Ugh! Why did I wait to buy airline tickets?

We are going in October and I usually buy tickets 6 months out. At the time it was around $1400 for 4 tickets NJ to FL. Now, just a month or so later it's $1800. I kind of want to wait it out a little bit, but the plane is starting to fill up for the flights we want!

Ugh! That's all. At least in the end we'll be in Disney!

Have you tried all the tricks, like cleanning out your computer history, looking at all the different sights?

I'll be watching this as tickets are ridiculous for me too. Southwest sold out of their cheap flights at the time I wanted and they are the only nonstop in town. Delta is one stop but for a similar price to SW with seat selection included. Didn't think about cleaning out computer history. Will do that now. Any other good tips?

I also checked Southwest and ALL of their wanna get away direct flights are sold out!!! I'm looking for return flights from MCO to Chicago on November 14th.

I have heard so many people saying this year that Southwest sold out of their wanna get away seats quickly. First free dining allotments and then this. You have a great attitude about it though.

I use the Kayak APP and use airports within 50 miles or whatever it is and check EVERY day AT LEAST 3 times a day. It paid off for me yesterday. The EXACT flight I wanted had been at $252 (One way) for months and all of a sudden dropped to $212. I jumped on it! It's for a November flight.

The second your fights go down, no matter how much I would buy. Also, be sure to check multiple airlines(for two one ways) and like I said multiple airports. It can make a HUGE difference.

Did you trying shifting your dates slightly? Arriving one day earlier (adding on to our trip) saved us about $300 on our flight.

This is from NJ to Orlando in August.

No availability for all rooms to shift my dates. Still working on that idea - though I don't like it for the most part.

I don't know about cleaning the history????

We can actually get tickets to Tampa for about $1000 less!!!!! The problems... Flights are not at times we want (could deal with), can't use Magical Express (makes it more annoying), would need to rent a car (don't want to).

Thinking I should just book them and deal with it rather than having them go up more. Boooo!

For $1000 less, you can bet we'd fly into Tampa. We fly into Sanford (out of Lehigh Valley if you are in NW jersey...) and it so much quieter and easier to deal with than MCO. I've never flown into Tampa, but I've heard similar comments.

I didnt buy our October WDW flights until August last year. I know every airline and departure city is different, but I think there's still some time for the prices to fall for you (hopefully!).

GOOD LUCK maybe you'll snag a cheaper flight!:goodvibes I typically book ours around 7 months or 6 and a half months, then watch the "fares go up"! I start "watching" the fares at about 9 months to get a handle on fare price..Ours is already SOLD OUT for October!:scared1:

I've heard airlines are decreasing flights, and always flying full, increasing prices. My sister was looking for flights to Florida from Chicago at Christmas, and they were over $800 each.

I would expand your search of departing airports. Not sure where in NJ you are but we always get great deals on Spirit flying out of Atlantic City. Some people don't like Spirit but we have always had success flying out of ACY with them. I'm a bargin hunter and usually aim for and find tickets under $120/person. Then there is bag fees and seat fees (not necessary) which
AT MOST adds $45/person (depending on how many bags you bring).
Flexible dates are most important to finding good airfare.
Also, I agree that you are still a ways out from travel, I would keep watching.

I love hunting for airfare, if you want to give out your exact dates.

Definitely try this. I was waiting for Southwests dates to be released for November, and the day they came out I bought. I wanted Nov. 1-9th. Flights on those days were $174 each way from BDL to MCO for the wanna get away fare. October 31 and Nov 10th the flights were $92 each way. So we are traveling a day earlier and coming home a day later and paying almost half as much for our flights.

This is what I'm hoping will happen for my August dates. I'm holding out! There are still plenty of seats on the flights I'm looking at, and all of the air fare sale e-mails I get are for flights within 4-6 weeks of the dates of the sale. Jet Blue just released one but from itineraries from NYC the cheap prices are only through mid-June.

Have you considered flying out of Philly? We live in central NJ and generally find much better fares out of PHL than EWR. It's an extra half hour of driving for us, but savings have been considerable. I just bought tickets for our last-minute July trip. I was tracking Southwest fares for a couple of weeks, and they were consistently about $126 each way. I checked on a whim last Friday and saw they dropped to $73! I had to be flexible with flight times, but snatched them right up and wound up paying almost half the price I would have paid for tickets out of EWR. (They were about $300 r/t per person... not including luggage!) The key is to remain flexible. Good luck!

Can you fly out of a different airport?

We are 20 minutes from PHL. We are flying down on a Wednesday and back the Saturday before Labor Day. Going down flights have gone down to $73 but coming back is over $230 for the non stop flights we want in the afternoon.

We are flying out of Baltimore now. It's a 90 minute drive but we are saving over $500.

I guess it's harder because we like to fly JetBlue. It's hard to switch airlines when you are working on accumulating points. I'll wait it out a little longer and see what happens!!!!

I just booked JetBlue out of philly to Fort Lauderdale 11-21 returning 12/5 for five people for $731. They had some amazing rates.
