I can't post the link but now a man in Montana wants to marry a second woman. He says he was inspired by last weeks marriage equality bill. If the state refuses he wil sue. Polygamy is illegal in Montana but he says the new law must include polygamy. If I understand the new law, can't you now marry anything or anyone you want now.

(Bolding mine.)
No, you're not understanding the "new law" correctly.

Ugh, this thread is gonna get gross and obnoxious.

Going to? The OP took it there already.

Lots of people are going to say obnoxious things, because they want to. Their can I marry my dog or get me 7 wives stuff is absurd. It's not a slippery slope. But there will be folks who happily waste a lot of their life worrying and handwringing about...absolutely nothing.

All one has to do is read the actual decision from the Court itself to realize just how wrong their interpretations are. I simply don't understand why that would be difficult when it's readily available in its entirety all over the web.

I would be interested to read the article when you are able to post the link. Would you post it please?

I think some people just want to be featured in the Trending on FB spot.

If he sues, he'll lose.

Do you want him to lose. If some got what they want shouldn't he? Seems fair enough. Funny how so many who are pro gay marriage think it's fine to stop there.
Sigh. Those that want to marry their dog, their grandma, or get 7 wives aren't going to be able to do that. Period. It won't stop the "conversation" about it though. People can spend their days as they like, free country. :)

He may lose at this point, however, he is free to pursue the option of marriage being legally defined as a contract between more than two parties. Right now, the law does not define it for multiple parties. There is absolutely no reason that polygamy cannot be pursued as a valid marriage. Over the course of history, there have been periods of time in various cultures where polygamy was the norm.

I can kind of see the multiple spouse thing. we are redefining what we mean by marriage. if it now includes any two people regardless of sex, why should it be just limited to two people? after all if three or four people are in love, and love wins, why should those people not be allowed to get married? not saying it is legal now, but same sex marriages weren't legal until recently. So is the final definition of marriage now set in stone?

i think much of the same arguments that will be used against multiple person marriages will be the same arguments that people used against gay marriage.

One of the big differences (to my understanding) is tax (and other financial) implications. The tax implications of a same-sex marriage are no different than a different-sex marriage (still two people), when you get 3+ people in a marriage, things get complicated. Not insurmountable, but would have to be hashed out.

The cast of Sister Wives said they were going to pursue legal action after this ruling.

It was only a matter of time before people would take this law to the next step. Everyone knew this was going to happen. As I suspected those that were up in arms about same sex couples not being able to get married are now saying all these other people (this guy who wants 2 wives) are crazy and can't do that.

I could care less who you marry, but I would expect all those supporting same sex marriage would be the first group to support this guy as well or anyone who wants to marry anything.

Besides polygamy being illegal(same sex marriage use to be illegal so that can be changed) what is the difference? He obviously loves two women enough he feels he needs to marry both of them.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.
