty upset that your cruise is suddenly costing you $500 more.

I just did, thanks for the reminder. I'm not a liquor drinker but my In-laws are and I know that being able to bring on their own liquor will make the giant price tag a little easier to swallow. We are planning a big family cruise.

Wow..nice way to insult a bunch of people over something that supposedly doesn't concern you. Have you read any of the other threads about the policy change? You know not everyone on the cruise has children, right? And if they do, maybe they want to have a mixed drink in their room after the kids are in bed.

People aren't upset because they are limiting alcohol. People are upset at how this policy was changed. 1) they did it with such short notice that people like me are past our PIF date and DCL changed the terms of the cruise on us, 2) they only include beer and wine, which many people don't drink and 3) they have not responded to people's questions about new beverage packages, etc.

Try this on for size instead. You have booked a vacation for your kids and showed them videos of the awesome kids clubs they will get to enjoy. They are so excited they can't wait. You pay off the cruise, start booking excursions, etc. Then you find out that DCL changed the policy on the kids clubs. It is now $10/hour/kid. But you have 2 kids so that is $20/hour. So just 2 hours a day on a 7-night cruise is now going to cost you an extra $280 for something that was included when you paid off the cruise. And when you email DCL to tell them that this change is not fair since you cannot cancel without penalty, they just send you back an email restating the new policy and telling you "there is magic in the Disney name" (as if that somehow explains why we should pay more and expect less).

That is what most people are upset about. Not that they are restricting liquor.

I haven't yet but plan to very soon.

Even if you don't drink at all and this policy change has nothing to do with you, I would think the way in which this has come down totally disregarding guests who are past the PIF date and in the penalty phase would be of concern. It sets a precedence. It's reflective of the way DCL is okay with treating their guests. Sure *this* policy doesn't apply to you but what happens when the next policy switcheroo does and it's you getting the short end of the stick?

As a guest everyone should be concerned about what DCL finds acceptable in how they treat you.

I sent an email as well, for basically the same reasons. 48 days out does not give me enough time to rejig the budget that we have spent almost TWO YEARS working towards. I had money for an on board booking so if need be, I'll remove that line item and look at booking a future cruise with another cruise line.

I voted yes, but it will not be me.

Dsis has a cruise coming up and is disappointed in the change in policy. I encouraged her to contact DCL.

Although I am not happy about this all I have is a placeholder cruise right now -which I will most likely cancel depending how my RCCL cruise goes in March-so I don't think I really have a leg to stand on.

I did even tho it doesn't affect us as we sail on Saturday.
I just pointed out the length of cruise should have an impact on the allowed amount to be brought on and the fact that they changed the policy on people who booked under a contract they changed without notice and can't get out of.
We aren't heavy drinkers and do buy onboard also. I don't drink wine or beer so if I would like to have a drink after we are back to the room for the night I won't be able to.
The reply email was polite and addressed each concern but doubt they will reverse it. Maybe at least grandfather the PIF sailings or reconsider amount vs length.

You are judging. I have food allergies and cannot drink beer. I don't particularly like wine. DCL has taken away all of my options. Just because I drink something different does not mean that I get "sloshed". I probably drink less alcohol than you or your husband. I like to mix my own, b/c I like mine on the weak side. But, like I said, DCL has taken away all of my options, so now I get to pay more for 1 rum and coke than a whole bottle of rum would cost.

And BTW, our next cruise is just DH and me.

Who's watching the kids? Me, of course. It's my late sixties age parents who want to bring on their own Southern Comfort for pre-dinner cocktails. Good job stereotyping the average DCL patron as a drunken mess that doesn't take control of their unruly children.

I answered yes to the poll. It asks if anybody sent a letter, which to me means snail mail. But in reading the OP's post it talks about email.
