Cecil the Lion

I hope the dentist is extradited to Zimbabwe. Apparently the US has a very good extradition treaty and there is speculation that there are enough charges that the US has to extradite him. Not so much the killing, but if he did really bribe the guides with the $55,000, that falls under the extradition treaty.

Not sorry at all that he had to temporarily shut down his practice due to the intense reaction. To lure any animal out of the protection of its reserve, to wound it and then hunt it for two more days and then to try and hide the tracking collar, is disgusting.

I LOVE lions!!
I know that sounds weird, but I really do - they are just beautiful majestic animals.
The thought of someone doing what he did not only to this lion, but other beautiful animals like him make me so sad.
What are people thinking when they hunt these animals?
I just don't get it and I'm glad I know no one like him.

*I'm not against hunting for food, but I am against hunting just so someone can have a trophy.

They should throw the dentist into the wild and then say it's time to hunt for the most dangerous game! What a disgusting thing to do.

The more I learn about this story, the more angry I get. I am a very big animal lover (we're staying at AKL next year, come on!), and to hear about what happened to Cecil just breaks my heart. (I've even seen him called Cecil Roar - he has a full name! How can you kill an animal with a full name?!)

Jimmy Kimmel's heartfelt message last night brought me to tears. To see a host, let alone someone who used be on The Man Show, show such raw emotion over the loss of an animal just goes to show you that trophy hunting and poaching go far beyond machismo. I believe there is something very, very wrong with this man. That is not an excuse for his behavior, any more than there's something truly wrong with mass murderers and serial rapists. This man disgusts me.

And call me petty, but I have zero qualms about the media and the court of public opinion tearing this man to shreds. Good. Let him fall. I have no mercy for him for what he did to this animal. This goes beyond just killing a protected, majestic animal - Cecil's cubs and the pride he left behind is now in jeopardy now that he's gone.

Let them have him. I dare him to try and come back to the States now.

This story just breaks my heart. I understand hunting for food and providing for your family. I do not understand hunting an animal for the sport of it (especially one that is so majestic). I hope that both he and his guide serve time for this. It is completely disgusting to me.

Is he still in Africa, or did he come home yet? Is it possible that what he says is true and he was duped? Either way, what a horrible thing, I also do not understand hunting for the sport. Seems like it's all set up, lure the animal out, shoot it with a bow to disable it, then the "hunter" goes for the kill shot. Strange to me.

If you want to tropy hunt, grab your spear and go hunt the animals in their natural habitat. Lure it out with food and then shoot it, some "hunting" that is. Worthless piece of carp

Yes, VERY possible he was duped. That said, ignorance has been discarded as an excuse in such cases for a long time. It's still up to the client to determine if his (or her) guide service is on the up & up, especially in a place like Zimbabwe which barely has a government at all. This guy has booked exotic hunts before & he should know better.

It is unclear where the dentist is right now. He's closed down all his social media accounts and not shown up at the office.

He's an awful person and should have to pay for his crimes. Make an example of him and maybe his "hunting buddies" would learn some lessons on messing with unarmed creatures. How about trading him for some of the American hostages over seas since he likes that kind of stuff.

It is truly disgusting. If there is justice, he'll be extradited to Zimbabwe. And all this because his idea of fun is to shoot, kill and behead a beautiful lion.
