Do you wear a helmet while riding on a motorcycle?
(operating or passenger)

(multiple choice)

*I have never been on a motorcycle or a moped.
They were totally forbidden when I was a kid and I never had a desire to be on one as an adult.
If I ever was on one though I would be wearing a helmet.
My DH was a volunteer fireman for 14 years and he's gone to many motorcycle crash scenes where the outcome was really really bad.
(this poll was created because I have a facebook friend that posted a picture of them on their motorcycle without a helmet on, and it's been 3 years since someone I graduated HS with died due to a motorcycle accident and he didn't have a helmet on)

I have not been on a motorcycle since I was a child and I wore a helmet.

My husband rides, and I am occasionally(very occasionally) a passenger.

Helmets are always worn even when we lived in a state where you didn't have to. It's just plain stupid not to wear one.

I don't currently have a motorcycle, but when I did, I always wore a helmet. It's the law here, but I'd wear one anyway. In fact, I always wore a full-face helmet. I couldn't take the wind on my eyes at anything over about 30 MPH, even with sunglasses.

I've never been on a motorcycle but if I did I'd wear a helmet. We rented mopeds once on vacation but can't remember if they came with helmets or not.

My husband used to have a motorcycle and we both wore full face helmets. I can't even imagine not wearing a helmet.

I didn't realize wearing a helmet was optional. I have never driven or been on a motorcycle and have no interest. A person in an accident on a motorcycle I'm sure would be better off with a helmet but honestly it seems as though that would be like putting a band-aid on a wound that needs 20+ stitches. Just my opinion of course.

I have never been on a motorcycle and have to desire to ever be on one.....but I would wear one. Common sense.
I live in a state that you don't have to and I see many, many people not wearing them.....very sad.

We used to have a motorcycle and always wore full helmets. It used to be law here to wear them. I like our governor but was very disappointed in him when he repealed that law. Stupidest thing he's done I think. And I feel anyone who drives or is a passenger on one is stupid if they don't wear one.

I live in RI and it not a law to wear a helmet here. I don't get it...I have been a passenger a few times and always wore a helmet.
I read somewhere once that if you need an organ transplant, move to a state with no helmet laws and you increase your odds of getting one by like 60% (just guessing on those numbers).

Helmets are optional in this state (AZ) so my "driver" frequently doesn't wear one. I work for a police department and to be perfectly honest, the officers tell me that in the fatal collisions around here involving motorcycles, the helmet didn't help.

I have gone without one exactly 1 time, and that was staying within the neighborhood. I feel better having one, but I know there's a chance it won't help.

I've never been on a motorcycle and don't ever plan to. I lost 2 family members to motorcycle crashes, both young men in their late teens and early 20s.

I enforce a helmet rule for family members that ski, cycle, and skateboard.

I've never ridden a motorcycle, but I must admit that I love the idea of taking a few months and seeing the country on the back of a bike. If my husband and I were to ever do that, you can rest assured that we would both be wearing helmets. I've grown rather fond of my brain and would like to protect it. He's the same way.

Its the law here-in Texas not a law-crazy to ride without one

2 weeks ago DH and I were driving to the State park on back roads-very curvy
3 motorcycles decided to pass u right before a curb-these were the "crotch rockets"-not Harley types
They were going SUPER fast....I could see a vehicle coming in the distance past the curve
When the 3rd one passed us he swung too far to the right and hit edge of road-his motorcycle went to the ditch to right and he started sliding down the road in front of us. THANK GAWD he had a helmet -all scratched up
also-thank the Lord he didn't slide into the oncoming lane!!!
Everyone stopped -he seemed dazed...guy with truck was going to drive him to a quick care
Only 1 of his buddies realized what happened and returned

I rode on the back of a motorcycle once and got down and kissed the ground when I got off. I only went a few blocks and was never so scared in my life. I did have on a helmet.

That being said in Pennsylvania it is not a law and the first thought I have every time I see a helmetless rider is organ donor. Two of my brothers rode motorcycles for a long time. They both wore helmets thankfully as both were in crashes. My one brother had a couple of relatively minor crashes, just a broken leg both times. My other brother I am thankful every June 30th he is still here with us. A driver made an illegal left hand turn in front of my brother and they collided. My brother was estimated to have flown about 30 feet from the crash. His helmet had a dent that was about 4" long, 2" wide and at least 1" deep. If that had been his head he would have died instantly. Thankfully he always rode with jeans, a leather jacket and military jump boots. The jacket had no sleeve left and the jump boots saved him from losing his foot. He just had a shattered ankle that still bothers him 28 years later. The first thing he said to my mother right before he was taken into surgery was "I picked out my next bike." I thought my mother was going to kill him.

I will not ride a bike and my kids knew that they would not be allowed to own one as long as they lived in my house. Only my youngest DD ever wanted a bike and she has 3 kids now so it isn't practical, thankfully.

I don't ride but we have many friends who do. They are the locals down at the Dragon in Tennessee/ North Carolina. They live by ATTGAT; All The Gear, All The Time. That means helmet, full leathers, boots and gloves. Anytime you swing a leg over a bike.

DH & I were motorcyclists for decades. He was the driver, and I the passenger. We always wore helmets, never left home without them. :)

Dsil (DH's older sister) was a nurse on a head injuries ward so we had a heads up.

I've never been on a motorcycle, but if I rode one, I would wear a helmet.

This poll reminds me of the Jerry Seinfeld bit:

I have never been on a motorcycle and really don't have much of a desire to get on one.

Seeing that helmets are required by law in MA, always. Heck even if they weren't we would, kinda value my brain. We did research on the best ones, they were expensive but worth every dime.
