DIS Unplugged Show Feedback and Suggestions

I know there is more interest in the history of DL vs WDW
I don't know about that. Most east-coasters have never been to DL. DL does have more history since it opened 16 years earlier, but with WDW approaching its 44th birthday, there is plenty of interesting history to discuss. I love when Kevin gets on that topic since he's been visiting since the park opened in 1971. I've been going since 1978 so I greatly appreciate reminiscing during those conversations since I remember almost everything that he mentions.

So I second the suggestion to make WDW history a periodic feature on the show.

Thank you for posting this thread Dustin! I wish I would have seen this thread previously back when it was originally posted, hopefully you and the team are still hearing out feedback from this thread. I am a big fan of the DIS Unplugged Podcast! Here is some feedback:

1. BE EXCITED! I have noticed that sometimes certain members of the Podcast roundtables are not always visually excited or do not appear passionate about the topics being discussed, perhaps it is the routineness of having a weekly podcast, I will not mention names but it would be nice if sometimes these certain podcast members were more excited, engaged, and not make it seem like the podcast is a routine task, especially when big groundbreaking topics are being discussed such as new attraction announcements, expansions, etc.. These are EXCITING things and as Disney fans the roundtable participants should be fired up with genuine excitement during these shows!

2. Correspondents - Cut in video clips of correspondents "in the field" such as a new attraction openings, new restaurants, etc.. Having a visual perspective of the topics being discussed would add more excitement to the show, I noticed the Universal Edition podcast sometimes does this and its very effective! In addition, have you guys ever considered allowing proven DIS Fans to be correspondents?

3. Interact More with Fans! I have noticed that the members of the podcast rarely engage with fans and listeners, especially online, I have seen forum threads addressed to specific members of the podcast and that go unanswered and ignored. I find it hard to believe that the DIS boards are so busy that the team cannot "keep up" with your online community. At least have a webmaster or representative of the team respond to these threads and make your fans feel like you guys actually care about your listeners that take the time to participate on the forums!

I hope you guys do not take offense to this feedback, that is not my intention. I remain a loyal listener and fan of the DIS Unplugged and look forward to many more shows! Thank you again for allowing this opportunity for feedback!

I try and I try but there's something with the Disneyland show that fails to connect with me. I feel bad because they all seem like very nice people.

After listening to the 7 in 7 Disneyland shows I feel bad that I wrote this. I really liked hearing Tom and Michael's insights. Definitely going to subscribe.

I know I can't be the only one who would love to have the team travel to the international parks and give 7 in 7 type reports.

When there were audio podcasts I could listen to them at the gym. I am challenged now to find the latest shows. Livestream.com is not my favorite and I've had some technical problems with it. It is difficult to 'get into' the show when the cast changes regularly. Aside from that, I love Pete's rants. I love it when Pete hosts the show - no one does it as good as he. Kevin is a blast. John is so funny. It has been good to see some new blood get involved and I'm glad some new shows have spun up. I tried to watch the Universal show when it first started and it was a train wreck so I haven't gone back to see if it has improved - I suspect it has improved. I think that anyone who has a real beef with the show should probably do a reality check. This show is given to us for free and it is entertaining and enjoyable. It is a real service. Others may try to do some similar things, but Pete has raised the bar beyond anything comparable. He has made the mold for a lot of imitators. I have a lot of appreciation.

I listen to the audio show every week. I use my iPhone and have no trouble at all. What type of device are you using?

Ok where to start,

I began listening to the pod casts in September/October 2015, they were live shows except when the group had to go out and about then they pre-recorded or just did not do a show (which does not happen often)

Since I started to listen I keep hearing from other (older) DIS Podcast listeners about how it use to be with the banter, off handed remarks etc, and that they were all pre-recorded.

I am often left scratching my head, and left thinking was it really that much better, I still hear banter, off handed jokes, and things that left me saying to myself " OMG...did they just say that...LMFAO"

