Aloha! This thread has been created to serve as an "schedule" of sorts for those of us staying through out the summer at the Poly resort. I know a lot of us go on vacation and bring lots of goodies with us, buy lots of goodies along the way, and then when it is time to leave, there are things we just don't need to bring home with us, or we have no room to bring home with us. This is where the idea of "paying it forward" comes in. Instead of throwing away those goodies and things that may have been helpful to us on our vacation, but have no need for anymore, why not "re-gift" those items to a family about to start their fabulous vacation on our way out when they are on their way in?

But how? You may ask. This concept is very simple and Disney makes it as easy as asking Bell services for a package with your name on it! To begin the process, the first family will simply volunteer to start the "Pay it Forward" box. When they are ready to leave, this family will place items they no longer need, or can fit into their belongings, into a box or storage bin that can be closed and sealed, and they place the next family's name on the box. Before leaving the Poly, they drop the box off at the Bell Services desk for Bell services to store until the family arrives. That's IT! The next family to arrive, collects the package from Bell services and takes what they would like to use from the box, and adds items to bless the next family with before returning it to Bell services. Each family repeats this process adding things they would like to bless the next family with. It's a way to share in the magic of Disney, save a little $$, and help your fellow DISers out. You can feel good about knowing you helped another family, instead of just wasting things you can't take with you.

Items that have been blessed to other families in the past have been things such as coffee, snacks, breakfast items, unused bottles of water, misting fans, swimming pool toys, sunscreen, beach towels, visors and baseball caps, crayons and activity books for small children, bubbles, and many other neat little items.

You do not have to use every item in the box, nor do you have to place many items in the box. Just add a few things you would hate to see go to waste or thrown away simply because you can't use it all or have no room to bring it home with you.

If this sounds like something fun and interests you, PLEASE JOIN in the Pay it Forward list! I have created a sign up below. Simply reply or message me letting me know your dates of arrival and dates of departure and I will add you to the list. Before you leave, I will let you know the last name of the family you will be blessing so you can place their name on the box before you leave. I hope we can keep this going through out the summer!

We will be at the Poly on Aug 3, 4 and 5. What a super idea! Thank you for organizing this.

...!
Have you discussed this with Bell Services?

This is a very good point.

I have not, however, many other resorts on Disney property have done something similar to this with very little problem. I have also done pass it on type things with umbrellas, and strollers in previous years. Bell services will hold packages that you mail to the resort for yourself, and they will hold other items for you. Last year a young family left an umbrella stroller for me at the Wilderness Lodge to pick up. I just gave bell services the name and ticket number it was being held under and everything was fine.

There's a FB group for this and I've seen it work very well. I like the idea of a single (or, who knows how big this will become) box- I'm imagining something like a rubbermade tote that can stand some wear- that can be reloaded with goodies. It seems like it may be worth it simply for the surprise of what was 'blessed' to you. Hopefully this can be started at other resorts as well.

One thing that seems to be mentioned in the FB group and not here is that generally Bell Services will provide you with a receipt that the next guest needs to present in order to collect the parcel. They usurp this little dilemma by messaging the new recipient a picture of the receipt and that has been acceptable for claiming the left behind provisions.

Hope this project helps many families have a more magical time.

We'll be there September 5th-12th, if you all are interested in keeping it rolling a bit longer. Travelling with 2 little ones and grandma is joining us for part of the time, so anything "extra" we don't have to pack is a major bonus!

I'd be curious to know if people bring anything specific to add, I know we usually have our leftovers at the end (unused ponchos, extra sunscreen, maybe some snacks), but do people bring other goodies just for the sake of adding them?

Travelgirl06, added you to the list. Please message me your family last name. You may bring anything you like to add to the bin. Someone suggested bringing something mickey, something poly, and something useful to add to the box. Just to add a little extra sprinkle of pixie dust. Maybe some mickey stickers, a cup or small souvenier item like a keyring from the poly, and maybe a poncho, umbrella, or snacks? I thought it was a pretty awesome idea!

We'll be there Dec 10-15 if this keeps going that long!!! I would love to dust the next family with pixie dust pixiedust:pixiedust:especially since I don't have kids.

How about adding to the box
Something Mickey
Something Poly
Our Family (or ME for solo travelers) - something that is all about your family. For me and dd it might be a book that we read at the pool.

Don't want to complicate things but I thought it would be fun to see what the previous family/person would put in. :)

Sorry...we'll be arriving 7/3 and checking out on 7/5. If there aren't guests immediately before/after us, what happens? Just wondering before we commit.
