DVC Occupancy Thread Part 2

For DVC only GFV and WLV allow 5 in a studio now, guessing Poly will also

I'm not so sure Poly studios are converted hotel rooms so they might be space constrained whereas VWL and VGF are purpose built DVC

From what Tikiman has posted, they are going to be the largest studios on property. Over 400 square feet. According to allearsnet, Poly rooms are 415-476 square feet.

Plus he has posted that connecting will be available, so larger families can book that since the longhouses will be all studios (rumor).

But VWL originally was 4 in a studio. The size is the same as BCV and BWV studios and was changed with the Murphy bed addition. With Poly hotel rooms being one of the largest onsite square footage would not be the issue - only DVCs wish to have studio occupancy higher there. And I bet they want that and will do that.

I've heard that some resort are updating studios to accommodate 5 people like the Poly and GFV. Does anyone know if it's really the case? trying to decide where to stay next time Dh doesn't come along

I'm researching a DVC purchase and this question really matters as to how many points I'd need to buy. If you book a room that on the points chart says sleeps 9 (AKL for instance) does this conversation actually mean that 10 people above 3 could stay there? We are a party of 10 (right now 2 of them are under 3) and the point increase from the 2BR to 3BR is crazy! I'm just trying to plan long-term knowing that kids will eventually be off on their own and not coming with us, but needing 8 or so years where they probably will be travelling with us (our oldest is 13). I am not wanting to sneak kids in, or fly under the radar...I want to follow what Disney allows. If they allow this, and I have to bring my own bedding for them, I'd be fine with that since little kids don't mind sleeping on an air mattress or cot.

No, a party of ten could not stay in a two bedroom villa that sleeps nine unless one was under the age of three.

It doesn't matter how many people you have in your family, if they love to all sleep in the same bed or you'll provide something for them to sleep on. DVC rules state how many people can stay in a specific sized villa. And they currently allow you to add one child under the age of three. With ten, all aged three or older, you'd need a grand villa.

You can go over the occupancy of 9 if the additional over 9 are under 3 years old. For a 2 bedroom lock off, there will probably be a 2 playpen - one in the 1 bedroom portion and 1 in the studio portion. So you should be good with your additional under 3 years old. But once they are 3, if you don't want to spend the extra points on a grand villa, you may have to look into the 2 bedroom unit plus another studio unit. That should work fine if the older members of your party are adults or teens. Some of the studios sleep 5 persons now with the pull down bed. So you could get 2 of those. 2 studios at the Wilderness Lodge would have the lowest point usage.

No, you are limited to one person under the age of three. Not two or three or four or five.... If the OP books a studio, one person in the studio would need to be 18 or older. So until the 13 yr old hit 18, the parents would have to split up or they would need to bring another adult along on the trip to stay in the studio.

Whoops, sorry. Missed the part that their oldest was only 13 years old. Guess I was thinking about when I booked a Disney cruise for our family of 5. It was cheaper to book 2 side by side inside cabins than the family suite that slept 5. And the 2 cabins would have 2 bathrooms and the family suite only 1. On a cruise you do have to book an adult in the cabin but we were told that they didn't care who slept where. And we were comfortable having our older boys sleep right next to our cabin. But it worked out that an extra adult ended up in that cabin anyhow. But with DVC rooms, no guarantees that you will end up next door to one another. Our last trip we were in an ALK Jambo House value 2 bedroom lock off that slept 8 but I noticed with the studio and 1 bedroom units, each had a playpen so I assumed that you could have 2 infants/toddlers in that configuration. But I guess only if you booked the studio and the 1 bedroom separately?

OK, thanks for the clarification. I have seen several discussions where people were talking about being able to bring another guest above the advertised occupancy, it seemed too good to be true for our situation. I'm not interested in splitting between rooms, if I wanted to do that, I'd save a pile of dough and stay in 2 five person rooms in CBR or somewhere similar. I'm looking into DVC because it seems the only way large families like mine can stay together onsite...unfortunately.

Grand Villas at Old Key West are most affordable if you like that property. They are also among the largest in square footage.

I agree and they look like a good option, except from what I've read there are very few of them with a ground floor entrance and most of the buildings do not have elevators...which means if my wife and I split up at the parks and she decides to go back to the resort with the littles, she'd have to lug them and the stroller up stairs. If I'm going to invest this much $$, I can't compromise that kind of stuff that I could get if we just booked hopefully connecting rooms at another onsite resort.

You are right in that you will be unlikely to get one of the ones with an elevator and I don't believe any of them have a 1st floor entrance. The only room outside of a Grand Villa that allows 10 over 3 is a 2 bedroom lock-off at VGF- if you want to get that regularly you need to buy into VGF.

I had a first floor GV at OKW. The master was on the first floor. The other two bedrooms were on the second. I don't know if there is a GV at OKW that is single story. I have had a single story GV at BWVs.

There is no single story GV at OKW, there is ONE GV, an HA unit, with ground floor entry, I think it is in Bldg 48.

Quick question before I trudge through 21 pages of the thread.
We have 4 adults in our party and are currently considering a studio at BC (or possibly BLT) for a trip next year.
When looking at regular bookings through the resort (eg water view at YC), the occupancy says 5, however after 2 adults, you'll be charged a $50 (or is it $25 each?) per adult per night charge.
Is this the case with DVC when staying on points? Or is the occupancy all included in the points?
Does that make sense?

NO additional charges for more guests, just a cutoff of how many are allowed. A BCV studio has a queen and pullout full, not very appealing for 4 adults IMO. OKW has 2 queens and is the only option at WDW that does (VB Inn rooms the other).

With four adults, I wouldn't get a BLT studio. They are really small and more than two adults would be pushing it. OKW studio would probably work better because the room is larger and there are two queen beds. No sleeper sofas. And the bathroom is pretty large, too.