Few examples from recent shows that are awesome, and is what everyone is looking for (banter, off handedness, fresh and hilarious)
- the hot dog episode with JeniLynn both on the Universal show as well as on the DIS show (poor girl was put on the spot, but took it like a champ!)
- the Hearkening/Harping episode where they looked up the meanings on Siri
- The recent episode (sorry can't recall if it was live or not) where Pete literally told them to "Reel it in Reel it in" because the show was getting off topic and he needed to keep the show on track (due to time restrictions I'm sure)
- Pete's rant about Hollywood and Vine (aka Vile)
- Kevin's rant about people on the bus vs wheelchairs, it was honest and to the point and told it like it was/is
- There have been a few occasions where one member of the team disagreed with others comments or thoughts, both sides made great points about why they don't like an attraction but clarified that it was just not for them. Craig has done this a few times, as has JeniLynn and Pete. The way they project their thoughts are clear and precise and they clarify why something does not work for them but may work for someone else.
- Pete/John/Kevin have all made colorful remarks about being gay (and man did their comments come out of left field and I laughed soooo hard, I would go into specifics...but there have been a few and one involved something from behind... LOL)
- Oh and the new? line about clutching their pearls when they have an OMG moment!! Priceless.
- Ryno's Dinosaur's reference.. "I'm the baby gotta love me" (that had a few people talking and reminiscing)
- Pete's interjection about Tomorrowland , He puts in his opinion about the show just as John started this news about Disney. (it was not really on topic of what John was talking about but he made it relevant and had a great discussion about it)
-LOVE the chance to talk to the team during live shows, as well as to other listeners. It really starts to feel like a family when we can all talk together no matter how far apart we are!!
Last but not least
- When Pete moved his glasses down his nose, looked over his glasses right at the camera, and told people to donate to Give Kids the World. (sorry don't recall his exact wording)
-Pete, has on numerous occasions has, again right at the camera, told Disney that they suck (for lack of a better term) whether it be a dining experience, cast member interaction, or dining plan roll out. How much more point blank and blunt do people want him to be (and it is LIVE, not rehearsed or edited)

The chemistry of the team is great! They each bring something different and unique to the table, the shows where they each explained how they came to the DIS and how Disney has changed their lives is a perfect example of how unique they each are. The thing I loved about these shows was how each of their stories are all things I can relate to, as I am sure so many others can relate to also. I posted a message on Pete's page that pretty much sums it up.

The 7in7's have been great, and I think that JeniLynn, Teresa and Dustin should do some outside Disney Park excursions. All based in Florida, such as the beach, Daytona boardwalk shop areas, more restaurants, shopping, or other points of interest that a family can enjoy that has to do other then Disney. It does not have to be as in depth as the other DIS 7in7's but take some live video, or camera pics etc. They have done some like the chocolate factory they went to.

So all in all, I love the way the show progresses, love the chemistry, love the set up.

Not much to complain about at all, but I have seen occasions where fans try to reach out to the team and they are not responded to. NOW I 100% get that you all have lives and obviously deserve privacy and I know that you all probably get some unwanted unprovoked negative attention, but if there is a honest fan that asks questions or sends messages that the team could try to get back to them when ever possible. For the most part, I have had great interaction with some team members, but hard as I have tried, one member (I am not naming names) never got back to me....I am sure this person is swamped but I have messaged (through facebook and yes I am a friend of their's ) them a few times to tell the member how much I loved the show, asked the member about info from a business person point of view but to the best I can tell the messages went unread. Again, this is not a shot at the member, because as a business person also, I know how busy things get. Sometimes us fans need some clarification or other info of what was talked about on the show, so it is nice to get some feedback

The only other thing I would like to see is more reviews of dining in or out of the parks, other local hotels, traveling in Florida by car, or walking through the different areas of the park with the DIS team so we can see it from their point of view. There are so many new viewers, new Disney fans like myself that could use the teams expertise. It is easy to get "lost" in the parks, and just wander around and miss the true beauty of the park, but if had overviews with a team member, that could be sooo beneficial to sooo many.

So all in all, love the show, more outings would be great (example Let Kathy take video and do an overview to go with her blog about Animal Kingdom), Keep in touch with the fans. Fan interaction is a great way to keep view-ship. I love it when Kevin, Dustin, Craig interject during shows and mention the people talking on line (pardon the spelling 'Chatteratti')

:thanks:Keep up the great work!

If you also follow the Podcast team on Facebook you will find that we do "talk" with the listeners. I hear from listeners on a daily basis and always respond. Just because you might not see a public response doesn't mean that we didn't respond.

Oh totally, you ladies and gents are great. It is wonderful when we see responses and posts from the Team.

Kathy, you and a couple others have all have been wonderful.

I love interacting with you Kathy. Your pictures are really out of this world, and they all make me long for Disney all the more. Your personality really comes out in your pictures and posts, and well I can say that I have a new appreciation for Figment, and that is because of you.

The one private message I sent to one of the team was more of a business/personal related and would not likely be brought forward on the show or anywhere else just due to the nature of my question.

For the most part, when someone sends a Facebook message you can see if it was read or not, the one I sent went un-read.
By no means am I throwing stones, because like I had said, I know how busy you all are, and I am aware that you all probably get some pretty whacky messages from people, and no doubt are bombarded on a daily basis. I can only imagine how hard it is too keep up. Being a small business owner myself I know what it is like to be pulled in 50 ways at once, leaves little time for much else.

What I was trying to say is I love the interaction, Live shows enable people to have that instant interaction with the team, to ask questions, maybe if there was some way to get questions answered either on the show or somewhere would be great. In my case, the one question was totally off topic from the DIS/Podcast/etc but was an honest question, and I directed it to someone that I thought could give me the best knowledgeable answer. I sent it through Facebook because I did not want it to get lost in email neverland or caught in spam or overlooked with all their other business related emails.

I hope you understand what I am trying to explain. :) I do mean it with the best intentions.

I would love to have the cameras follow around a Podcaster and do a Day in the Life of...

Top picks:
John
T
Craig

Please, someone, anyone, move the mic out of the camera's view of Kevin's face. :-)

Other than that, I've really got nothing. I love the podcasts and just encourage you all to keep up the great work!

I hope you don't think I'm offended by your feedback. I'm not.

But I do have things I want to say.

1. At this point, I think we have shown our true selves. We have even done a show telling out listeners how we fell in love with Disney and where we are now in our relationship and why. Fake excitement will read as just that. What you see is what you get. I'm always honest about my Disney emotions.

2. I think our video output is on point. You can find video of practically everything that happens at Disney. We even have videos of nothing happening except what can be seen from park bench.

3. This is the one that made want to respond. We do several shows a week. We participate in meets all over the country. We hold parties for our listeners in really cool places (Diagon Alley). We book cruises and travel with 700 hundred of our listeners and friends. We are out and about and encourage people to come and say hello when they see us. We met 8 yesterday at Chef Mickeys. Almost all of us are on Facebook. Almost all of us are on Twitter. We ask our listeners to email us and we respond when we can. We have done shows where we talk about our personal lives. We have laughed and cried and loved and lost and shared it all with our listeners. I am here responding to you now. if this is not enough to show you that we care....I'm pretty sure that nothing posted on these boards will fill that void.

I have said this before and I think it bears repeating...

The Podcast is not my actual job. I have a job with Dreams Unlimited Travel and The DIS with responsibilitiues and the Podcast is not one of them. The Podcast takes an enormous chunk of time away from my other responsibilities...but I like doing it.

We like the feedback and we try to make changes that we think will make the most listeners happy, but when I read something like "make your fans feel like you guys actually care about your listeners"....I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I don't know what else to do to show people that we care about our listeners.

I'm not willing to show much more of our private life than we do now.

If what we do isn't enough.....I'm sorry.

Please, someone, anyone, move the mic out of the camera's view of Kevin's face. :-)

We have tried.

There is no where else to put the microphone.

If I move it to the other side...it's in the shot for Teresa/Corey/JeniLynn.

If I move it further away...it's in John's shot.

I have been listening to/watching the podcast for a very long time. Years longer than I have been posting on this board under this ID.

One thing that has been consistent throughout the years is the willingness of the team to interact with the listeners. Almost to the point of wondering how they can keep up with it all.

The only thing I would add as a suggestion would be more dining reviews. I am sure it gets boring if you have been to some of these resteraunts 10 times but I really enjoyed them and I think they provided a great insight for people who have not been to a lot of sit down places.

THANK YOU KEVIN! Your response really means a lot! And please note that I appreciate your straight-forward responses..

1. You bring up a valid point about "fake excitement", perhaps I misinterpreted the facial expressions of some podcasters on certain shows for a lack of excitement. I have sporadically participated as a guest on some YouTube podcasts about WDW so I was basing it on my personal experience from my time on those channels, but then again, perhaps when you participate on a podcast on a weekly basis it becomes more of a normal conversation and that is not necessarily a bad thing as you mention.

2. Perhaps I must have overlooked these, I was more so referring to cutting to a video inside a podcast episode, but I will search for the videos that you are mentioning.. They sound interesting!

3. You bring up a valid point about the meets, I was more so basing my statement on online interaction as I currently do not reside in Florida and have hence not had the opportunity to experience the in-person meets, I plan to hopefully move back to Florida in the coming year and hope to be able to participate in some of these events in the near future!

Keep doing what you do! You have just won me over as your newest fan!
