BOG breakfast for Mine train warning! Early ride not guaranteed

By reading this thread, this seems like an isolated incident. What I'm more shocked at is that the CM's held people back from 7DMT instead of A&E M&G. Can you imagine the backlash if they did that?

I thought for sure it was an overzealous or power tripping CM until OP's post that the CMs with the RD crowd were also telling them to get to the back of the line... that makes it seem like a policy change. It will be interesting to hear from others who had BOG ADRS this week. If this is the new procedure, it stinks.

As mentioned in this thread, the other factor within the last week is the traffic flow through Cinderella Castle is blocked due to new construction/refurb walls. Those walls weren't there a week ago. That flow (or lack thereof) affects rope drop too right? So the CMs might have needed to make changes to the rope drop flow, or got confused, or something.

I've never been to WDW yet so maybe I'm way off, but your comments made me wonder if the RD cm's thought the BOG people were actually RD people who had managed to get ahead somehow. Especially if they saw the BOG cm's holding those people back, they could have assumed they were line jumpers or something. I sure hope it was isolated! We have BOG reservations at 8:10 on Labor Day and I need to decide what to do with them.

Actually, when we were there in June, the path through the castle was blocked and the RD crowd was led around the corner by the teacups.

I personally don't think that one isolated incident equals a "Disney policy change" and I think this is much ado about nothing. Some CM screwed up. Of course the CMs leading the RD herd are going to tell other people to get to the back of the line instead of letting certain guests cut the line they'd been leading since the gate.

Disney knows it's an unwritten privilege to be in the park early, and why they can charge so much for the opportunity. They don't say this, but they also do not tell people when booking that having an ADR does not entitle you to ride or enter the park areas early. If they made it policy then people lose the right to complain, and if they get in early it's a nice surprise, but they won't because many people will not pay for the ADR. By not saying anything official it creates chaos and misplaced expectations. I think since it's an accepted fact that people book expecting this (whete her it should be or not is beside the point, it's well known) they should have a disclaimer. We might not like it but tif it's a rule then it's a rule.
I am one of the people who will only book the breakfast for the early entry, the exception being if it was the only way I could experience BOG which we loved on our last trip. If they continue making people get in back of the others then I will have a much cheaper breakfast elsewhere!

Yes, and my "choosing to no longer offer early rides is one thing" comment was the only part of my post that was in response to your comment (and it was indicating agreement. Of course Disney can choose to stop offering pre-opening rides if they want to). The rest was simply commenting on the situation the OP encountered being held back from entering the line even after RD - it was not directed at anyone specific.

Thanks for clarifying.

If I have an 8:20 breakfast ADR, how early do they let you in? My daughter really wants to eat there, my son could care less, but we can only get a reservation for one. Will they let me and ds in the park with her in the morning if we only have an ADR for one?

I guess it depends on how closely they are checking names against the list the morning you get there.

How old are your kids?

Just FYI - if you can get more than one ADR for 1 person, you can just all go in and sit at the same table since it is seat yourself. I did this on our last trip when we needed to add a person. He just got his own ADR, and we met at a table inside. Keep trying though - these open up frequently.

We were unable to get a single reservation for our party of 5 so had to book 3 and 2 on separate reservations. Once you're at the restaurant, you just sit together, no big deal. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. If it were during park hours, I wouldn't mind taking the chance, but to go to the effort of being at the park that early and then be told you can't do it- I just wouldn't do it. They did check the number of people in each of our groups when we arrived at the park. I don't know what they would've done had we tried to add someone at that point, but if I had to bet, I'd say they wouldn't allow it at the gate.

You might want to try separate reservations for each of you if you haven't already.

I think at the very least reserving a limited-resource breakfast (BOG) with no intention of using it goes against the first point of your simple attitude: how is reserving a spot that is clearly in high demand for other reasons being helpful and gracious to guests? You're certainly not helping them get the reservation you wanted! :)

Exactly my point. Some see it as a "loophole", but what about those that couldn't get a BOG dinner or lunch ADR, and just really want to experience EATING there, just being there, but they can't get a breakfast ADR either...if your family is taking up that spot, with no intention on using it, that's not exactly being gracious....

I personally HATE this whole situation that has been created at Disney. I miss the days of being able to just go to the parks, and eat wherever you feel like whenever you feel like it. My parents are going with us on our upcoming October trip. And my poor Dad was just so confused with the whole ADR situation. They love the restaurant in Mexico. We used to eat there frequently when I was a kid. It's somewhat tradition. I told my Dad I needed to make him a reservation, and he was like "why?" I said "You have to now." He says "that's just silly! How do I know when I'll be hungry 6 months from now?"
Now that being said, we went last October, made our ADR's, our FP's, and things went smoothly for the most part. We were able to see and do almost everything we wanted without having to jump through any "loop holes". Trust me, I'm not the moral posse. I was just referring to a post way back where someone had said they'll do whatever it takes to assure THEIR family has a great vacation and does not care about anyone else. That's what I think is sad. I mean, of course we all want our children to have an amazing vacation. But do we really think running in a herd of people, or skipping some of those fantastic meals just for a ride, or doing some of these other things are what makes the trip memorable for our kids? It's not.... You know what will? Just being there with you....just spending time with you, enjoying that meal, taking things slow. My 12 year old told me her best memory of our last trip was being with me, just the two of us, at MNSSHP, in the MK at 1am. She about made me cry! I mean, seriously, out of the whole week, the FP's, the ADR's, cramming it all in, she enjoyed just spending some time with ME. It's that easy, folks! Stop hoarding the ADR's, stop rushing into the park like your life absolutely depends on being first in line for something. Talk to your kids, spend time with them, ENJOY THEM. That is all..

Ok, I think I can kinda understand the "you can't ride until we see the RD folks coming round the corner".....but then to make them get in the BACK of that line....that part is just absolutely wrong.

I've been going a long time and have no memory of it ever being this way unless we just did qs- which is pretty much what we do now with a rare exception here and there.

But this I couldn't agree with more. Thanks for the reminder of what's really important.

I sure hope someone will come back with a report from another day so we can find out if this has happened again!

Anxiously awaiting more recent reports, too! I was told by the CM on the phone that if your name isn't on the ADR list, you won't enter the park. @jcarwash - if you drop that 9/7 reservation, depending on how many it is for, I would be most greatful to coordinate so that I can grab it!

Hmm... my TA told me we'd be okay if we had the same number of guests as the reservation is for. For all my ADR's, I just have them under my name, for 6 adults. We're actually a party of 4 adults (2 teens) and 2 kids. I guess I'd better get confirmation from other sources before we go!

You'll be fine! They need the correct number of people on the ADR, but adult/child/infant only matters in advance for the prepaid meals so you get charged the right amount.
