Disney Purchases Carousel Inn for $32M

The scary thing about this is I was telling my dd this morning that Disney should buy a hotel near DL and create a "value" hotel. o_O
So does this mean I'm channeling Disney execs now? :faint:

I bet they tear it down and build something else in its place...like another hotel or a transit stop or something.

Well, I hope they make it a value hotel similar to the ones at WDW eventually, but I'm guessing parking lot. Or...maybe they'll very slowly buy up that whole block and do something even more amazing like a third park or a bigger value hotel (not holding my breathe on either though).

Disney paid $244,000+ per room. I don't think they'll be turning this property into "value" rooms anytime soon.

Looks like a smart "legacy" acquisition. They have a foothold on neighboring property for the long term future & can collect any profits currently being made in the short-medium term. The Mouse plays a looooong game sometimes.

I'll bet that they will make it into a parking garage. They want to expand and have very little room. They could expand out and level the parking lot to the side of Downtown Disney. The one not too far from ESPN Zone.

There is supposedly a planned parking structure just to the East, so it's conceivable the Carousel Inn will be torn down to create some kind of pedestrian linkage between that parking structure and the parks.

Could this be where they put the new transit center. Weren't they looking to take over the Park Vue Inn last year?

This sounds very reasonable. Disney could circumvent the "eminent domain" argument made by the hoteliers by purchasing the land themselves. This way, no hotel is taken from the owners by the city/county and privately granting this land for the transit center gives Disney more leverage in their push for the trolley system.
