Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend 2016 Thread (Jan. 14-17, 2016)

Forgive my ignorance... What DL party are you taking about? I've been strictly a WDW person for years...
Sorry! :goodvibes They're doing a similar party for the DL 1/2 Labor Day weekend this year; 1st time for that race weekend. It's similar to the Wookie Party, but instead of just Tomorrowland (where the party for SW was held), they're closing down the whole left side of the park which includes Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Frontierland, and Critter Country. And aside from all the extra lands and rides you get w/ the DL 1/2 party, there's also a special viewing of the new parade, I thought I read something going on in Frontierland and character picture ops as well. And even w/ all the special 60th anniversary of the park being up and going on and added 10th anniversary "magic" that's surrounding the race, that party is still just over 1/2 way sold out.

Confused...Are they having a party for Star Wars weekend? IF so, where do you get tickets?
Thanks.

Oh, wow! Thanks for explaining all of this!! I've gotta say that I'd buy a ticket for that party! :) But I see your point... if that's not selling well, maybe not best to try another. I wonder, though, if the craziness of SW fans would sell out a party as long as there were character meet n greets? We're a special breed, us SW folk... ;)

I would love to do the parties. I just can't afford the prices.

I wish it was something different than a T-Shirt and rather a Tech Shirt

Sounds like a tech shirt to me and hopefully at that price it's not a plain t shirt. From the website...

  • Champion Double Dry™ fabric wicks sweat, controls moisture buildup, to keep you cooler and drier

I know it sold out this year when they did, so I imagine it would or be close for next year. And they had SW characters for photos and I heard those were big lines. :darth: :goodvibes

Normally I wouldn't do the party, but I told myself that for the 60th stuff a few weeks back and for the DL weekend in Sept, I'd let myself splurge. If I was interested, I'd buy it or do it. For the 60th, I lucked out and didn't see much so I just got a shirt, the popcorn bucket and a shot glass at the Crystal Shop. Here's hoping the merch for the DL race doesn't entice me and I'm good. :rotfl:And aside from the Tink 5k, b/c that's my fav course, the DL 5k is the last rD 5k aside from big anniversary years, they're just too much when you add in the extra day off of work and hotel. :sad1:

I sent the link to my parents so they could buy for Christmas presents. They struggle finding good options now that the kids are getting older, so this works well for everyone! :-)

So I have reservations at both Carousel and Park Place and will cancel one but does anyone know if they have the pedestrian entrance by the bus loop open so we can cut across thru DTD to get to the start line at 5am or will we have to walk all the way around. Just deciding if I should move to Stovalls so its just a walk up Disneyland Drive ?

It's open and some places are open for food and coffee early race mornings.

As Stovall's, it really comes down to a personal choice ~ do you want to roll out of bed and have a 2 min walk to race starts w/ longer walks to the parks or a shorter walk to the parks and little longer walk to the start. They'll have free shuttles that pick up at Stovall's and drop you off at the bus loop, but downside is if you miss it, it could be upwards of 30 min until it makes it's way back depending on traffic.

It looks exactly like my Dopey shirt, which is most definitely a Tech shirt and is one of the softest shirts I own!

Oh Good To Know! The color for the Rebel is kinda awful though. Maybe I'll get one for my husband just not me

I know what you mean! During the 24 hour day, I bought the event shirt, the event pin, a 60th shirt, two 60th pins, ears... I love the blue and silver color scheme. If the race items have the same blue and silver, I may have to hide the credit cards. Trying to save money for my other out-of-town races.

That's my ultimate goal too ~ saving money for other races. So far I've been really good at SW and Tink. I've found in the past when I say I'm allowing myself to splurge I always end up finding nothing I like. Maybe that was my subconscious kicking in, knowing NY is a ginormous expo, but w/ my luck, I'll love everything at the DL expo and have to go light in Nov. :rotfl:I forget, which one are you running... Chicago or MCM or both?

I'm running the MCM, but NY was my first choice. Probably just as well. I don't think my wallet could withstand the NY expo, Manhattan and a Broadway show. Love NYC! Thank goodness most DC tourist things are free. :)

I have a few questions from today's registration:

1. did anyone see a question on the form about entering Coast to Coast challenge? Are they no longer asking that on race registrations and figuring it out automatically? I didn't see it on the form.
2. was anyone able to order the kids' races ears? or are those only available for people who register their kids for a race? when I click on the runDisney link for commemorative items, it takes me to my registration page that shows several items but not the mouse ears. there is a bundle for a hat, tumbler, and magnet, but not clear if those are the mouse ears. was anyone able to order it?
3. when and how does legacy status kick in for runDisney races? does that occur after a race has been around 5 years? how does runDisney know you're a legacy runner for a race? what are the usual perks for legacy runners? (e.g. early registration? separate ribbons on the medals? etc.)

Thanks in advance!
