I ordered my cake today - easy peasy with all the detail in the first post - thank you, lurkyloo!
Sent an email to the Contemporary and had an answer within half an hour. Then called to actually order a mini cake. We are still 5 weeks out, but I will definitely post a photo when we get back.

Yay! I'm so glad you had an easy experience. Can't wait to see what you get!

Attempting to post this picture from Oct 2012
This cake was from our Ohana breakfast in Oct 2012. Also done by Pat and cost was $30.

Thanks for posting pics and info!

I am looking to order a cake for our first night at CRT. We have three girls and I want it to be as princessy as possible. The three mini cakes are all Minnie/Mickey themed. So how do I ask for something different or is that even possible? Also is a mini cake big enough for three girls to share? Thanks so much

So excited, contacted the Contemporary about a custom cake for our trip and heard back from Chef Brian! I played it cool though, :cool2:. I want to do a Frozen themed cake from when Anna and Elsa were kids, they have to get approval for an image so glad I contacted them early. Hope one of the images gets approved and excited to see what they will come up with! :goodvibes

Yes, just tell them you're interested in working with the pastry chef to create a unique design. I think one minicake is enough for three girls to share, especially if it's a 2-tier mini cake.

I don't think you can, I emailed the Contemporary cake email and Chef Brian was the one who responded, but I think it is just luck.

I sent a picture because I wanted a specific image and I knew they didn't have it. I wanted to order a similar cake last year but waited too long. Normally you can just tell them what you want. :thumbsup2

I need ideas. My creativity is gone. I need to order a birthday cake for my 12 year old son. We all love The Nightmare Before Christmas, and it will be a holidays trip, so I'm thinking something Sandy Claws, or I don't know. Any suggestions?

Has anyone had a cake at Flying Fish??? Do I call the restaurant, the cake hotline or Boardwalk Bakery?? I'd like something a bit fancier than a podium cake, but not fondant. Thinking about a 6 or 8 inch cake with a Mickey face on it -- thks

Where will you be ordering the cake? Because if you don't have a specific idea in mind, the pastry chefs usually do great things when you just give them a theme to run with. So you don't necessarily have to know exactly what you want. And Nightmare Before Christmas always seems to be a winner!

Call BoardWalk Inn and ask to be transferred to Private Dining. You can do something custom or just order their standard Mickey head cake. Info is in Post #2 of this thread under BoardWalk Inn.

Okay I just emailed the contemporary about a splash mountain cake for my b/g twins birthday on March 15th. We are staying at BLT but will be at HS that day.( no cakes in HS right?) If I've read the posts correctly if I get the cake delivered to my room they can do it while we are in the park but we will pay a room service charge. I think it is also possible to pick the cake up directly at the Contemporary specifically at the Wave? Will that avoid the extra charges?
I went back and forth about ordering the cake from the boardwalk bakery since it looks like they recently did a Splash Mountain cake. But I picked the contemporary hoping Chef Brian emails me back. I'm sure he can do a great cake. After looking at all the flavors I think the fozzie bear cake with chocolate cake peanut butter buttercream ( not mouse ) and chocolate ganache is what I want. Our family is all about chocolate and we love peanut butter too. I'm hoping they can do the cake without fondant covering the cake since none of us like fondant. I'm not sure whether to do a one or two tiered cake. It will probably be one tier since I'm trying to stay around $125 or less. Thanks for all the posts and ideas.

lurkyloo, I'm thinking either having it delivered to our resort (CBR) or at Rose & Crown (my son's fave). I'm not sure yet, and the location is flexible for us.

How far in advance can I order a cake? We have a little less than 3 months until our trip, I'd rather order sooner rather than later because I'll probably forget otherwise.
They recommend 72 hours up to 3 weeks in advance. I think 3 months out is to soon, but you can call and ask.

I just got an email back from Donald at the Contemporary. Does that mean he will be doing the cake? Or is it possible I could still get Brian? Any advice about Donald? Also they asked for my budget. The one tier Splash mountain cake on this site was $80 about a month ago from boardwalk bakery and there's no price on the two tiered one post back in December. I'd like to spend no more than $100 but could go up to $125. But $80 would be great. If you say your budget is $125 do they keep going until you hit $125 or is it possible to get a cake for $80 or $90?

DH and myself along with the kids will be in WDW from March 27- April 1st for a vaca. Our anniversary is on March 27th. We will be celebrating 9 years together. My question is, how would i go about ordering a cake for DH and I to have during our anniversary dinner at Fulton's Crab House? Just wondering what number should i call to get the ball rolling?? Thanks in advance!!

Nothing other than basic buttercream cakes.

Yes and yes!

When you get a fondant cake, it has buttercream underneath. You just peel off the fondant. But if the design you want doesn't require fondant, then, yeah, I say go allllll buttercream!

We had a terrific experience at our first Princess Race weekend.

I posted the drawings that I sent a few pages back, and the pastry chef was spot on. The cakes were delicious too. Crazy expensive at $80 each, but worth it, I think.

Thanks so much for sharing how these turned out. They look great!

It will be somewhat easier to order the cake for Rose & Crown, and Epcot is doing great cakes now!

If you only want to spend $80, tell them you want to spend $80. They can modify the design. I know both Chef Donald and Chef Brian answer emails at the Contemporary, but I don't think that determines who'll make the cake. Maybe @CakeManBri will come along and let us know. :)

You need to call Fulton's directly to see what your options are. And if you don't like those, you can try working with a local cake baker like It's Tasty Too or Party Flavors to get a cake made and delivered. You'd just need to meet them somewhere to take delivery of the cake.

For my birthday, we did an IllumiNations party at UK Pubside. As part of the planning, we got to do a menu tasting in the kitchen at Epcot, and I got to meet the pastry chef. He surprised us with peanut butter chocolate cupcakes at the tasting, and they were awesome, so I knew I was in good hands for my birthday cake.

Here's the inspiration I sent him, with the request that he create some kind of light-up cake topper out of similar flowers:

HaywardBirthdayCakeIdea.png

And here's how the cake turned out...

Created By: Epcot Pastry Team

Size: 6-inch cake

Price: $95 for cake + $50 for light-up fondant topper

Flavors: Red velvet with cream cheese frosting (not filling)

Because of the flash, it's hard to see how light-uppy the cake was. It looked fantastic, but next time I'd save the 50 bucks and just have them put regular fondant flowers on top. The cake also tasted AMAZING! Best red velvet cake I've had at Disney since Chef Brian made our anniversary cake at the Contemporary! The bummer was, we checked out of our hotel the next morning at 4am and forgot the cake in our haste. I was devastated. I called the resort a few times to see if they'd found it, but I'm sure it went straight into Housekeeping's trash. :(
