Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE Information & Questions

Second, how often does the "internal" FW/WL bus run between WL & the stop nearest Pioneer Hall? We have (of course!) Hoop Dee Doo ADRs for our first night (it's a family tradition!) and several ADRs for Trails End because... well, if you have to ask, you haven't eaten there LOL. We are hoping to have Kevin for our waiter (again) at our dinner ADR - he is simply one of the best CMs we have ever met!

You should probably ask the question about the Ft. Wilderness internal buses on the Ft. Wilderness thread. There is no "internal bus" that includes a route between WL and Ft. Wilderness...they're two totally separate resorts. If you bus it from WL to Ft. Wilderness, you'll need to get off the bus once you arrive at the Fort and transfer to their internal bus system. If I were you, I'd just take the boat, rather than the bus, over to Ft. Wilderness to eat. The boat dock at Ft. Wilderness is right by the HDDR and Trail's End, so there will be no need to take internal buses. Alternatively, you can walk from WL to Ft. Wilderness and also be able to avoid the internal buses.

Thanks for that info! As we understand it, we will need to utilize the buses, as I have been told that the boat between WL & FW does not accommodate ECVs.

I do have a couple of questions - I have searched all over, but can't find any info on. First, does anyone know if there are any CL/deluxe HA/roll-in shower rooms? Or if any of the CL/deluxe rooms have a "step in" shower? I would love to surprise our daughter, and secretly upgrade our rooms if it is possible.

Hello, and congratulations on your upcoming trip. First of all I know there are some club level Handicapped access rooms, because people have gotten them and wanted a bath tub. So, in your case the room you'd be looking for does exist.

As for the buses, pinning down an exact schedule is hard, but we have ridden the bus you are referring to, getting on at WL and off at the bus stop at Fort Wilderness by Pioneer Hall. It isn't one of the internal FW buses, it is a park bus that stops at WL and then Fort Wilderness. It stops at bus stop 1 at WL, just like the MK buses. I have heard that they run these specifically in the evening for Hoop De Doo access, and that's what we rode it for because it was raining and we chose not to ride the boat, but it might run at other times too.

You are also right that in general the Blue flag boats that run the loop between WL, FW, and CR are smaller and don't accommodate ECVs. At some times you would still have a potential boat option though, as the red/green flag boats run a loop between WL, FW, and MK. If they aren't running one of those, a red flag boat would take you to MK where you could catch a Green flag boat to Fort Wilderness, which would be a longer trip than the bus, but a chance to see Bay Lake from the water.

Happy planning and enjoy your trip.

There is new scaffolding up at the standard view south Wing rooms behind the lobby. Also we walked past Disney Imagineers discussing matters about the new construction with staff from Art of Animation...that was on our walk down the nature trail to FW before our boat rental. Plus we saw CMs giving a Segway Tour down there too.

Thank you so much for the information! I really do appreciate everyone's help! :)

Buses have been very frequent during our stay so far we have never waited for longer than 10 minutes for any bus. Even the storms have not put them behind schedule!

Last summer we took the bus to FtW for breakfast at Trails End. We didn't have to switch buses- it went right there, although it may have stopped at the other FtW stop first. We just asked the bus driver when to get off. We took the boat back to the lodge afterwards, but I think it may have been one of the smaller ones.
Enjoy your trip!! I am hoping for a fall trip in 2017. Have never been there for F&W or Halloween fun!

We're arriving at Poly in a couple of days and I feel like I need a passport since we're staying sooooo far from Bay Lake:sail:. I'm going to be doing some snooping, err, visiting WL though so stay tuned for photos...

Finally gave enough posts to allow me to upload photos.

Thank you for posting your photos and giving us updates during your stay. I hope you had a great vacation:)

Thanks for this very useful thread and for answering my question!

You're very welcome, @mickeycharles!

Loved looking through this info. We fly to Florida tomorrow from the UK and spending some time in Universal/I Drive before heading to our first stay at Wilderness Lodge on Sunday 23rd August. We have stayed at All Star Movies, POR twice, Corondo Springs and OKW so this is our first 'Magic Kingdom' hotel. Hoping our 4 year old loves the setting! We have a woods view, really excited about visiting.

Welcome to the thread! I do think your toddler will love it at WL, especially the new splash area and make sure to take him over to FW to see the horses and ponies.

Hi,

I have just booked club level at WL for 5 nights from 11/28 to 3/12 using the Fall discount rates. I am off to Disneyland in 2 weeks to run the half marathon and will buy a Premier annual pass to cover both DL and WDW as I plan to be back in WDW during 2016 ( maybe for the Epcot Flower and Garden festival) .Looking forward to going to the Christmas party ( I will wait until I get my Annual pass to buy the ticket as I will save a few dollars.) and seeing all the christmas activities and decorations up ( I saw some of them in early Jan 2011 as I was running the WDW Half marathon but some of them had started to come down .

Yippee for booking the OFC! Don't forget that Cobbler Time starts at 8:00 sharp;)

Please add us to the list - we check in next Friday - Aug 21st - Aug 24th CY view. I requested inner courtyard upper floor does this seem okay? Thanks!

We also check-in that day:hyper:, but over at that other MK Resort…Your request sounds great and just ask at check-in if they were able to grant your request. If they didn't, they might be able to still fulfill it:)

We checked into the WL yesterday and I wanted to post a bit about our room and the resort right now.

We're in a deluxe room, so staying CL. We have room 2000. A few things people might not like about it. The balcony is pretty narrow. There's a stone wall about five feet high, so you can't see through anything. But the view is of the woods. We're low enough that we couldn't see the fireworks if we wanted to. On the plus side, it's very private. And while it poured down rain for a good hour or so last night, the balcony was nice and dry. It's raining right now, actually, and my laptop is just fine. We have one of those odd little standing balconies, and I honestly don't know what the point is, other than having a private conversation on my cell phone.

The lounge is great. We're not big dinner folks, so the appetizers are good for us. Last night when we came back from the parks, there was a fresh batch of apple cobbler. It was soooo good. We stayed CL at the YC last year and they've instituted the procedure where the staff pour wine for you. It didn't bother me tremendously, but I have to say, being able to get a glass on my own, without wondering if I'm being judged, was very nice. I also like the way the lounge is set up. I know they're refurbishing YC, but it seemed so cramped to me. I like having the ability to spread out. We've never run out of food and it hasn't been crowded. It could just be the time of the year, with school starting in many states (we don't go back for another week). But even getting there at 5, the lounge wasn't that crowded. We haven't been down to breakfast yet, but I can update tomorrow because we have no plans. The CL staff has also been great. My sister and niece are arriving today, so I asked if we could set up the DME for them (I have their magic bands). It was taken care of with no trouble at all.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know and I can see if I can find out the answer.

Thank you for posting about your Deluxe Room stay and offering to answer questions. Have you been getting nightly turn-down?

I, too prefer the self-service method in the lounge, but DH prefers it when someone else pours. I've heard that all CLs will eventually be like the Regatta Club where they pour drinks for you.

The balconies that barely fit one person and those solid railings you can't see through are purely aesthetic and as you've discovered, not practical.

We just got back yesterday. 10 days was so nice - I thought it would be more relaxing to go longer to spread things out but I think we just crammed in more :jumping3::Pinkbounc:jumping3::jumping3:. We actually cancelled our Universal day (so glad I didn't buy tickets ahead of time). The boys were totally fine and just wanted to rest.

I mentioned previously about the chain saw sounds coming from the south wing construction during midday and also the hour long faint (from 5th floor) drilling sounds coming from the north side roofing work. Scaffolding was still up on the woods view north tower towards the very front of the hotel and some at the very top roof area where the south tower connects to the bear face. I just had to get in the right position for photos!

