Magic Bands

Hey guys, this is my first experience with Magic Bands. It wants me to add a name that is 9 letters long. What do you use for names? Your real one? That makes me scared if I lose it. A fake name? Or something in between? If you have ANY advice for me using these and the new Disney Experience online, feel free to speak up. It's new to me to even add fast passes online. I'm intimidated. Thanks!

Doesn't really matter. They probably can scan and tell whose they are if lost. We use our pet names for each other....

Use any name you like (it can be up to a maximum of nine letters.)
The name simply does not matter.
It is only so that if you have two or more bands of the same color, you can tell
them apart by looking at the (very tiny) name on them.

That name will not be what is checked when the band is scanned.

Ours just came with our first name on them. What name it has on it isn't going to matter if you lose it. You need a pin number to charge to the room, you need a finger scan with the band to get into the park, and your room number isn't on there anywhere if someone finds it, so they can't just randomly get into your resort room.

I used mine and DH's first names on the band. I'm not worried about it. --For the fastpasses:
1) When you tell them what you want, they give you some pre-planned FP options. If the times aren't exactly what you want, that's okay. Once you get them you can go in and modify the FPs to change the times. Depending on which attraction and how close to the date it is, you should have a bunch of option. (Obviously is you're looking for A&E a week before your trip, then you probably won't find any.)
2) Never cancel them unless you're really okay with losing all 3. Always "modify" and choose "change experience" if you want a different attraction for one of them.

For the most part, I think MDE is pretty user friendly and intuitive. (Which is to say I didn't have trouble figuring it out with some exploration.)

My upcoming trip will be my first one using the magic bands, so I have no practical experience with the bands themselves.

FP+ questions are answered (and FP+ Priorities listed) in the highly recommended, super-complete, often discussed, gotta love it, not to be missed, must-read, gargantuan juggernaut, growing by leaps and bounds, constantly updated and refreshed by the DISboard's own mesaboy2...

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I swear it was much easier the old way, LOL. It didn't "like" my name which is Sandy and that is why I came on here. So I can use a name that small then? I don't get what is going on. Maybe they are having issues on their end. I will also check out the thread mentioned.

The name simply does not matter.

It is only so that if you have two or more bands of the same color, you can tell
them apart by looking at the (very tiny) name on them.

You can call yourself "Sissy" or "Sis" or "Mom" or "Lucky" or "Minnie" or anything... that is 9 letters or shorter, if you like.

Put whatever you want. DS has put stuff like "dude". I've put stuff like "5K re-do". It changes nothing.

(though I might not have put the hyphen in there, might have just been "redo")

I love using a different princess for each trip. Last year I did Jasmine and this year will be Ariel. I think it's fun to put something other than my name.

not sure why putting your real name scares you. :confused3

i've gotten 3 thus far.
-first one i used "figment"
-second one i used my nickname "Dee"
-third one i used my full name "Deanne"

I still don't understand. You have to use a PIN to charge. You need the fingerscan to use the tickets. Even if you had an 8 character full name (leaving a space in between first and last names for the 9th character) and used that name it's still not giving anyone any helpful info. :)

But put whatever you want within their character guidelines.

My question was innocent. I have never had a Magic Band. I have only used the old card style. I did not know about a pin. Forgive me for asking and not understanding.

Have a great trip!

Thank you for mentioning the very tiny names on them. I never saw them and I thought it was ridiculous. I never looked inside the band for the name, only outside.

I've run out of colors I have so many so I've started putting different names on my, favorite character, pet name, etc. Don't ever hesitate to ask questions, it can be confusing if you are a first timer.

I understand your concern with using your real name. I questioned it my first time too. Especially for my kids. But when I got them in the mail I realized that no once can see the name when you're wearing it and then I did online check-in and had to put in a code for charging to my room and I felt at ease. This year I put Mr. and Mrs. on mine and DH since it is an anniversary trip. Have fun on your trip!
