How long does it usually take to get from MCO to Poly using DME? Land at 11:55am on a Wednesday and made 2pm lunch ressies at Kona Cafe. Should that work?

I would say play it by ear…If you're there in time to get lunch at Kona, do a walk-up. They aren't usually booked solid at lunch I don't think. If you don't get there in time, then you can grab something from Captain Cook's (which is also quite good in relation to some of the other resort quick services - at least IMO) :-)

Appreciate all the feed back on travel time from MCO to poly! I guess I'll cancel Kona reservation! Hate to get stuck with a $160 charge for not being there in time! Thanks!

Considering switching from WL due to construction for dec 5/11 2015...what is going on with poly construction? We would choose least $$ view. How far is the walk to food/monorail ? (Hubby is blind)... Also can you get an adult size chicken nugget from Capt cooks? Haven't stayed at poly since 1998.

I just (this morning) switched to the Polynesian from WL for our summer trip. It's been 6 years since we've stayed at PR and I'm really excited about it :flower1:

I think for December you'd be making a good call. Looks as though work over at WL will begin in September, although it could get delayed. WL at Christmas is so stunning. It would be a shame to miss that...
I switched for the larger room and the tropical atmosphere.

At the Polynesian, you could request ground floor, close to GCH and be very close to monorail (although it is up the steps/elevator) and Captain Cook's/Kona/'Ohana.
The East pool (quiet pool) is scheduled to still be closed and being refurbished, but hopefully that won't cause too much of a problem in December. Good luck!

Here's a link to the Capt. Cook's menu. They seem to only have chicken nuggets on the Kids Menu https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/polynesian-resort/capt-cooks/menus/lunch/

There are 2 kinds of chicken nuggets at disney. Small circles usually in the kids meals. My kids prefer the chicken nuggets. You can get those over at GF at gaspies and pool bar.

On a side note that kids meal chicken skewers and pineapple is a great light meal or snack. When not staying at poly I head over just for that, yum! Goes great with Dolewhip too!

28 HOURS until we take off on a plane to Disney World/Polynesian!!!! How am I supposed to get any work done today! lol :jumping1::jumping1::jumping1:
Woohoo! I'm so excited for you!
If you get a chance, please come back here and tell us how much fun you are having at our beloved Poly!
Thanks and have a great trip!

Hi guys,

This is my first time posting over on this side - we did a cruise a few months ago and are hooked! We are booked again for Feb 27, 2017 and considering tacking on a day at WDW in advance of our cruise this time. I know that will never be enough time to see it all, and frankly, I am not sure we want to at this point. Our kids will be 5 and 3, so young and impatient. We were thinking of flying in on Thursday, Feb 25 (flight would get in between 5 and 730 pm) and then taking the Magic Express to stay at the Poly. A few questions:

- We would like to keep costs low, since this is an add-on to our cruise. The pricing for a Deluxe Villa is better, what is the difference?
- If we get in at 5 and are at the resort by 7, could we do the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show? What time does it start? Do kids love it? Is it difficult to get an 800 reservation?
- What time does the character breakfast start? Again, is it hard to get a reservation?
- If we decide not to do Magic Kingdom, is there enough to do at this resort to entertain a 3 and 5 year old? If we only go to Magic Kingdom for 4 hours, will it be worth it?
- The website lists a dining cruise with fireworks - is that to see the Fireworks Display at Magic Kingdom? Is it pricy? Difficult to book? Kid-friendly?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Brandy

Can anyone who has been there recently give me room/longhouse request advice? We arrive in 2 weeks. We have a 7 year old DS and our daughter is turning 3 while we are there. We have a standard garden room booked. We plan to spend most of the time in the parks, but if DD wants to go back for a nap, husband wants to be able to hop off the monorail or boat and be back to the room fairly quickly while DS and I stay in the park. This also means probably somewhat away from construction though so there is less noise during a mid-day nap, although I know since the quiet pool has not started renovation yet that can be hard to predict. Any suggestions are welcome, although we have been to WDW 6 times, this is our first time ever at the Poly!

Does anyone know if there are still any CL garden view rooms that don't face the east pool? I know for awhile there were garden view rooms that faced the beach side due to the construction walls, but those might have all turned back into LV rooms now. We were just wondering if we should either upgrade to LV CL or downgrade to regular garden view as we do not really want to be facing the east pool construction (in September).

Also another question, one of my favorite pastti es at the poly in the past has been laying out in the hammocks, I read somewhere that they've removed the hammocks around the resort. Does anyone know if that's accurate? If so, will they be putting those back or are they pretty much gone forever?

Thanks!

I like Niue b/c it's very small and very close to the GCH and bus stop. I love not having to use elevators or walk down long hallways. Niue is also close to the quiet pool, however, so you may prefer to avoid it if they are going to be working on that pool.
I have never stayed on the "other" side of the Polynesian marina, but seems it might be best for avoiding noise. I've always thought it would be cool to stay in Fiji - and it has Standard views and would not have parking lot views.

If you plan to do online check-in, you can check up to two of the following: (keep in mind that "Hawaii building" is not a valid option since it is all club level rooms)

  • Balcony
  • Ground Floor
  • Second Floor
  • Upper Floor
  • Lower Floor
  • Near Elevator
  • Patio
  • Aotearoa Building
  • Fiji Building
  • Hawaii Building
  • Niue Building
  • Rarotonga Building
  • Samoa Building
  • Tuvalu Building

Yes! We should arrive by 4pm! I didn't request a building for the studio part of my stay. I just requested adjoining rooms(my parents, brother, nieces and nephew arrive Thursday) and ground floor. So exciting for you! We are almost there!! :yay: We are only there until Sunday afternoon. We are going back in October and wanted to squeeze in one more trip before our APs expire the end of this month.

We leave Saturday. I'm sooo excited! We won't be in the bungalows (that's amazing!!) Enjoy! :flower::daisy:

Not too much longer!!! It's amazing how fast this trip has popped up! We are only in the bungalows for 2 nights, the first 2 nights are in a studio. Those points per night are insane :faint:, but my mom wanted to splurge since she is a new dvc owner at the Poly :cutie:

We arrive Friday morning and get 3 glorious nights in a Bungalow. I figure we can do that once every 2 years and have enough points to do other trips too. I'll be posting while I'm there so keep an eye out for me.

The first time I used DME to the Poly, it was exactly one hour from the time I walked off the plane to the time I walked into my room. The next time it was an hour from the plane to the front desk. But a couple weeks ago, it was a bit over 2 hours from plane to room. You just never know!

Why I use a service now. Had one good DME experince and one that was horrible both ways, that was all it took to out me off it for good.