We arrived at 11am and didn't get our text until 2:50! We spent time eating lunch and walking around the resort. It dumped rain so no swimming so we just hung out in the lobby and wandered. But you could tell there was a group of people hovering near the desk just waiting to pounce because they hadn't gotten room assignments (I was one of them). Hey it says 3pm right.

We had no issues with buses in fact most times walked up to one just arriving. never waited more than 10 min I'd say even for the dreaded EPCOT I've heard so many people have trouble with timing. Forgot how long it takes to get to Downtown Disney and also that they only have 1 bus stop there with all the construction so plan accordingly if you need to get to Cirque or something on the West Side vs Marketplace. We've always taken the boat to MK but man the bus is faster I think. We did the boat to CR and the walk to MK too which was nice and vice versa on the way home when my DH thought the bus would be crowded. We split up (to test it) and I beat him by 5 min or more taking the bus - and we waited a while for the bus.

The pool bartender (heavy set blonde girl) had a lot of trouble hiding her displeasure of another CM working in HER space. The other one was trying hard to help but obviously wasn't doing things the way the blonde girl wanted. Not sure what the seniority was there. We saw her another time walking through RF and she does not know how to put on her show face - she just seemed very gruff.

Later we saw that helpful CM in Roaring Forks on the floor and moving tables trying so hard to find something someone in a group had dropped (maybe a pin or something). She was crawling around on her hands and knees determined to find whatever the young boy lost and being so chipper the whole time. Another guest found the item (it had rolled quite a distance) and brought it over. She still spent time with the boy as he excitedly showed her all about this item. I then saw the CM grab her lunch box and said her goodbyes and happily walk into the back. :flower1: My husband went to ask someone her name because he was so impressed by her helping and felt bad because the bar CM seemed so rough her the other day. I think her name was Gretchen and they went to the back and then said she had left on her break. SO she had taken some of her break time to help that family. He did go tell a hotel manager about her!

My son pulled a very very very wavy long hair (12inches +) off of his cherry or wrapped around the toothpick from a kids drink at the Territory Lounge. DH gently waved the waitress over and showed her the hair. Her face was disgusted and she didn't say much. She literally looked like she didn;t want to lay a hand on it. IMAGINE HOW WE FEEL SISTER. She reached out her arm and kind of leaned her shoulders back still disgusted and took it. She brought back another drink and set it down. I don't even remember her really saying much and just can picture her puckered up face - btw - she had very very very long curly hair pulled up on top of her head. My husband worked several years as a bartender an was quite surprised esp for Disney that they did not comp the drink. That's not at all what we were after and we never questioned it when presented with the bill its just sort of the right thing to do in the food industry. But we coined a new term - hairichino cherries!

Saw a few extremely dirty hall vents by the elevators. Are there no long handle dusters available? But our Mousekeeping was nice and stuffed animals neatly arranged. No folded towels or anything magical. Extra blankets delivered quickly. None of the direct buttons to Bell Service etc worked on the phone, I think we just dialed the house operator. One day we got a wake up call when we didn't ask for one. We hope that other family made it where they needed to be on time. I always set my own alarm on the phone.

I loved the dimmer button on the clock and loved the ceiling fan on high as I need "fan noise" to sleep. I hate quiet hotel rooms. The thermostat gets nice and cold.

Laundry was good. 1 broken washer and the little automated helper thing said no problems found so we went to call from the laundry phone and the speaker was missing from the phone receiver! So we walked to the front desk to report the issues. We had to stop several people from using the broken machine but maybe within 20 min a maintenance man was placing a sign and fixing the phone so they were very responsive with those issues. Bringing a pop up mesh hamper was a great way to keep the floor clean of laundry and transport to the wash. Great tip from here.

I don't care for all noise and loud music at the pool during the pool party stuff and so glad we didnt have a room at the lower portion of the courtyard or else I'm guessing you hear dance music booming out your window. We heard it faintly from the upper end of the courtyard but it wasnt bad. But the kids have fun with some of the activities.

