Character Breakfast with only Adults

I am a huge fan of Disneyland, always have been. My favorite character is Mickey, love Winnie the Pooh and friends, Pluto and Dumbo, too. :) My birthday is coming up in mid May and it is a bigger one. I have not been to DL on my birthday for 6 years and in that time have gone through a whole lot including health issues. I would enjoy celebrating at one of my very favorite places (DL) how far I have come and of course thanks to God. Jesus is my greatest joy. I am local as I have shared in other posts and do have an annual pass that I need to get more use out of! I have asked one so far local friend if she'd be interested in joining me. I wouldn't want to pay all that money to go by myself. I also think going in May would be better (crowd wise for breakfast) than when I go back in early December for the Candlelight Processional.

Money is a huge issue, my food preferences are very kid-like and simple. Breakfast, scrambled eggs, hash browns, pancakes, (I don't eat meat). I am thinking Minnie and Friends sounds like out of all of the choices there are the most traditional characters? Also, I do need to take care walking wise and it is handy and so cool that it is inside the park. It also sounds like there is a breakfast choice where Mickey is present? Does he come to Minnie and Friends, lol, I'd hope so being as he is her husband :D If it helps at all for lunch I typically get kids mac and cheese and maybe share some fries with someone, another reason I think breakfast would make more sense and cents, too! Do you think as an adult with no kids I would enjoy this? Would I feel out of place? Also does anyone know what the cancellation policy is? I know it would be smart to book asap.

Thank You! :)

Mickey is *not* at Minnie and Friends (unless something has recently changed). We saw Minnie, Eeyore, Fairy Godmother, Rafiki, Cptn Hook, Tigger, and Chip.

From what you wrote, I don't think you would feel awkward as an adult at a character meal. I know I wouldn't. For the money and the best chance at "classic" characters, the Plaza Inn would probably be your best bet. The prices are a bit more reasonable. The only downside is that you will need to enter the park. But, since you have an AP, that would not be a problem for you, but perhaps it would for your dinner partner. The folks at Disney Industries seem to be limiting the amount of travel and appearances of the characters. My family's favorite character breakfast has always been at Goofy's Kitchen where we would see Goofy (of course) and several other full body costumed characters, but would also see random "face" characters like some of the princesses, or Peter Pan. But the "face" characters now don't come out of the park. You "should" be able to see Mickey at the Plaza Inn, but the good CMs taking meal reservations won't guarantee anything. I think Mickey still makes regular appearances at the PCH Grill at the Paradise Pier Hotel, though.

Here is one of my favorite pics for my twin boys a couple of years ago at Goofy's.

Thank You, Lalasmama. I have to admit to not even knowing who Rafiki is but certainly know the others :)

Thanks to you, too, Just Peachy, great picture of your boys, looks like they had fun. :) I love that you said you wouldn't feel awkward as an adult there, too. What're you doing in mid May? :) Sincerely I appreciate your thoughts and will look into more info. I don't have a man (romantic way) in my life at the moment so I would probably be going with a friend which is fun, too, different way.

I think Minnie and Friends would be a great choice - mainly because that is where I am having my 40th birthday breakfast in April! I like that there is a good variety of characters and classic breakfast buffet. Something for everyone!

Happy almost birthday, albumlady! I wasn't going to share this but I will also turn 40 in May. So it is an actual buffet? For some reason I thought there was a menu of sorts and the food was brought to your table. Buffet is better because easier to choose and as you said something for everyone. Thank you. I hope you have a wonderful celebration!

It is a buffet and I believe that there is a made to order omelet station as well. I love a breakfast buffet - add characters and it is Happy Birthday to me! I will have two of my kids with me but I would totally do this with just adults too.

Look up youtube user underdascreen. They are a couple and they did character breakfast (no kids) and looks like they had a blast. They gave lots of videos if there trips, fun to watch.

Mickey is at the Mickey breakfast at PCH.

Btw, I am going in April for my 38th!

We (my brother, my 8 year old daughter, and myself)will be at Minne's breakfast on Easter morning! I was there at the end of January and had a blast! I saw many tables that were only adults. It was perfectly natural.

We also went last October for my daughter's 8th birthday and they put a birthday clip art on the photo in the package. If you tell them when you make the reservation that it is your bibirthday, they should bring you a cupcake with a candle.

