Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

Hi all! Its been a while since I posted on this thread. Even now, I'm not staying here, but I'm helping a friend plan their trip. I hope to be posting about my own trip very soon! :teeth:

I have a couple questions.

1. I see on this month's recreation guide something about 'changing of the guard' at 4:30pm. What exactly is this?

2. Do they still offer free beer tastings in the Wave restaurant at 3pm on Saturdays?

Thanks!

I can't answer your questions, but hopefully someone else will be able to help :flower3:.

We arrived at MCO this morning a few minutes earlier than expected and only waited about 15 min. before we started boarding ME. CR was the last stop this time around BUT it still only took us a total of 45 min. to get here...great start so far, so I thought!

Upon arrival, we were greeted outside by a CM who escorted us to the elevator and well, she didn't hit the 12th floor button as we expected, instead, she took us to the 14th floor and told us that we've been upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite :). Room still isn't ready but no complaints here...honestly, could we get any luckier??? I'll be sure to take some pics when we get in.

Congrats on the awesome upgrade! Enjoy :wizard:

I know that at the Beach Club, "changing of the guard" is a little show with music and dancing that the lifeguards do in the afternoon when they change shifts. ITS fun to watch! I assume this is similar.

Don't know about the beer tastings, but I'd love to find out more!

Changing of the guard sounds like fun! Thanks! Here's a little blurb on the free beer tasting that I was talking about. In 2014, it was mentioned in the recreation guide, but I see it's not in the August guide of 2015. I'm wondering if it has been discontinued? If anyone is currently at the Contemporary, could you ask? I don't want to mention this to my friends if it has been discontinued. http://www.wdwinfo.com/news/General...or_guests_of_Disney_s_Contemporary_Resort.htm

That's great!!! Me and my girl are going to be in the Theme Park View Atrium Level for our 5 year anniversary this coming October & we're hoping for an upgrade also. I already had them apply an internal notation for the 14th Floor but I'm expecting that we'll be in the Atrium Level regardless. Did you do the Online Check In for the Atrium Level? Any room request or any other type of requests you made while doing it? And what Room Number are you staying in? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

18 days until we check in. I'm so excited, but also in that weird planning stage of feeling like it's still too far out to pack, and i don't want to tweak our plans any more so I'm just counting down the days until i can do something!

I know what you mean and then suddenly, everything has to be done a few days before you leave.

yay! i finally read thru all the posts on this forum & ready to jump in! we'll be staying at BLT on DVC points from Sept 24-Oct 6. it's our first stay ever at BLT as my "home resort". we're in a 1BDRM standard view. i'm using the great thread showing the different rooms & views, so thanks to all for posting info & pics!! can't wait to experience the EF&WF and MNSSHP for the 1st time also. WOOOHOOO!!

I think my only question is about the fridge/freezer in our kitchen. does it have an ice maker & does it use filtered water to make the ice? since we're from Hawaii where the tap water is naturally filtered, we're particular about water taste & quality. hope someone out there has an answer! thank you!

Welcome and I'll add your dates to the Log-o-Rail. The one bedroom is gorgeous.
13 days until we check in. I'm so excitedpixiedust::flower1::dogdance:

Even closer to your trip now! 8 days for us:)

They still had the beer tasting in April, but you're right that it's not appearing on the activity calendar this month, so I guess they may have discontinued it or perhaps its seasonal.

WOW! How amazing! Congratulations and enjoy your sweet suite:)

Does anyone know if there is a toaster available for use in the Contemp Cafe?

Two toasters, no waiting...

We have a 1 bdr BLT room booked I'm thinking I'd like my youngest DD to sleep in the room with DH and I so she isn't bothered if we keep the older kids out later. Does anyone know if the single chair/pullout bed will fit in the bedroom with the king bed? Can it even be moved? If not, I can bring an air mattress that she's used to sleeping on (at grandparents), it's just extra to pack.

Looked at DVC website tonight and 15 minutes later we went from a one bedroom at Saratoga Springs to a two bedroom Theme Park View at BLT. One of my dream rooms to stay in will be fulfilled.

Checked out of CR this morning to move over to the Poly. Everything about our stay here has been amazing! We didn't end up getting into our suite until almost 5 pm which was very unexpected but thankfully the CL CM kept us entertained. Later that night as we were heading out, he pulled us aside to apologize for the delay and told us we had a room credit added for the inconvenience. ..thought that was very nice. Here are aome pics of our suite, room 4908:

Wow that is just amazing :)

I have moved from WL to CR in South Wing and so looking forward to the resort just the walk to MK is going to be the best.

Does anyone know what time the ME picks up at CR? We have a 12:45 flight and trying to plan a breakfast for our last morning. Thanks!!

Disney will schedule your ME based on your personal flight time (make sure Disney has that information). They usually schedule to pick you up 3 hours prior to your flight time. The time they give you is the time the bus departs CR, so get there 15 min early. In your case, they will probably pick you up around 9:45, give or take a few minutes. I believe you will get the time on your door the day before you check out.

Thank you. I know that BC pick ups are at :05 and :35 after the hour, so was just wondering if CR had a similar schedule (i.e. if I could expect our pick up to be closer to 9:30 or 10:00). I just don't want to be too rushed the last morning!

Can anyone give me their opinion? DH and I originally booked a BLV room with a pin code discount. I JUST saw a Theme Park View room open up on the discount so I grabbed it as fast as I could. I still have our original booking. We need to decide which to keep and which to cancel out. Which would you keep? I have heard good things about BLV and I have heard that TPV is a "parking lot view" with the park in the background. The difference in price is only $30 a night, so its not a cost issue. We have no kids, so the noise level won't be a problem. We are staying Sat-Fri and will be in DHS Monday night for Fantasmic, MK Tuesday for the MVMCP, MK Wednesday for our normal MK day, and Epcot Thurs for Illuminations, so we wouldnt really be in the room every night to see the fireworks from the balcony. Is it nice to have for reasons other than viewing the fireworks from your room?

We had a TPV and we loved it for Wishes. Next time, we're going for BL. I think looking at the lake when you're there is nicer than 20 minutes of greatness. Although, at night it's nice towards MK with things lit up.

The photos I've seen of theme park view rooms always had the parking lots in the foreground, and the same thought entered my mind. The upside to a blv is that you'll see the electric water parade every night, and you can always go to the observation deck on the fourth floor to see wishes. I think you can't go wrong either way, personally.

I assume your staying at the CR and not BLT? I've had TPV at CR twice, and 5 times at BLT. Yes, there is a parking lot, but there is also the magic kingdom, grand floridian, and the polynesian in your view. It's a common topic, and I look at it as your either a glass half full or glass half empty type of person. You can let your head or your eyes lower and focus on the parking lot, or you can raise them and focus on the castle and space mountain.

Watching wishes from my own private balcony is my favorite part. But a very close second is having breakfast on the balcony and watching Disney come to life that day. Watching the monorails switch onto their tracks, and start bringing the first guests to the park. Hearing the steam trains whistle as it comes around Space Mountain loaded with all the characters for the opening show. Seeing the astro orbitor and people mover making their test runs. If your high enough, seeing the logs crest the hill of SPlash Mountain only to plummet into the briar patch. Taking an amazing photo of the ferry crossing the seven seas lagoon with the Grand FLoridian as a back drop. Just sitting there and watching the monorails do their full loop.

To me it's a no brainer, I barely notice the parking lot because there's just too much other stuff to look at :) Going back to BLT 4 weeks from yesterday, can't wait :) And btw, if you are staying at BLT, all the above is the same, except you can't really see the Poly, or the monorails traveling between the TTC and the CR, but you will have a great view of them entering/leaving the CR.

Sorry, the chair won't fit.