Artist Point delicious as always. We all 3 had the buffalo. My DS9 wanted to try it and we're all about him trying new things. He liked it but obviously too much after appetizers so I had buffalo for breakfast!! Yum!! DS13 had the Artisan Cheese plate and Mushroom soup. Those cheeses were sooo yummy!

Roaring Forks is way too tiny in my opinion. We usually get out early so it wasn't usually much of an issue but 2 days we went "late" at 8-8:30 and it's packed. Food is good. The flatbreads are really big in my opinion. We ended up DS13 getting the Roast beef sandwich (also huge) and DS9 getting the flatbread and I would just eat nearly half of theirs. We got tired of so much uneaten food the portions are so big.

Overall it was a great trip but OMG it's humid!!! I'm so thrilled to be home in my 105 degree dry heat.

Hope everyone's upcoming trips come as quickly as possible for you!!!!

What a thorough report - thank you! You mean it's going to be humid and hot when we get there Friday??!! You were supposed to take that home with you;)

Hello! I have gone back a ways (to December of last year) and have been reading everyone's posts with great interest.

We will be at WDW Sept 25 through Sept 30, for our first-ever WL stay! This trip will be a "Girls Only" (no boys allowed - daddy has to stay home and go to work!) and it's a bit of a bonus trip for us; we typically don't get to do a September trip, so it's just extra special! We have planned a full day for F&W, and are doing MNSSHP too. SO EXCITED! :D

Like so many others, we fell in love with WL the first time we visited (on our trip this past Feb. to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday). We caught the last table of the night at WCC, and since we were literally the only Guests, our server just sat with us and chatted - there was no one else there, so when we asked for ketchup, he went and got the crew in the kitchen to bring out the bottles!

After we ate, we wandered around the lobby for a while, and before we had gotten very far at all, we knew that we would be staying at WL on our next trip because we were just in love with it.

Hoop Dee Doo ADRs for our first night (it's a family tradition!) and several ADRs for Trails End because... well, if you have to ask, you haven't eaten there LOL. We are hoping to have Kevin for our waiter (again) at our dinner ADR - he is simply one of the best CMs we have ever met!

Thanks! We can't wait to arrive!

Welcome back - I'll log your dates:). What a fun and memorable 21st birthday! Your trip will be here soon so enjoy for planning.

Nine days till we check in, of course things are going to pick up off the coast of Africa. It hasn't been defined yet but it looks active. Ugh. Why, why why? Please let it not form into anything.

We arrive Friday so I think about these potential storms, too. But, we've been through tropical storms at WDW and the only real issue is getting to/from your vacation. Once at WDW, if there are any weather alerts, they'll keep you apprised and they do a great job of having plenty of fun things to do at the resort, if the parks even close. The storms usually pass through within a day and the parks can be relatively uncrowded and the temp. a bit cooler. Bring rain coats, shoes you don't mind getting wet and umbrellas and enjoy the parks! It's not ideal, but nothing to worry about, at least not while you're actually at WDW. This, too shall pass...

Love the update, Det. wifey;)

We are signing up for September 2016, and we want to return to WL!

Our dates will be 9/10/16-9/19/16. This will be a big trip, our first as a family of four, our first with an infant under 1, and we'll have my parents and some friends joining in too. We'll start a PTR before long, but we have plenty of time to plan.

An infant under one?! Family of FOUR?! Do explain! I knew you'd be back sooner rather than later! Congratulations and let the planning begin!

Hi Kook! Yep, Melissa is pregnant and due in December. I mentioned it a while back in a multi-quote, but it was easy to miss.

We haven't gone far from WL, and we think the location will be ideal with an infant.

Have a great time on your trip. You'll be just across the water bridge. :)

Congratulations! That is exciting news. I'm glad you'll be able to return to the WL next fall. And I;m looking forward to your pre-trip report. :)

By the way - we are going to try out POR for a long weekend at the end of August.

Thanks. We will start a PTR soon, and will have lots to write about, like waiting for our son to be born...

We are looking forward to hearing about your POR stay. I know it will just be a quick trip, but it should be nice.