We'll be celebrating my 45th birthday there in October. It's a great place to celebrate!

I am excited now and will try to make this happen. I will definitely share back how it goes.

Albumlady, I do enjoy sometimes going to Hometown Buffet at breakfast but add Disneyland and that is a completely different (and fun) twist. :)

Carrierael77, I will look that up, thank you. Happy almost birthday, to you, too!

Thanks, Lorijohnhill for the b-day cupcake idea. And wow another birthday at Minnie's. :) I wish you a very happy day.

Mickey is only at Surfs Up Breakfast.

I like it there a lot, but from what you say it does sound like Minnie and Friends would work best for you.

I don't have kids and either go alone or with friends. If you don't give the "leave me alone" vibe the characters will be happy to play with adults too.

This is what happened at Surf's Up last year when a Beach Boys song came on and I kind of started moving along to the music. Pluto was just at our table, did the same and noticed what I was doing. :D

I have done about eight character breakfasts (7 on cruise ship and 1 at WDW) and enjoyed each and everyone of them. I never felt out of place or awkward and I've done all these meets alone. I enjoyed meeting and interacting with the characters and if you are a Disney fan I'm sure you will as well. I have never canceled any of these character meets but I'm sure you can asks when you call to inquire/book which I suggest you do early.

I love the Plaza Inn, but we don't go for the food. The character interaction is amazing though.

I just want to let all of you know as an FYI, I called Disney Dining yesterday and thought to ask about prepaid gift cards. I do have several and was told they can be used to pay for the breakfast! I was so happy and that for sure would make this much more possible financially for me. Oh and there is also a 10% discount for Deluxe Annual Passholders, which is what I have. The CM said your credit card is needed to hold the reservation but as long as someone shows up (and, of course, with valid alternate payment) there will be no actual CC charge. So I will be able to use money already spent (gift card) I haven't heard back yet from the first local friend I asked to join me, so hoping she will be able to. Thanks again to all of you for your encouragement, this definitely sounds like it will be fun. :)

Over all of the years that my friends and I have eaten at character meals, only once was there a child with us! Every other time (going way back to 1992) it has been adults only at the table. It may be expected that most people will have kids with them, but a lot of adults just want the buffets, or they want the particular array of food/food items that can be found at any of the restaurants.

Additionally, I think that doing solo character meals is becoming more popular. There was probably a time when no one would ever think to do a character meal by themselves, but I have read a few posts from people on this forum who have done, for example, Goofy's Kitchen solo. I'm sure there are people who have done the other meals solo too.

I do solo character meals all the time at WDW. Usually 2 per trip. No one has ever given me strange looks (I am a 50 y.o. guy) and the characters are always willing to take pictures with me. A group of adults at a character meal are just as welcome as a solo adult or a family with children.

Thanks Sherry! That is awesome you and your friends have done character meals for so long. :)

Chuckers, I think it is awesome that you have fun with going to the meals and just enjoy them.

I just think and maybe because I can be a little shy, plus it would be my birthday, I would want to have at least one friend with me. Almost any other day, I am fine with spending a few hours alone at DL because I do have an annual pass and so my ticket is paid for. I know for someone who does not, it is a whole lot of money to go and also I just have more time right now to go during the week.

I will keep all of you posted and again thank you for all your help. I am excited and will make a reservation soon. I forgot to say this morning the cancellation policy is 24 hours from when your reservation is.

Sorry for the double post. I made a reservation this morning for Minnie and Friends. I told the CM I spoke to that it would be my birthday and he said he would make note of it. Does anyone know if that would mean a bunch of people signing HB to me? I probably wouldn't care for that...but hey it would be all in good cheer. A birthday cupcake sounds more appealing, lol. I am excited about this and have found a friend to accompany me. Jason, the CM told me that if I needed to (as long as there was availability, of course) I could change the time to earlier, I made it for 10:30 because I wasn't sure yet if I (or my friend) would be staying the night before. It is so very welcome to have something fun like this to look forward to. Thank you, all of your, for your encouragement to go and enjoy. I will share about it :)

I don't have any experience with this at DLR, but I celebrated my birthday once at the Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom at WDW for breakfast with Winnie the Pooh and friends! They had the table decorated with Mickey confetti and I got a cupcake and a birthday card that was "signed" by all the Pooh characters. It was really nice! I don't believe there was any singing involved.
