Question about disembarkation time on last day

Hello!

Sorry if this has been asked before but I could not find any information...

What exactly happens on the last day? I saw that for our cruise disembarkation starts at 7 am - does that mean that we need to be ready to leave the ship by that time?

It means that barring any complications with customs, the ship opens for debarkation at 7:00am. You can depart the ship any time between opening and 9:00 (I think It's 9, might be 8:30) and you have to be off by 9:00.

You will be assigned a breakfast time based on whether you are first or second seating for dinner. If you have the first seating, then your assigned breakfast time will be around 6:45 to 7:00. Late seating has a breakfast time around 8:00. They want everyone off the ship by 9:00am. You can always skip breakfast or grab something from Cabanas. Cabanas has limited hours for breakfast on the last morning.

If you want to do express walk off, then yes, you would need to be ready to leave the ship at 7:00am. If you have early seating, then yes, you need to have everything ready by 7:00am. I believe they want everyone out of the staterooms by around 8:00am.

Brilliant, thank you! :)

We have the second seating, so we should be able to manage breakfast around 8... I was fearing having to wake up really early on our last day!

What is the express walk off?

What is the express walk off?

Express walk off is for people who want to get off the ship as early as possible, often because they have an early flight time or they are headed to the parks and want an early start. Instead of putting your luggage in the hallway the night before, you keep your luggage with you and carry it off the ship yourself. As soon as the ship is cleared by customs (around 7:00), you can walk off the ship and head through customs. It will mean a shorter line at customs.

With the 2nd seating you can either go to the breakfast seating at 8:00, or to the buffet restaurant. the restaurant gives you one last time with your servers while the buffet gives you even more flexibility. Relax and enjoy the morning and go ahead and be one of the last ones off the ship

I think they'll have to drag me off the ship... I'm not leaving without a fight! :stitch2:

We're in no rush, so we'll definitely aim to make the most of our last precious moments on board!!

One note: you have to be out of your cabin by 8am.

I always skip the MDR for breakfast that last day - I find those meals rushed and not enjoyable. I like Cabanas because I can go a bit more at my own pace. Typically we have had to get off early for flights, but on our last cruise we were still in Cabanas when they turned off the music and started closing the food stations! :) My goal was accomplished - we didn't walk off until 9!

That has me written all over it.

I think we're going to cancel our MCO transfer and rent a car instead. I'd much rather spend a few hours at DTD than in the airport.

So you know, nothing but breakfast venues and Shutters is open on that day. There's nothing to do but sit or stand around. Nothing wrong with that, but it's worth knowing.

Have to be out of the room, with your stuff, at 8.

if you book a transfer to the airport....how will that impact your breakfast and disembark times. Anyone have experience with this ??

No impact. You still eat/debark at whatever time you wish (as long as it's by 9:00). The busses to the airport depart as they fill up. The last bus will be held to ensure that everyone onboard who requires the transport has left the ship, so it will be later leaving.

And, jumping from this, they don't require you to move to leave the ship until 9 so the buses recognize that some might just be getting on the gangplanks at 9, and still have Customs to go through. You won't get out of Customs and find no one there to take you.

Some thing to consider for late breakfast.... your luggage.
  • heavy luggage should be checked... you can't keep it in your room.
  • If you drag your larger luggage to the restaurant to be a walk-off... staff will pile them up (high) with other cruiser luggage at the entrance to keep the aisle and seating area clear for servers. Don't be surprised to hear your luggage come crashing down as other cruiser needs to leave earlier than you.
  • please double-check you are grabbing your luggage and not another cruiser's.
  • they may separate you from your larger carry-on's too.
Love the late breakfast.... you are seated and pampered when you are waiting for your assigned debarkation time. You paid for it, don't rush off too quickly.

I would point out that the reason they want people off the vessel by 0900 and out of your stateroom at 0800 is that the CM's have a lot of work to do to get the vessel public areas clean, organized and ready for the next group of passengers.

As a courtesy to the CM's, I would suggest not hanging to late! As pointed out by previous posters, there isn't anything to do!

AKK

Exactly. And think about how YOU would feel if YOUR boarding was delayed because they had to drag people off the cruise before yours.

Another option is to hit the buffet as soon as it opens and leave your stuff in your room. Then go back to your room and retrieve everything. As long as you're out the room by 8:00 there's no problem.

We've been on 2 Disney cruises and am curious in case we did it wrong. On the first cruise, we ate breakfast and went to a lounge waiting for our luggage tag to be called (think it was Tinkerbell). No announcements occurred so we eventually got up and in line and off the ship we went. On the second cruise, we ate breakfast and immediately got in line to depart.

Is there an announcement / organized method we should have followed? Or once the Express Walk is done you can basically leave at any time?

I can say on both cruises everyone appeared to be confused on what to do. On the second, there were a bunch of folks sitting in the bar outside of the breakfast area waiting for an announcement.

There is only announced tags departures on Alaska cruises.