We are booked for WL in May 2016. As a WL newbie, it is comforting to see a veteran sticking with WL despite the construction next year. I have been thinking about moving to AKL. Are you concerned at all about the construction during your trip?

Allie will be a wonderful big sister, too. :)

We are planning to take full advantage of POR by eating dinner at Boatwrights, seeing Bob Jackson, and taking the boat to DTD for lunch at Wolfgang Puck Express. DH wants another meat loaf sandwich. And we will be at our beloved Wilderness Lodge for dinner at Artist Point. You can do a lot in a short trip. :) We also plan to book the free dining bounceback for June 2016 so that we can take our son and grandsons back to Disney. :)

Back to WL news -

We received our letter from Disney Destinations telling us about the construction during our January trip.

deleted

They assure us that construction noise will not begin before 9am. And they don't say anything about DVC units in the south wing.

Experiencing our worst bus service to date trying to get to Epcot waited 50 minutes for it! Three for DHS five for AK three for DTD four for MK and five for FW in that time, appalling service today!

Congratultions on your upcoming trip. We definitely gave thought to the construction when choosing WL. We wound up not staying there last year, as we had switched to POR to save money before the main pool construction was announced. We did visit WL then though, and despite the negative effect it had on the resort we felt we still would have been comfortable staying at WL. I guess we aren't as sensitive to construction as some, since we don't spend a lot of time in the room during the day and tend to be pretty easy going about views and construction fencing. It is our opinion that with the upcoming DVC expansion project the impact on the core of WL will actually be less than the main pool renovation last year. There will be a lot of work going on in the woods around WL, but we think the core of the lodge will be largely unaffected, at least in the initial half of the project. This could change late in the project as restaurants are potentially rearranged and things move in to the newly added buildings, but our thought is this will occur sometime in 2017...

AKL is a great resort too, and while we have never wound up staying there we visit it every trip and appreciate what it has to offer. It has a very similar feel to WL since it was designed by the same architect and has many similar secluded sitting and observation areas. We prefer the larger QS area at AKL, and like that it has a zero entry pool. Then there's the animals, which are impressive and very unique. WL wins for us though based on the beautiful location on Bay Lake. Not only is it so pretty, it allows for boat transportation to MK as well as to CR (to catch the monorail) and FW (to hang out and eat at Trail's End). Being so close to MK is really nice, and we find that if we take the bus to MK it is very quick, even faster than the bus from AKL to AK, and we do spend more time at MK than AK.

So, time will tell but we are still very excited to be booked at WL. We are also optimistic about the possibility of lower crowds and better discounts as people are scared away by the construction.

Sounds like a great plan to take full advantage of POR. It is such a beautiful resort to walk around, and we particularly enjoyed the Alligator Bayou section. The boats to DTD are probably the biggest advantage it has over WL, so it is neat you will get to use them. It is also cool that you'll get to have dinner at WL, as it is always fun to visit "home".

Thanks for posting your construction letter. It seems consistent with all of the other information available, and indicates to me that it just won't be that bad. :)

Those were my thoughts as well. Everything you mentioned is what led me to WL over AKL. We plan to spend 2 days at MK, 2 days at Epcot, and 1 day at the resort as an "off" day. AKL is not convenient to any of the parks we will visit. Also, WL seems to have some special touches that put it above AKL. We are looking forward to the geyser, the boat parade at night, the boat ride to MK, and being able to walk over to FW for some fried chicken and a wagon ride. The tradeoff is no animals (except maybe a rabbit or deer if we're lucky). However, we can see African animals at our local zoo. Not the same, I guess. Looks like I'll hold out a while longer until we get some eyewitness accounts of how things are progressing. By then, though, it may be too late to switch.

Yes, all of those features make WL special. Many good things come from being on Bay Lake, even if you have to go to the North dock to access them because of the construction. The walk to FW is great, and feels so secluded. In your animal comparison, don't forget the possibility of seeing an Armadillo:

or there's always these guys:
