The priced-out pity party thread.

I won't lie, I thought we were reasonably well off until I saw the pricing on the British Isles cruise and I realized we could buy a very nice *pre-owned car* for the cost of two adults on that sailing.

So feel free to pull up a chair, have a drink, and join me. Looking at the Cunard prices made me feel a little better, too--the dream is still within reach, just not on DCL.

As a potential first-time cruiser with DCL (we were excitedly waiting until my DD was 3.5, and a time when the grandparents and aunt/uncle could join) I am extremely disappointed with the prices that I have seen for all itineraries thus far. I've closely followed them this year, and the increase of 20-25% over last year is completely unnecessary, and quite frankly, turns me off of sailing with DCL. We make a decent amount of money between my husband and I, however it is the principle of how much you are spending. I understand the commodity of it, the Disney magic, blah blah, but what they are doing at this point is nothing more than price-gouging. I will wait and see what I am quoted tomorrow, but I have a feeling we won't be putting up the $6k for a 7 night caribbean (in MAY, not even peak summer!) like we were looking forward to. Unfortunately, there are people who will blindly pay anything to sail with the mouse, which means that prices will continue to see this insane markup year after year. I only wish I could've taken my family before they got out of control :(

I wouldn't say I'm priced out so much as for that money I'd rather do other stuff. I've done a lot of Disney cruises. I'm not interested in the kind of $$ it takes to do the few really interesting itineraries. Nor am I inclined to spend a whole lot to do ports/ships/shows/dining/activities I've done more than once or twice. Maybe on a special last minute but I think for the money we just see other things we'd like to do more.

I honestly haven't even priced DCL, at least recently. I did a few months ago and quickly realized that the prices are outrageous! We love Disney, but I'll stick to the parks and cruise with another line.
We are going a 4-day Carnival in January just adults. Our girls want to go on a cruise next summer so I'm thinking Princess would be nice. Would absolutely love to do DCL, but I also want more than one vacation a year.

I will join you at the pity party table. I priced out a Princess cruise at half the DCL cost so all is not lost.

I'm a UK history buff (while being Amurrican) and I've only recently conquered a fear of flying, so I've never been to the UK. This kind of itinerary is my DREAM. It looks like I'll end up either on Princess, as you say, or possibly Cunard.

I'm not priced out either, but I like my money to go further. $287 per person per day for 7 people in 3 inside staterooms is crazy....especially as port intensive as this cruise is.

Sounds like we can plan dismeet on Princess which is close to half price of DCL.

I am a Pollyanna...the glad part of these exorbitant pricing schedules is I am fairly confident it will force Disney to offer specials :) kids sail free, or deeply discounted GT pricing...now I just have the waiting game :)

I'm glad I have all the time in the world to wait on what may open up for us to be able to cruise again :)

As a group of 4, anything above $7-8,000 starts to be too much for a 7 day cruise. 12 Day cruise $12,000 is the max in my opinion. That would run about $1000 a day, $250 per person per day. Anything more than that is unreasonable. When I see a cruise for 4 people running $15,000, I wonder how Disney is able to get away with these prices! That's the price of a decent used car right there. Heck, even instate tuition for a year of public college runs about that much. (excluding room & board but still).

My pity party is more because we have college for DD looming on the horizon and until we know where she will end up, I can't justify what they are asking for these cruises. We are also giving up our Disneyland AP's next year for the same reason. The thought of not having either one of those things for a while really bums me out. :worried:

I would have loved to have taken her on one of the overseas cruises for her graduation, but can't swing it at these prices. So I will have to see what the fall cruises look like (fingers still crossed for more sailings from the West Coast) or even worse, do an on-board booking this October and wait for 2017. Sigh....

Where are you seeing outrageous pricing for May caribbean sailings? There are only a few listed on the first page of the opening day pricing thread, and they are all pretty reasonable, very much in line with what is offered for this year from what I can see.

I think anything about 5k for a 7 night cruise is too much. You still have to pay for tips, drinks, excursions it all adds up. I guess this is why I may never do a European cruise. I think I could do a land vacation to Europe for about half the price of the cruise.

I'll join in. We haven't sailed DCL yet, but are doing the May 30 Baltic very soon. I was hoping I could book something for next summer, assuming that we'd love the cruise in May. For these prices, I can do a whole lot more for my family of 6 somewhere else. I'll be interested to see tomorrow what the rate will be for our comparable cruise. As it was, we signed up fairly late in the game for the May cruise (only a few months ago) so I'm sure the original price was a bit better.

We wouldn't sail during the summer anyway, but we priced out the EBTA as we had to cancel this years. I didn't like the itinerary as much but would have paid a similar price. It's so much more expensive which means no EBTA for us. It's okay though. We are doing Bermuda on NCL instead. :)

I can totally agree with this! We were waiting until our youngest was 3. Now I'm wondering if we should have went this summer or even last instead if WDW. Sigh. :drinking:

After looking at today's prices, I went and looked at what I can book at WDW with my DVC points for 2016. We are heading to Aulani next week in a 2 bedroom and I still have enough points in 2016 and points to borrow from 2017 to book a 2 bedroom at any WDW DVC property except the GF. As much as I love the cruises, I think a WDW trip is more likely in our future.

We too, my DW and I are part of the party also. We have done 35 DCL cruises and will be doing the EB Transatlantic on May 15th. For just 2 adults in an inside with the extras would be $12,000 and we have not even thought about excursions which would add a considerable amount to the total. Also checked the EB Transatlantic and it was up about 30% of what we paid for this years. I understand that the British Isles is a great itinerary but for me I am totally priced out and would never pay these outrageous prices but I know their are many who will so Disney will not miss me.

I got this off of a comment in the opening day thread, and it is just for 2 adults (no kids) and a cat 7A- We would want at least a cat 5C (bigger room with veranda) so that all three rooms could have a connecting veranda (great for when DD goes to bed or if she is still taking naps at that point.) I would rather have an open veranda if I'm going to be on a 7 night cruise, so I'm figuring it is going to be around $6k:
