I've seen a lot of newer questions about cruising out of NYC
Upon searches I keep running into a older thread from 2012 that had Help a lot of NYC cruisers at the time.
However most is outdated.. I thought the 2012, 2016, and local cruisers could compile some new information to help us all out..
I will try to keep the 1st post up to date as much as I can..

Please Remember....
I'm only human and if something on my 1st post in incorrect please let me know so I may fix it.

Pictures of the drive to the port via the GWB and port entrance can be found in this thread at posts 88 and 89.

You can also stay at my house in NYC! Wow I can't wait for cruises to leave from NYC!!!!!

Looking at today's hotel rates and parking fees.
We may need to! :rotfl: We are driving down from Boston

I can only imagine what the rates will be for oct 28th 2016..

Are there any hotels that do a Stay/Park/Cruise package in the NY/NJ area?

I've been looking in both NYC and NJ.. I haven't come across any..
If anyone has some info please share!

Depending on departure day, you could theoretically stay outside New York (in ct or nj) and go to the port on departure day. Weekdays or holidays may make this less feasible due to traffic.

When we did this cruise in 2012 we flew in the day before and stayed at the Marriott next to the airport. I think for this trip we'll take Amtrak (coming from Boston) into Penn Station the day before and stay at the New York Marriott Marquis (we have a ton of Marriott rewards points), and I think DCL will offer transfers from there, to the port. They did this in 2012.

Anyway, does taking a taxi from Penn Station to the NY Marriott sound like the easiest/best idea?? I have mobility and health issues, so walking is out of the question, especially with the luggage we'll have. :)

Yeah use Uber if possible too they are VERY accessible in New York and your prices I believe might be predetermined so you won't have someone taking advantage of tourists

Pre-determined to a degree. Uber does still do surge pricing though, so you're taking a risk.

As far as cabs, know the cross-streets of where you're going. When you get in give them the ADDRESS (not the name of the hotel) and say "between X and Y". Example (NOT to a hotel, but this is how you'd do it): "717 9th Ave between 48th and 49th". They will figure you know where you're going and take the most direct route (though honestly most cab drivers I've encountered DO take you the most direct route - but there ARE one way streets that can't be taken the other way, so sometimes going around blocks IS in fact necessary.

I know people on here seem to not like anything short of 4-star, but there are some super nice Hampton Inns around all over Manhattan from the financial district to the theatre district.

When you are looking at where to stay, be sure to factor in transportation hassle and costs from NJ or CT, especially if you're not driving and especially if you plan to sightsee in Manhattan before the cruise. Once that car fare or train fare is factored in, you may be just as good staying in Manhattan proper.

We will be taking the train out of Boston as well and are planning on staying at the Marriott Marquis or the Hilton Times Square. What sailing are you on? We are doing the Canadian sailing Oct 2nd.

We're doing the Oct 22nd Bahamas sailing.

We are looking at the same hotels..
Although we may do one closer to the port on Friday night and then on the return stay in one of these

I don't know of too many hotels (at least not ones I'd dare to stay in - and I'm not super picky about hotels) closer to the port (on 11th/West Side Highway) than 8th Ave. So if you're looking at the Times Square/Theatre District area, you might as well just stay put. The aforementioned Hampton Inn Times Square North (I think that's what they're calling it now) is going to be about a block or so closer.

Excellent advice!!! ::yes:: In addition to not wanting to over-pay for the taxi, I just want to get to the hotel ASAP. :sunny: lol

We're going to stay at the Marriott Marquis because it won't cost us anything due to an over abundance of Marriott Rewards points; also, in 2012 DCL offered transfers from that hotel to the pier, so I'm hoping that they offer them again. If not, we'll take a taxi from the hotel to the port.

You're welcome! A friend of mine told me that when I was flying in to look at a school and staying with her - she knew I was going to be tired as it was a LATE flight, and the more tired I am the more my usually hidden southern accent comes out. She said "Give him these exact directions (she gave me her address and cross streets) and he will assume you're a college student who knows where you live." And there was no problem!

The Marquis is nice - my family and I stayed there over Christmas a couple of years ago. It's not super far from the pier if it's a nice day and you don't have that much luggage. (Obviously I've become a New Yorker as I tend to walk pretty much everywhere so my sense of "far" is probably skewed. Ha!)
