I will be bringing my RV to FW early this June. I have checked the rates but I noticed some of you got an "AP discount". What is that about? Also, if you stay for 7 nights, do you get any break on the rates?

AP Discount is a discount for Annual Pass holders, other discounts to try are the Disney Club www.disneyclub.com , AAA also has some discounts I hear.

Other than Fl residents, Canadians and Military are there any annual pass discounts for us ordinary people that drive over 1000 miles to get to the fort? Just wondering why we are not considered for discounts especially after paying for all that gas. We are dedicated fort lovers and I feel we should be rewarded for all that dedication we have to the fort and WDW.( Hoping someone at the higher level is reading this. I cannot be the only one who is asking for this!)

1) Why should distance make a price-discount difference?
. . . McDonald's doesn't discount for longer drives
. . . Walmart doesn't discount for longer drives
2) Why discount with so many others, who live closer, willing to pay rack-rate?
3) Once could always just move closer.
4) Or, even easier and without moving, join the Army Reserve.
. . . There are lots of Recruiting Sergeants willing to talk to you.

1) AP = Annual Pass (Ticket) or Annual Passholder
2) No discount for more days.
. . . there are retired folks, who stay 6-months, without ANY price reductions.
. . . for 6-months, they do several reservations and just stay on the same site.

Nope, no discounts now on the campsites, period!! Or, discounts for any length of stay!! Just came back from 14 nights - would have been great to have a discount. We are starting to go less often - had been almost 2 years since our last visit - will plan on one more visit in our AP year, then most of our vacations will be elsewhere. The last discount we had was 15% April 2013, and that was from AAA which Disney is no longer affiliated with - unfortunately! :(

Sorry, we 'all' want/need discounts!! A lot of us 'do' come from 600+ miles - it is 'not' a 'cheap' vacation no matter which way you look at it!! :goodvibes :)

1) I guess there is always a Six Flags park, or Cedar Point park, closer for those who are far away from WDW.
2) Of course, one could always write to Ogre (I mean Iger) and ask for price reductions based upon distance.

I agree with you Rusty, but other places have set a precedent. A few years ago, in the recession/depression, Branson was running a "pay for your gas" promo to draw people into the area. You showed your gas receipts at the CVB office and they gave you a check. That sort of provided a discount based on distance traveled.

Fair or unfair, companies have lots of marketing data they use to determine under "served" areas and create promos/discounts accordingly. Apparently, middle America, drive 1000 miles, once every 2 years doesn't fall into that category.

Sorry Rusty Skipper I wasn't only talking about the gas, I also meant the time, planning and the expense that went into our adventure to WDW and the fort as well as vacation time before getting to the fort. We all do love the fort or we wouldn't do it. We do wish we lived closer to the fort but that isn't possible for all of us. Wasn't trying to argue with you just stating the facts.

From a "Disney" perspective, I don't necessarily think they are looking at an "under served" market when they consider discounts and promotions. Ultimately they are a business and they look at their bottom line. If it impacts the bottom line, then you will see that they take action. From the last several times I have been there, They are NOT lacking for customers. AT ALL! So until the price gets too unreasonable, you can expect the costs to stay (or increase). They are family friendly because they know family friendly brings in MORE money. Certainly I think we can all agree that if they were NOT family friendly (and maybe more "Grumpy"), we would go elsewhere.

Perhaps "under served" was the wrong choice of words. "Under performing market" is probably a better choice.

Either way, I'm sure Disney has data that indicates they should be able to extract more $$ from a specific market and creates promos accordingly.

It would be nice if they offered some kind of mileage discount. I also have come across gas discounts for people that drive far for other types of vacations, etc. so WHY NOT Disney???? One thing I've come to learn from being on here is that FW campground and campers gets ripped on discounts. Gotta admit that. Would be nice to have ANY kind of discount, AAA, anything. Disney squeezes you dollar wise to the very brink.

Having said that, I will throw in my cents...

Can't agree RustyScupper with your analogy. It would be nice if they offered some kind of mileage discount. I also have come across gas discounts for people that drive far for other types of vacations, etc. so WHY NOT Disney????

Because those other types of vacations have empty beds going unsold and not producing revenue (or half-filled attractions etc.). So that is a way of giving a little off the edges to get more from the middle (like free dining at Disney).

Sure - why give something away that people are willing to pay full rate for? Disney doesn't care if you or me or anybody in particular comes or not. It's likely that SOMEBODY will come. And yes, we know the campground doesn't get included in a lot of discount offers. That's because because they haven't expanded and added more loops since about 1976. Constrained supply while demand grows yields higher prices. It's simple economics. Just think how expensive the monorail hotels would be (and constantly full and way overpriced) if they were STILL the ONLY hotel hotel rooms on property? Disney added more hotels - they haven't added more campsite loops. Now the baby boomers are retiring, more people are staying for months at a time at the Fort, the camper/RV industry is back in a growth swing, so demand is up.

And if we were talking unfair to anyone else, then why would Florida resident's discounts not be considered unfair.

Because FL and AP holders can come, book a room, and spend money on a shorter interval that those of us who live further away. FL residents might make it a long weekend so it's easier to pull off on short notice. AP holders typically come multiple times a year (averaging a few months in between) so the discount encourages them to come at a specific time (when there is more slack demand). Note that the current AP and FL discounts only are valid through early June. Three months is short-term in respects to a vacation that people commonly plan a year in advance for.

No one hates the loss of any Fort discount more than me but it is what it is. Sorry there's not a better answer.

That's funny. I usually notice these, especially since the software change.

But it is interesting how topical this 14 year old concern still is today.
