DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Morning (barely) all. Nice sunny day and need to get some work done outside this afternoon if I can get away from the computer. It was a good weekend. DD and her team ended up in the silver division for the state Bible quiz which was fine with me. She is really a gold league kid (5th in the state in gold league last year) but she doesn't have the team support to get to that level. She took first in the state in silver though by almost doubling the second place person's score. She was happy which is what matters.

All this talk about aging, mortality and daughters growing up needs to come to an end or you I will have to drag out the old avatar so

Congrats to DD! Regarding the kids growing up, most of you guys have plenty of time and hopefully us old guys bringing up the next "phase" with the kids helps you young guns enjoy the time with your young ones even more. As for college and engagements and such, I am just gonna charge ahead and enjoy this next phase as much as possible while knowing I can always come here to gripe about it a bit once in awhile
:rotfl2:

'Morning all...
no, that's not right
G' Afternoon all...

I'd ask where my morning got off to, but being a Monday morning...
I honestly don't care.

Well... good news. Kind of.

DW started talking to me this weekend about a summer trip to the World in 2016.

The bad news... I was hoping to get some park time during DDCC4 when I'm in Orlando in January for a conference. Might not be in the budget with a family trip coming a few months later. Maybe a resort dinner or monorail crawl at least?

I'd say good news.
Permission to plan a family outing is a win.
and since you'll be down there anyway in January, then I'd think you could squeeze in at least a little bit of the DDCC

Either way, it's two more trips down that way then I currently have planed for next year.

Top O the Morning Dads! Hope that many of us are only staring at a 4 day work week :)

As a matter of fact, it is only four days.
Thanks for reminding me.

congrats to the young lady for the hard work.
May she say young long enough for you not to need the old avatar any time soon.

Charging ahead is the right attitude on many levels.
Just as the notion of having to pay off that charge bill when it comes due works on several levels as well.

Either way, this here parenthood thing is one heck of a thrill ride, ani't it?
I'm just not sure whether it would be classified as a roller-coaster, or a drake-ride (or maybe both) :lmao:

Morning guys. Back from the dentist this AM for teeth cleaning. So, I just took a sick day.

At least those are good problems to have. Depends on how bad you want to do both. Anything in the garage to sell?

Yup. 4 day work week this week and off next week.

Morning to you as well. 4 day week heading into a week long vacation for me.

How how long is long vacation? Long enough to go to WDW?

Congrats to dd, and no need to drag out the old avatar. We can go back to bourbon and sports talk.

Those years are going by fast. I now have a teen and a tween. My next phase is HS.

Aye! 4 days it is!

We're hosting dinner at our house. I am looking for a bacon inspired side. I've done bacon green beans the past 2 holidays so if anyone has a legit recipe to share, please send my way!

Well, now it's getting serious. The wife has now taken over the looking at houses in the Orlando area. Retirement is 12-24 months off and the search is on.

Why yes it is. I'm flying to Orlando on Sunday morning and start the drive back on Thursday. I'm planning on getting in a day at EPCOT, either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Now what establishment would one have to visit to purchase this fine piece of fashion:confused3, This would be quite cool for Star Wars Weekends:thumbsup2

I certainly don't want to wish away my life, but I'm not afraid to admit that I'm a tad bit jealous of your position currently. DW and I won't retire until the kiddos are out of college whih is roughly 15 more years. Our plan is to spend the Winter months in the Orlando area and the rest of the year in Pgh.

Cook about a half dozen strips of bacon. Then in that pan cook up about a pound of Brussle Sprouts until they caramelize a bit, about 10 to 12 minutes. I just trow a bit of salt and pepper in. Then put the sprouts in a serving bowl and crumble the bacon on top.

Heat oven to 350... place 1lb bacon on cooking sheet. Place in oven.

While that is cooking, grab a skillet and cook another 1lb bacon on the stove top. When your bacon has reached the desired constancy on the stovetop take off heat then take out the bacon from the oven.

Place the pan cooked bacon on the oven cooked bacon. Take any crispy bacon and crumble and place on top.

Serve warm. :thumbsup2

Busy couple of days. The Brit, another couple, the Pirate Princess and I head to Belize on Thursday. Lot of stuff to pack to get ready and right now we are ahead of the game. Highlight of the trip (hopefully) is to dive with Whale Sharks. Planning and paying started 18 months ago and I can't believe it is finally here. The kid is peeing her pants excited about it.

Made beer can chicken on the grill for dinner tonight. First time in years I did that and man was it good. Added Mesquite wood chunks to add the smoke. Will do that again a couple of more times over the summer.

Say it brother. Me? I am going to enjoy a chuckle or two when the kids of these young pups start driving. Good luck guys, if I can get through it, anyone can. As Dori says, "Just keep swimming."

I was looking at that on the disneystores site. It seemed like something great to use the 28% discount for their anniversary.

Depending on when you get there you could always head on over to the ESPN expo and pick up Dopey Merchandise and NB shoes. People seem to make between 25 and 50% on stuff they buy and then sell on ebay. You could probably cover your family vacation if you bought the right stuff.

Resort diner seems a lot less stressful and much less likely to make people hate you for flipping merch.

I'm jealous. Dw have said I'm not allowed to look at moving until DD is in college, so we are 10 years out.

You can get it at the disneystore.com if you aren't venturing to studios in the near future.

This sounds delicious

That sounds like an amazing trip. Everyone I know that's been to belize really loves it. Seems like there are a lot of really good opportunities to essentially stay right on the reef.

'Morning all...
Our young'en should be headed home from school this evening. That's gonn'a make his momma right happy for a few days. Need to have his car looked over while he's here, so that will make my wallet less happy, but it'll jut have to get over it.

Well, now it's getting serious. The wife has now taken over the looking at houses in the Orlando area. Retirement is 12-24 months off and the search is on.

Yep...
If she's taken over, then this is happening.
Good luck on the search.

Excellent! Enjoy the trip, sir.
Question: flying in, but driving home... interesting plan, but what's the reasoning?
(just a matter of curiosity here)

Retirement?
Well, now let me see. You know, I don't have any idea what that means...
I know what you think it means, sonny. To me, it's just a made up word. A politician's word...
so young fellas like yourself can wear a suit and a tie, and have a job.

Seriously doubt I'll ever see such, but may you plans work out.
Splitting time between a couple of places would certainly be a good thing.
Keep to the code... I mean... plan.
You'll make it through.

Sounds like one heck of an adventure.
Best of luck and bring back some more of those amazing pictures you've been using to make us all jealous.

If you're doing much more than cleaning out a few remaining items from your office and an exit interview, you're doing too much. Enjoy your trip Randall!
